@@bmac1205 If so, then he shouldn't have even made a reference to Christine on a song that is a Stevie Nicks song. That makes no sense. Because not only is Rhiannon Stevie Nicks as the lead singer, but Christine is not even a writer on this song. He needs to do a song that Christine os both a writer and lead singer on, There are plenty to choose from and they were big hits too.

I was so sad to hear that Christine McVie had died. She was one of the GREAT British musicians, honoured by our country for her services to British song writing and music. From her early blues days with Chicken Shack in the 60's, she joined Fleetwood Mac around the time of Peter Green's departure, married bassist John McVie and helped the Mac make some great underrated albums before they joined forces with Buckingham Nicks and conquered the world. The channel certainly has to delve into the wonders of this great band, whether it's the original band with Peter Green, or the transitional period post Peter, or the huge band they became with Lindsey and Stevie. There is so much great music to listen to. Thank you, Christine, for all the great songs you wrote and performed.

Fleetwood Mac is such a great band, it is surprising you haven't had the opportunity to do more of their songs. For a Christine highlight I think I would have to recommend "Songbird." It's probably the song everyone is doing as a tribute, but for a reason. She wrote it (in like half an hour) , pretty much performs it solo, and it's just one of those songs that seems like it was sent from the heavens.

Christine Perfect - as she was in the late 60s - fronted a blues band called Chicken Shack who had a big hit in the UK with a cover of the Etta James number I'd Rather Go Blind. It would be a fitting tribute to someone who will be loved long after she's gone.

    • @Jessica_Roth

It should be pointed out that while "Christine Perfect" SOUNDS like it's a stage name, it's not. It's her birth name. Her dad was Cyril Perfect.
"Perfect" seems an unlikely surname, so perhaps someone changed it in the past. But it wasn't Chrissie.

Ok, now you MUST hear Christine! Long before Buckingham/Nicks joined, there was Christine! She joined Mac in 70, Buckingham/Nicks in 75. I'd love for you, and all who don't know the entire Mac catalogue, to go back to the early days with Peter Green/Jeremy Spencer/Danny Kirwan and follow the transformation of the band from a straight blues powerhouse to pop phenom of their later careers. I don't know of another band who has gone through more changes than The Mac! The albums "Future Games", "Bare Trees", "Penguin", "Mystery to Me", and "Heroes are Hard to Find" are all Mac albums that feature Christine heavily and are pre B/N. Try this beauty from the "Mystery to Me" album. It's pure Christine, from the somber keys intro to Christine's moaning plea "You gotta believe me....." to Mick's snare crash and they're off to the races with a straight rocker for the next 4 minutes! She gave so much more to The Mac sound than most realize! ua-cam.com/video/zs70De66D5w/v-deo.html

I support you guys, but Christine McVie is one of those unsung, somewhat hidden major figures in music. I suggest doing a little bit of research on her and Fleetwood Mac itself in order to fully appreciate what we lost last week. She was writing songs for Fleetwood Mac going back to 1971 with Future Games. Fleetwood Mac has been a songwriting collective since then - multiple songwriters writing their own songs and contributing them to the group. "Come a Little Bit Closer", "Homeward Bound", "Spare Me A Little Of Your Love" - just some of her great songs to come before the Buckingham Nicks era that started in 1975. All those early 70s Fleetwood Mac records are worth hearing.
This is a beloved figure that never really gets discussed as such - this is why all you're seeing all this widespread emotion for a seemingly unknown musician to much of the younger generation. In a band full of chaos, she was a rock. And she had no ego to speak of.
Newer more famous songs have already been mentioned, so I won't bother - except that "Songbird" is a song you must hear before you die. And, she wrote some of the band's biggest hits.
I know you said it's not a tribute video. The timing was a little unfortunate. I suggest doing a tribute - and having Lex there too, so she's aware of their role in music history.

  • @xlerb_again_to_music7908

Brilliant song! ..at the time, this was rated as very good - one of the best! Yet there were 101 other bands working at this level (so, in a way, ordinary / more of the same). Rumours was a killer album and had lots of airplay (I've a copy I bought then, somewhere in a case with 20 other LPs). Rumours had no filler, great songs one after the other.
And thank you Nick & Lex for all the effort & enthusiasm making these YT reactions! :)

    Nick/Lex ,
Love the channel and your voyage of discovery.
in that vein I would suggest that you investigate the first version of Fleetwood Mac, led by Peter Green, which was a very different proposition from the later soft rock band. In particular it would be worth you listening to Oh Well Pts 1&2 ,Green Manilishi, Man of the World as well as Black Magic Woman and Need your love so bad . I think you'd enjoy Peter Green's guitar -he succeeded Eric Clapton in John Mayall's Bluesbreakers.
    Best regards
    Keith

If you want to hear Lindsey Buckingham featured, please listen to Fleetwood Mac/Lindsey Buckingham- I'm So Afraid Live 1982 on YT. This song is personal for Lindsey, as he suffered from depression. There is something about this version that puts it above most of the others on YT. Lindsey on lead vocals with Christine McVie backing vocal. The guitar solo is outstanding, you can feel the bass and the drums deep down hammering away, and the way Lindsey moves on stage is mesmerizing. My 2nd favorite live version is during The Dance concert years later in 1997. These live versions are much better than the studio version.

Hi Nick. If you're interested in listening to Christine from the early 70's with Fleetwood Mac there is the Mac album "Future Games" recorded in 1972. This album is considered by many old-time Mac fans as their best album ever...even better than the Nicks/Buckingham era mega-hits. The album is considered the beginning of her rise in influence of the shaping of the bands future sound. Two songs, "Sands of Time" and "Woman of a Thousand Years" are two of the best Fleetwood Mac songs of all time...Christine sings backuo on both songs. So maybe give those these two songs a listen as an introduction to Christine's early Fleetwood Mac days.

Nick, I'm a big fan of you and Lex, but I feel you missed the mark here. Christine's greatness was her songwriting (as well as vocals and keyboards). She was always graciously in the background letting the more "popular" Stevie take the front. Meanwhile, she was writing about 1/2 of the songs that appeared on their greatest hits album. I feel the tribute would have been more fitting if you used one of her songs. I would suggest "Songbird" from Rumours or the lessor known "Spare Me a Little of Your Love" from the Bare Trees album. No disrespect - love you guys.

I know you are new to this music, but in all honesty, if you are going to do a tribute to Christine, you really should listen to the music she wrote.
Might I suggest you go back in time to before Stevie Nicks & Lindsey Buckingham joined the band & listen to Spare Me A Little Of Your Love from the Bare Trees album or Dissatisfied from Penguin. Christine was a great songwriter & to tribute her by listening to Stevie is just wrong.

Don't Stop would have been more appropriate. or Songbird.

A year ago, they didn't know Steely Dan, and _now_ they are HUGE fans. They have missed out on MANY bands and genres of music. They are still catching up on bands WE know, so give them a chance to discover them.
YOU can always suggest the best examples of McVie's music, and with hopes he and Lexi will become new fans.

Wait, a tribute to Christine with Stevie singing??? Come on. Why didn't you do a song of hers? Songbird. Everywhere, Over My Head, Hold Me, You Make Loving Fun, You Got A Hold On Me. those all have her on lead vocals please do one (Song bird is the best)

    There are 3 era's of Fleetwood Mac that you'll have to explore Nick & Lexi :) . . .
The 3rd can be very special live. A fave of mine is when Stevie Nicks & Lindsey Buckingham (on acoustic) was belting out "Big Love" on Late Night w/David Letterman (which seems to be taken down :/). Lindsey is an amazing finger picker.
For Christine McVie, you'll have to share with Lexi "Over My Head". She has a beautiful voice on that one. But I'm sure all the Mac fans will request some deeper cuts of her work, and deservedly so.
    - Rest in Peace Christine 😥
Edit: Nick, be sure to watch Rick Beato's: *Christine McVie: Losing Fleetwood Mac's Songbird* :).
