    - Manual gearbox scored similar 6 l / 100 km consumption minimum, but whereas the DSG went a little higher in the mix with more accelerations, MHD stayed a little lower, so seems to save you a little fuel
    - Lane assist indeed also induced some false-positives when you kept the steering wheel very straight on very straight motorways. Then the car thought you wouldnt have your hands on the steering wheel anymore. Pretty annoying. Also when using serpentine roads, it is more useful to de-activate the feature. But that's easy: Right side of the steering wheel, there is a hotkey, press it, and directly access the assistance systems in the virtual cockpit. It is reseted after every ignition though.
    - The rattling sounds we at first noticed at slow speeds were, as we could clear out later, induced by the car cleaning crew who used an anti-fat detergent on the window frames, causing the rubber to dry out and rub against the windows. They needed to be re-greased ;-) We therefore editing this criticism out of the conclusion now since it was gone after the service was done.

      Is there any way to keep lane-assist off? Any trim level without lane-assist? I REALLY dislike this annoyance/safety-feature ;)

    • @iain8837
      @iain8837 10 місяців тому

      @@stavros_gr9105 Hi, 1.5 150ps and DSG is a poor combo, very hesitant when pulling away from junction or roundabout, dangerously slow to engage the clutch. Always changes to the next gear at 1500rpm or less, you NEVER get any power from the engine, press the accel harder in 3rd doing 20kph and it changes to 4th at 1200rpm, then the little power you had is now worse, press the accel nearly all the way down, then it jumps down 2 gears and screams it's head off! It was my wifes car, she drove it in sport mode as it then drove "normal", she would always take my Focus 120ps Diesel auto instead of the Kamiq as you press the accel and the car actually goes. What else...the air con controls in the touch screen, the worst piece of software programming in the history of the earth! The random emergency brakes when the barrier on the corner is detected by the sensor. The most unsupportive seats I've every had, no side support, like sitting on a park bench. The temperature control nob, try turning it fast, the temp doesn't change, it skips as the nob is so cheap, if you want full heat, you need to turn it slowly slowly slowly. When you take your foot of the accel, will it coast/roll, will it stay in gear and engine brake? Who knows!!! It rolled one day, brakes the next day, completely random, end up riding the brakes constantly on a slight downhill, then on a flat road before a roundabout, take your foot off to coast, and it would engine brake! The delay in everything, pull the windscreen wiper spray, nothing, count a few seconds, then it sprays, put the mirror to fold position, nothing for a few seconds, then it folds. Try and rest your arms on the door arm rest, you can't, they are so far away from the driver, try the center arm rest, same thing. I think for the over 70's who only drive on a Sunday, it would be a good car if bought cheap. I have more...but said enough.

    What a great presentation Thomas and the Kamiq will definitely be our next car... we're running 2 Skodas right now, but after the 3 month experience of lockdown etc, my wife and I realise that we only need one car, so it'll be a trade-in job soon for a Kamiq. With the greatest of respect, I have to pull you up on your driving sir, there are, or could be, moments when you possibly will have no control on the steering...It actually hurts me to see you crossing your arms and hands when negotiating bends and corners. I passed my test 62 years ago and was taught the 'ten to two' or 'quarter to three' position for holding the wheel and to 'pass the steering wheel' from hand to hand when turning..... It's not too late to change this habit Thomas, it might save us both if I happen to be coming round the bend from the opposite direction. Once again thanks for this great video crit.

    A nice thing to know about the ACC is that it addapts to the driving mode. So in sport it will keep less distance to the car infront and accelerate faster. Same thing for normal mode vs ecomode.

    • @jessiemac7146
      @jessiemac7146 4 роки тому

      @Elco de Bruijn - Normally 'the distance' to the car in front is adjusted by the driver using one of the cruise control buttons - you are actually adjusting the 'time difference' to the car in front, so that the distance will automatically increase at higher speeds! I didn't know that the drive mode changed 'the distance' - I must check that out next time I drive my friend's Golf R DSG fitted with DCC! Yes, the drive mode can change the throttle response of the ACC - in Comfort it accelerates smoothly, in Sport it accelerates fast!

    A nice little car in the Golf class (really a Polo). I think the front design is very similar to the Citroën Cactus that came on the market as early as 2014. The concept is also not dissimilar, although the Cactus is a more exciting and interesting car (more querqs and features). What speaks for Skoda Kamiq, however, is VAG's traditional build quality and durability. As always a solid review on your part Thomas.

    Great photography - greetings to Holger. Kamiq seems like a more compact Scala with a bit more ground clearance and an airier cabin - nice. Liked the Thomas blue colour but don't like the excessive bulging rear valence. For the price: quality interior, and good equipment including BLIS, but no HUD! Great detail and research as always, team. Loved the driving part - great driving. Many thanks.

      It's not about the size, it's about how it "bites" (that's what she said). 1.0 TSI is actually quite peppy and this car is actually pretty small. As a base engine it's actually pretty decent.

    Hi, I watch a lot of your reviews, and they are obviously very professional and thorough, so I enjoy them very much. However, I'd like to offer some constructive criticism, if I may:
    1 - I get the general impression that you focus a lot on performance / racing in your reviews, and perhaps not too much on comfort. You mention "price / performance ratio" but not the "price / comfort" or "price / convenience" ratio. While this is great for car enthusiasts who care about "driving fun", you may not reach audiences who think of a car as just a means of transportation from A to B. This is especially true for cars like this one - the Skoda Kamiq, which is not meant for sports / racing. Imagine that I'm just a soccer Dad / Mom. I don't care about the sportiness of the car. I just want to know if it is comfortable for me and my family and if it is reliable.
    2 - I've noticed that you mention a lot of technical details like "MQB platform" and compare the car to its previous generations. While this is great for more technical audiences who are constantly following the auto industry, you are going to lose the other audiences who just went to Google and typed "Skoda Kamiq review" without knowing its history or technical specifications. I don't want to know about past generations or which platform / chassis the car uses. I only care about what that means to me as a user of the car. Even though I am an engineer myself, I don't really care about "MQB platform" ... but does that mean that my butt does not hurt on long drives ? Now THAT is important :)
    3 - You provide a lot of facts, which can be great but can also be a bit overwhelming to the less technical viewers. It would be nice if you could add a simplified section about - "Who is this car really for ?" "Based on the materials used, is it going to last the customer 5 years or 10 years or 100,000 km ?" More practical questions.
    I'm sure that most of your followers are huge auto enthusiasts, and I'm sure that your content is perfect for them, but if you could also provide a more dummied down version that focuses a bit more on the other aspects of driving like comfort, convenience, practicality, rather than simply "sportiness" and "stiffness of the suspension" and "0 - 100 time" ... you would reach a much broader audience and get more subscribers :)
    Of course, if the car is a sports car like a Golf GTI, that would be different and you could focus on sportiness, but I don't think a Skoda Kamiq is really about sportiness :)
    That said, I love the fact that you not only review the cars but also drive them. It is important to show how the car drives. But just more simplified and focused on comfort would be more to my taste :)
    Thanks for reading !

    A nice car, as was to be expected.
    Unfortunately, when I checked the prices I felt tkaen for a fool.
    In Austria, the base price is roughly 2,000€ more than a Seat Arona, that's ok as I prefer the Skoda and it's also larger.
    BUT when I compare the middle modens (Ambition) with Germany, there is a hughe difference:
    It costs 1,000€ more here, has no full LED lights included, not even alloy wheels or electric windows in the rear!
    Corrida red also costs a third more than in Germany.
    If you adjust for the 1% VAT difference and the fact that there is a 5% NoVa tax in austria, there's still a markup of over 1.500€. And that's only the basic differences I have checked, I'm sure there are others. Why is Skoda Austria charging so much more than in Germany? I guess they're spoiled by their success here.

    It may be a decent car but ... if you want to have things like dual zone climate control, alloy wheels or cruise control (not to mention heated seats) you have to choose higher trims and combined with 1.0 TSI 115hp engine - this thing gets expensive. Is it a better buy than Ford Focus 1.0EB Titanium? Or Kia Ceed 1.4 Turbo in the mid trim? (or Ceed 1.0 in high trim) Not to mention Kia Sportage 1.6 GDI in mid-high trim with at least as good if not better equipment? I don't think so.
    It's also not really handsome. It looks like a boxy hatchback also the front end is just butt ugly.

      Specs just out now in the UK. The cost is horrendous. Everything is options and it is £2k extra for DSG! If you want an SE with DSG specced to competitors equivalent model you are looking at and extra £5k making it a £26+k+ car in the UK. It will have to be good for that or heavily discounted by the brokers!
