I live 5 minutes from there …..the corp of engineers had that completely drained and dry about 2 weeks ago or so ….they was doing inspections of the inside and the gate ….ive got some really good pics of it dried up …you can walk across that too …it’s about waist deep .!!!!
Very interesting! Thanks for sharing! I wonder how long it’ll take for fish to move back into the spillway.. won’t be until spring time I’m guessing? Thanks for watching!
@@618Fishing …your welcome …maybe we will meet on day around there …dad started me fishing there at that lake when i was 5 and im 53 now …know that lake like the back of my hand…..every year around duck season , they pump water from the main lake into the sub impoundments on the north end …So the spillway will dry up almost ….they keep the gates open to maintain some water flow into big muddy river system .!!!…
Sad to see the state of that spillway. We had an issue on my local river in England earlier this year, idiots at the environment agency diverted the flow of my local River Frays because one resident who was new to the area panicked over rising water during a wet spell, the river always goes up but rarely floods - Ended up with a dry river bed and a huge fish kill of some magnificent Chub and Bream. Regarding Carp, they are an obsession in England where many will camp out for a week in the hope of catching a big member of the King Carp family, whilst those you were catching are invasives it is interesting to see the different attitude across the pond to what are a powerful and entertaining species - I follow the Fish with Carl channel and he has had a number of trips catching some massive Commons and Mirrors where he hooks up with US friends who are also in to them. Whilst Barbel and Tench are my favourite species back home, I do a bit of Carp fishing and the fight is always entertaining - I have also developed a passion for Thailand trips where the Siamese Carp are bigger and even stronger, if you want a good scrap then I can't recommend it highly enough. My latest trip last month saw a 95lb fish hit the bank, as for the Arapaima, they are a different beast from another planet! (176lb fish gave me the fight of my life)
Actually, there are some here that do fish for carp. The common carp, buffalo. The invasive carp is the asian carp. They are taking over. We are required to kill every one we catch. For myself, id rather catch a 10 pound common carp than a trophy bass. Those carp fight hard!
So they diverted a whole river they had been working for a hundred years or more because someone new to the area told them they were scared of the water? Yeah, right. Things that never happened once ever for $100, Alex.
@@MrContemplation Well thanks man. You found me at one of the channels I watch faithfully. Funny but I don't watch a lot of music channels for my entertainment. Maybe I'll see you again on another channel someday. Take care!
I live in Missouri now but I grew up near that dam. Caught a 35lb flathead catfish on a yellow grub down there when I was 16 back in 1993 lol. Love that place!
When doing some research on silver carp a while back, I recall them talking about developing a type of poison to release into the water that would only affect the silver and bighead carp by getting caught in their complex gill system. Not sure if they ever developed it to use, but that could be what killed all those carp.
Stinks to see all those dead fish. I’m glad you did catch some living fish though! Thanks for sharing Nick have a great weekend and cya next adventure!
Always excited to see this spillway in the thumbnails because from what I remember it always coughs up bangers. I was really sad to see that like a year or so ago, the place was basically overrun by silver carp. I haven't watched the full video yet so we'll have to see what happens.
Man that takes “flogging a dead horse” to another level 😉 I totally get it though. Finding a major fish kill at your favourite spot is awful. Been there a couple of times, sadly
Well nick I just sat down on my couch and took my boots off from a long day at work and I lay my head down and pop I get a notification that 618 posted a video 🤣🤣🤣 perfect timing, buddy
Man if u ever in dalla or if im ever closer to u i woudl love to have a fishing trip with u idc if its a youtube video or not u genuinely seem like good people and a great person
If your goal is a 100lb+ catfish, I think you will need some stouter tackle. Those sub-20 carp were about all your spinning rig could handle. Good video and good luck.
Hey Nick! Maybe you could do what you did last year and call the department of natural resources and maybe have the water tested to see what is causing all those dead fish
Wow hooking a dead fish in the mouth is definitely something i can honestly say I've ever done. Don't think I've ever hooked one at all. Crazy video man
Idk Nick, I think after catching the zombie carp I would’ve went home and started boarding up my house and stocking up on dry goods. Lol! I know it wasn’t the best day fishing but at least you were fishing and caught a few. Tight Lines
I’d also be interested in meeting sometime to fish together. I think we live near each other and I love fishing discharges, spillways, etc. in the winter!
Whatever happened to the spillway you used to fish years ago it emptied into a river which looked like it was next to farmland or marshland. You kept catching water snakes there and you used to do good but I havent seen you back there in a long time.
Spillway dead zones are pretty common. The water level goes up and the fish group up then the oxygen level goes down. It’s an unfortunate situation caused by our man made barriers in our waterway.
Don't know where that spillway is. But I was reading the MDC and some other groups were testing carp eradication methods at creve coeur lake this summer including poison and looked a lot like that on bank.
Dude, that was the magic spillway. You caught a huge channel cat, a big spoonbill, at least one giant buffalo, and all kinds of other fish there. What happened to that place?!
That's weird. I saw a fish kill at our local lake's spillway last week. Not nearly as bad as the one at your place. That bad cold snap, maybe? Thanks for the vid, Nick!

they shouldn't be allowed to do that, you cant burn down a forest just to inspect a ranger station

I think what I like best about you,Nick is your optimism. You are not easily deterred!!!
Time for a new net. That one is cursed. Great video Nick!
Man hooking that dead fish in the mouth is kind of creepy. Maybe it's a Zombie carp! lol
You took the words right out of my mouth, including the zombie part.
Damnit I just looked at the first comment below the video and blew the suprise 😢😂
I haven't watched the video yet just checking a couple comments. WHAT 🤣
Just waiting for it swim off...
Nick ends up being patient zero. 😂

First spillway is my go to, I live just 5 min from there! Love the vids keep it up
winter time is always tough man youre a beast for still going whether its great or not
Always coming back for this videos. He's just so straight to the point, just fishing, no BS.
One of the biggest reasons I subscribed back when. His cinematic shots are also really well done. Helps that I also absolutely love fishing.
That's the same reason I watch him. He don't add a bunch of bs talking trying to make longer videos..he just "takes you fishing with him"
@@RiverDocs you also have a great channel.

Where at in Missouri, I fish the Mississippi and Missouri River all the time
I quit my job to watch your videos full time!
😂😂
Nick always fishes in these little unremarkable looking spots that end up being awesome fishing
Best part of Thursdays!
Great video. Thanks for my weekly fix.
Always bring the fish to the net. Don’t try and scoop it up. Two fails in one video. 😂
Love your videos man!! I live in Illinois and love seeing these big fish come out of places i regularly fish
Great video Nick keep up the great work!
The way fishing went for me this year ,I would call that day an epic win! 17 lb. fish is always good.
Love spillways! Central Ohio offers some nice options - Kitty’s, walleye, saugeye, drum. Thx for sharing!
Both are great spots to fish with floats. Have had great success drifting minnows there in the past
Love every video. Thanks as always for sharing these videos with us.
I really needed a good video to unwind to, I was not disappointed. ✌️
We appreciate the effort you put into your content! It's never easy to fish at this time of year!
Great video, bro! As we all know, fishing is hit or miss. Keep the content coming!

Another fantastic video. Kudos to being one great fisherman.
Great bait for that 100lb monster this summer!!! 👍👍
Stinks to see all those dead fish. I’m glad you did catch some living fish though! Thanks for sharing Nick have a great weekend and cya next adventure!
Thanks for the epic video, and tight lines!
Some days you’re the dog, some days you’re the fire hydrant…
Great video as always! 👍🏻👍🏻
Hey! Nick Never Seen Nothing Like That Zombie Carp! 🎏
Catching that dead carp gave me a chuckle. I somehow hooked a zombie catfish in the mouth once. Glad I'm not the only one!
My heart broke for you when you lost those fish. Awesome video!
Awesome adventure looks like you had a great time
great stuff Nick thanks

Am I the only one that gets excited when the count down music starts to play?
Man that takes “flogging a dead horse” to another level 😉 I totally get it though. Finding a major fish kill at your favourite spot is awful. Been there a couple of times, sadly
Time to find other spots or at the top of the spillway where all the big fish are
Another great video Nick

Good that you mixed up the music a little bit!!! 😁
"lets go ahead and keep this big head carp for live bait" translates to "im chuckin this in the woods" lol
great vlog brother

You are the sole reason why I do any kind of bait fishing lol
Hey Nick! Maybe you could do what you did last year and call the department of natural resources and maybe have the water tested to see what is causing all those dead fish
You should try Illinois river for big cats
How do you find these good spots. I cant find anything

GRACIAS POR DOBLAR EL VIDEO AL ESPAÑOL .
SALUDOS DESDE CILOMBIA.
Awesome.
I live just a few minutes from that spot.
So at one point in this trip all the fish were dead except for one and you killed it. Good job! 😂
Try using the net with the lip upwards. Hooks in behind the fish.
Rough site. Handled it perfect. Nice vid Nick.
#618fishing
That silver carp was quick man!
To bad you didn't have something with you to check the water to see what could be killing all those 🐟🐠
Great video as always
C you later Buddy 🦈🦈🦈🎣🎣🎣
Great video man way to keep grinding even though the weather is shity
What do you think killed all those fish?
Sometimes those dead fish put up the biggest fights. Surprised you even got it to shore. 💯
I want Nick's job!!
What catching the same fish over
I live right down the road and keep hoping to meet you there
What line do you use? Ive had a few big ones get away from me. I dont what to go massive, but any pointers would help. Thanks in advance
Hey buddy nice big head.. was the 1st spot where you caught the paddle bill fish
Yes. This is where he caught that little spoonbill about a year or so ago
Nick is documenting ecological fish genocide by accident while still being entertaining. Big respect.
Yesss! Thursday!!
Bad day on the lake/river/bank is better than a good day at work.
if you use polarized lenses on your drone you can see fish in any swim
Nice carp how about some trout fishing or salmon fishing

Whatever happened to the spillway you used to fish years ago it emptied into a river which looked like it was next to farmland or marshland. You kept catching water snakes there and you used to do good but I havent seen you back there in a long time.
This would have been a great video around Halloween! That would have freaked me out catching a dead fish.
They did maintenance on that lock a couple weeks ago.
There was no water moving through.
Very little water.
Memancing yang sangat menyenangkan
Never seen anyone catch a dead fish before!!!! Nice fish bro...
Is it 618 time no way what's up nick
Spillway dead zones are pretty common. The water level goes up and the fish group up then the oxygen level goes down. It’s an unfortunate situation caused by our man made barriers in our waterway.
Nick there is more glory in catching a big fish on a light rig than catching a small fish on a big rig.
How are you liking that TRX 😮💨😮💨
Don't know where that spillway is. But I was reading the MDC and some other groups were testing carp eradication methods at creve coeur lake this summer including poison and looked a lot like that on bank.
Just subscribed ! Have watched many other of your stuff and if you can get dead fish to bite you got me interested ha ha
Haven’t seen this spillway in a while. Also spillway of death flashbacks.
Any idea what caused the mass die off?
Dude, that was the magic spillway. You caught a huge channel cat, a big spoonbill, at least one giant buffalo, and all kinds of other fish there. What happened to that place?!
Army Corp of Engineers drained it to work on the gates a few weeks ago. They had both spillways closed for a little over a month.
Is there any good spillways in stl region
That's weird. I saw a fish kill at our local lake's spillway last week. Not nearly as bad as the one at your place. That bad cold snap, maybe? Thanks for the vid, Nick!
Someone else commented saying that they drained the spillway to inspect the gates! Thanks for watching!
Best fishing channel
Are you high
I am not high on vape I’m 12 years old. Why the hell would I have a vape?
Go to Alabama or Mississippi and do some noodleing, you will catch your record catfish. Merry Christmas
Is every location 2 hours away?
what can you tell us about the high fish kill in that one spillway, nick.
I remember you bought the water test. you could have take it with you wherever you go.
Hi, do you have to report that first spot to Fish and Game ?
All those carp would be good fertilizer for someone's garden(maybe) if not contaminated.
I am quite surprised that eagles, buzzards and other scavengers have not cleaned up the Silver Carp corpses.
Cold snaps will kill off shad and the carp or the core engineers draining it
LOL just found you and become a sub great Vid , looks like most of my trips lol
The last big head carp got lucky! Disappointment for you, life and death for him lol!
Better those carps than nothing ;-)
