One of the creators of the IDW line, Evan Stanley, she used to create her own Sonic fan comic series, Ghosts of Future Past I think it was called? (Wasn’t a A Christmas Carol knock off at all) It was so good imo, and it’s a big reason why I loved reading the IDW line now a days (and yes, pirating at the moment, but I didn’t realize you could buy IDW online (my state’s stores stopped selling the Sonic series at all), so I think I’m going to make room in my budget next month… plus maybe some extra for what I’ve missed 😉)
As a HUGE Sonaze fan, this scene is an absolute gem. Not only was it wholesome from start to finish. But I love how this basically proves that Sonic and Blaze's personality and dynamic meshes extremely well with one another.

I just always assumed she would never make an attempt to confess simply because she believes her royal position in her dimension would make relationships impossible

On sonic rush they hold on to each other’s hands as much as they can before being ripped apart back to their own dimensions. On rush adventure their goodbye is pretty telling as well (at least on Blaze’s side). I can see why so many believe the head cannon that she likes him.

To me, she comes across as the "creepy stalker", fangirl type who sonic would do well to avoid as much as possible. I started getting into Sonic recently and I’ve pretty much fallen in love with the character dynamics. Blaze has become one of my favorite Sonic characters and seeing her and Sonic together as casual friends is very heartwarming. I really hope we see Blaze again in a new Sonic game where she can interact with Sonic more (and we get to play as her!!)

One of the details I love is the difference in the two's boost aura's. Blaze is far more direct and precise with where she goes, a simple "point a, b, then c." Where Sonic's is a whirlwind that's always having more points of contact than Blaze, showing he moves far more to cover the same distance. He's more of a "point a, b, c, d" type of moving. When climbing the tower, the both go up around it, but afterwards Blaze basically makes a straightshot to he landing wher Sonic bounces from point to point 3-4 times on his way up.
Not to start a ship war or anything, but it's odd how this one little comic section did something for me with Sonic and Blaze that 30 years of extended media couldn't do for Sonic and Amy; make their relationship feel natural and not forced. But with Sonic and Blaze, it's been a really nice slow burn, where there are only minor interactions, but they are always meaningful. The blushing when she holds his hand here and in SatBK, how she goes from being annoyed just by hearing his name to respecting him and seeking his guidance, the opposite personalities but matching abilities and traits, it's like Sonic Team accidentally made the perfect pairing but can't use it because they're too busy ruining what little character Amy has. Again, not to try and promote one over the other, just find it weird that the side character who's from another dimension and is almost never around has such better written chemistry than the character Sonic spends most of his time with and was literally designed to be his 'girlfriend'.
I mean I think the comics have done a way better job of the interactions between him and Amy then the games ever did. That obsessive stalker has become a much more responsible and mature character, and the two actually interact with good chemistry now. I don't really have a prefered ship, (I just don't care), but I think Amy's been better than she ever has.
I agree with OP. Big Sonaze fan, never liked Amy because she was so aggressive with her affection when Sonic clearly didn't want it. If we continue getting Frontiers Amy in future games and Sonic changes his mind and dates Amy, I'd be okay with it. Still, there's just something with his dynamic with Blaze that works so much better for me.
@@sararatliff7707 It's the "opposites attract" thing you see in media so much. Blaze is formal, dutiful and responsible, Sonic is casual, carefree and adventurous. Their personalities bounce off each other naturally because of how different they are. Also, Blaze is more obviously a peer to Sonic, she can literally keep up with him. It's why Amy never really works as a love interest when you play up the "fangirl" portrayal of her affections, she's never really a peer to Sonic. Sega's trying to develop Amy into more than the "girlfriend" character, and Frontiers is a great step forward, but they still need to actually define what Amy brings to the table so she can be an actual peer to Sonic the way Knuckles and Tails are.
I enjoyed this more than I thought I would tbh. I’m a Sonaze fan but I don’t often like comic dubs due to me thinking the voice acting can be subpar some times but I think this was pretty decent.
It’s always interesting to notice that blaze can keep up with Sonic’s speed knowing that he can always have a travel partner on the ground besides tails on the in the Air
(Wonder if she is afraid of heights? Never imagined she was) I love this mini comic the best one so far. I especially love a sight from Sonic Unleashed, like it's great to see this world again. One of the best things about this is how it really does look like and "unofficial" date. The views he like, the memories she loves, the view, their talk, how lazily casual yet seemingly show off of a move he's pulling off on the clock, and the miniature hand hold. Never gotten into being Sonaze but this comic was a nice informative. Thank you for sharing.

if we go back to the Sonic Underground series, Sonic is royal along with Sonia and Manic while Blaze is royal in her dimension, that might be another connection between them
I really like that you and Blaze's VA (unless you're Blaze's VA, in which case good work) tried to make their voicelines sound a lot like in the rush games, with the emphasis on certain words and... *way* they say stuff. I don't really know how to describe it, just... good work, is what i'm saying.

From enemies, to rivals, to loyal friends that would save the others’ world at beck and call. Quite a dynamic these two. I’d noticed that while Shadow is a dark reflection of Sonic, Blaze is more of a parallel that’s a little different. He’s laid back and doesn’t stay and one place, she takes her job seriously with incredible focus and is much more stoic. Albeit, she isn’t as dark as Shadow, her anger can be as hot as her flames.

This comic looks gorgeous.
Not to start a ship war or anything, but it's odd how this one little comic section did something for me with Sonic and Blaze that 30 years of extended media couldn't do for Sonic and Amy; make their relationship feel natural and not forced.
But with Sonic and Blaze, it's been a really nice slow burn, where there are only minor interactions, but they are always meaningful. The blushing when she holds his hand here and in SatBK, how she goes from being annoyed just by hearing his name to respecting him and seeking his guidance, the opposite personalities but matching abilities and traits, it's like Sonic Team accidentally made the perfect pairing but can't use it because they're too busy ruining what little character Amy has.
Again, not to try and promote one over the other, just find it weird that the side character who's from another dimension and is almost never around has such better written chemistry than the character Sonic spends most of his time with and was literally designed to be his 'girlfriend'.
I mean I think the comics have done a way better job of the interactions between him and Amy then the games ever did. That obsessive stalker has become a much more responsible and mature character, and the two actually interact with good chemistry now. I don't really have a prefered ship, (I just don't care), but I think Amy's been better than she ever has.
I agree with OP. Big Sonaze fan, never liked Amy because she was so aggressive with her affection when Sonic clearly didn't want it. If we continue getting Frontiers Amy in future games and Sonic changes his mind and dates Amy, I'd be okay with it. Still, there's just something with his dynamic with Blaze that works so much better for me.
@@sararatliff7707 It's the "opposites attract" thing you see in media so much. Blaze is formal, dutiful and responsible, Sonic is casual, carefree and adventurous. Their personalities bounce off each other naturally because of how different they are.
Also, Blaze is more obviously a peer to Sonic, she can literally keep up with him. It's why Amy never really works as a love interest when you play up the "fangirl" portrayal of her affections, she's never really a peer to Sonic.
Sega's trying to develop Amy into more than the "girlfriend" character, and Frontiers is a great step forward, but they still need to actually define what Amy brings to the table so she can be an actual peer to Sonic the way Knuckles and Tails are.

I enjoyed this more than I thought I would tbh. I’m a Sonaze fan but I don’t often like comic dubs due to me thinking the voice acting can be subpar some times but I think this was pretty decent.
I've heard of speed dating but this in on a whole other level. Heh. Just what you'd expect from sonic. Taking his other world counterpart on a date.

(Wonder if she is afraid of heights? Never imagined she was) I love this mini comic the best one so far. I especially love a sight from Sonic Unleashed, like it's great to see this world again. One of the best things about this is how it really does look like and "unofficial" date. The views he like, the memories she loves, the view, their talk, how lazily casual yet seemingly show off of a move he's pulling off on the clock, and the miniature hand hold. Never gotten into being Sonaze but this comic was a nice informative. Thank you for sharing.

if we go back to the Sonic Underground series, Sonic is royal along with Sonia and Manic while Blaze is royal in her dimension, that might be another connection between them

I really like that you and Blaze's VA (unless you're Blaze's VA, in which case good work) tried to make their voicelines sound a lot like in the rush games, with the emphasis on certain words and... *way* they say stuff. I don't really know how to describe it, just... good work, is what i'm saying.

I agree, Silver and Blaze work leagues better platonically. There have never been any hints in the game canon that they like each other, and that’s perfectly fine.

From enemies, to rivals, to loyal friends that would save the others’ world at beck and call. Quite a dynamic these two. I’d noticed that while Shadow is a dark reflection of Sonic, Blaze is more of a parallel that’s a little different. He’s laid back and doesn’t stay and one place, she takes her job seriously with incredible focus and is much more stoic. Albeit, she isn’t as dark as Shadow, her anger can be as hot as her flames.
