I decided to use Amazon photos just as a “vault” or storage option since we have been prime members for years. I don’t use it for organizing etc. I have a 2TB external hard drive that I copy photos to as well. I have been considering thought paying for Mylio because they not only offer great organizing but also I love their photo enhancing tools.

Hi Sammie - Thanks so much for commenting. The prime benefit is fantastic for sure.
Mylio is a powerful program, and I just recommend that people choose it if they know they will use the program on a weekly basis. If you let months go by, the syncing can get confusing and its hard to remember what you were doing. It worked well for me when I could work on my personal photos each week, but I couldn't keep up!
      Cheers!

Wow! That is pricey. For just my genealogy images I'd pay $2300! I do understand this is a one-time fee, but with the docs and images I haven't even scanned in yet, I'd be hitting the next tier within a year. The collection I have now doesn't include any living family. I'd have to give this some serious thought.
This site does look nice and seems it would work well for any serious genealogist, but there are no guarantees they will be around in 50 years. What happens if they don't have enough subscribers to keep up with the rising costs to maintain the "lifetime + 100 years". I'll research a bit more and see if it makes sense for me. Awesome video though and explained very well. Thank you!

Hi Janie - Thank you so much for watching and posting your thoughts. I really appreciate it!
A good percentage of the purchase price is invested in the Forever Guarantee Fund. The founder who is passionate about family photo, memory and history preservation views Forever as an institution much like some of the universities which have been around centuries. Here's a link to the guarantee: www.forever.com/guarantee
A 500GB account is a lot of storage. . . I'm curious how large your file sizes are and if you are saving files as TIFFs versus JPGs.
I'd love to talk with you if you have time. I interview consumers to learn more about photo saving habits, tech skills and more. Let me know if you'd be interested to chat and I can answer more questions about Forever if you like. Here's a link to schedule a call if you like:

My concern with Forever is that I have never heard of the company before. How are they doing financially? Are they still going to be here 6 years down the road? 10 years? What happens to my photos if the company gets sold, or bought up by Amazon or Google?

Great questions… a portion of storage purchases go into the Forever Guarantee Fund… they have been around nearly 10 years. Here’s some additional information: www.forever.com/ambassador/pixologieinc/guarantee
I teach my clients to also save their photos on the computer… I believe people should have a copy in their house as well as in the cloud… I will also post some financial information for the company… a bit later.
Thank you so much for watching!
      Cheers!

Hello, I really liked your presentation. Thank you so much. I liked the idea of Forever, however I have a big doubt when it comes to establishing the size with which each of the photos should be uploaded to the platform. If I did it to the real size of my jpg, of the order of 30Mb (eg 6240x4050px) each one would be very expensive. I have to say that I keep a copy on my PC of all my files with Imatch Phototools, apart from the regular backups I make. The question I ask you as an expert that you are is: What size would you recommend to upload to FOREVER, to maintain a balance between quality and cost?
Sorry for the translation. I am writing to you from Spain.
Thank you very much in advance.

Hi there - Those are very large files indeed. We recommend storing photos at between 1 and 4 MB in general. This allows for a 8 x 10 print in about all cases. I'm hoping this helps! I'd love to be a resource but only speak English! Let me know if you have any other questions!
      Cheers!

How many photos can you upload into the free trial with the 2GB of storage?

    • @Pixologie
      @Pixologie  10 місяців тому +1

Hi Dolores - It can range between 300 and 500 photos depending upon how large they are. Sometimes, with older digital photos, we can get over 500 as well. I hope this helps! Cheers! Mollie

I would like to have seen a full disclosure stating you are lead ambassador for Forever Photo Storage and recommend this product with a possible vested interest. If you are not being paid by either company (amazon or Forever) you should probably state that in the beginning of your video..

Hi David - I appreciate your taking the time to comment here and apologize this wasn't more clear. I have updated the Description and Top Pinned Comment. I do mention in the video at 2:09 or so that we are ambassadors but I did not mention that we receive a commission when our links are used. Our broader mission is to help educate people on how to save their photos versus simply selling storage.
      Cheers!

Amazon Photos is just storage and is not a Family Website for discussing family photos and adding metadata.
