I think of this time as the Golden Elton age. He wrote and recorded so much great music! There aren’t any bad cuts. Imo, he truly was at his best. Thanks, bj, for the request, and thanks to Harri for your reaction.
There are no fillers on this album...."Have Mercy on the Criminal", "Blues for Baby and Me" and "Elderberry Wine" are others on this album that are so strong. Elton couldn't miss in this period.
Absolutely one of my favorite albums of all time! This one, Goodbye Yellow Brick Road and Madman Across the Water, helped save my life from 1973 through 1974. What would teens do without their music that speaks directly to their angsty little souls? Although another Elton John album has serious memories from all the times I cried along with it - Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboys - when I was in my early 30s. I lived in a tiny village on the west side of Kodiak Island. (That's Alaska, for all of you who do not live in my corner of the world, lol!)
Elderberry Wine is a great song. Probably my most listened-to Elton album. Love everything on it but I don’t need to hear Crocodile Rock for another 25 years.
One of my favorite Elton John songs . I saw him do this live in Sydney Australia back in the early 80's. It would have been a hit if it was released as a single.
Another great album as all of Elton’s early albums were. Daniele and Crocodile Tock were the big hits on the album which I loved or liked every single track!
The song Daniel and crocodile Rock were the only two singles off this album and I never understood that because there were so many good songs on this album. I still don't know why half the album wasn't released as a single. Peace!
Not a single; just a deep cut from this classic album "Don't Shoot Me, I'm Only The Piano Player.". The name of the album has a fun story; it comes from a meeting between Elton and , of all people, Groucho Marx. When they encountered each other, Groucho did his usual shooting from the hip humor quipping to Elton, "Your name is backwards; it should be John Elton", to which Elton immediately fired back, "Don't shoot me, I'm only the piano player!". Elton immediately realized this would be a great name for the album, and, the rest, as they say, is history! To me, this may be one of the most classic of all Elton John albums, and one of the first ones that come to mind when I think of Elton John.
This wasn't a single Harri. Elton was just a hook-making machine in the early to mid-70s, so he usually had at least 2 or 3 "could have been" singles on each album of this era. "Hercules" and "Eldeberry Wine" are in a similar vein, and are relatively forgotten along with this upbeat paen to a teacher. I'm sure most men had a crush on at least one teacher from their school years.
The Don't Shoot Me album was the first album I ever got. It was a gift for my 5th birthday. I have worn out many copies, but still have that original album. 51 years later, that album is still my favorite. React to the whole thing. It is amazing!
Another of those albums from the '70s that you could play the whole album from start to finish and it would evolve and you'd develop with each listen. (That's what you said!) The next song, Elderberry Wine is also catchy! Doesn't get enough love these days.
Nice musical choices brother. A great hidden Gem is 'Chlorine and Wine' by Baroness - it's even better when you watch it with the clip on youtube, which is of them in the studio recording the song. It's amazing. Its a heavy style song, but think Queen mixed with Metallica and possibly Pink Floyd. I hope you do a show on this song, it's pretty amazing for what it is.
PS-look at the album cover. . .it's a spoof on a movie. And to the right, you see the second movie billing, "Marx Brothers Go West", a hint on the story I just shared.
So you mean Billy Joel has something of Elton in his playing because Billy came after. And, yes. Billy has said that Elton influenced him but Elton has said that Billy’s a better piano player than he is.
@@tullfan2560Elton was classically trained which is why there’s so much of that in his songs as well. Both of them play many genres and styles but my point really was that they both admire each other’s talent which is one of the reasons they toured together over a period of 15 years or so. Billy wrote his own lyrics, sure. Bernie is still writing Elton’s lyrics. Next album will be dropping around September.
4yw5 Aquarius dong by Engelbert was just the appetizer. Here Engelbert simgs the same song with all his guests in one 0f the episodes of his show ua-cam.com/video/SWmK5S8Umv8/v-deo.htmlsi=Clv7Te8cu1bzRX0r
The backing vocals by drummer Nigel Olsson, bassist Dee Murray, and guitarist Davey Johnstone are fantastic in this song! They've always stood out for me!
Another outstanding submission and performance by Elton John. Well done B.J. and Harri.
Great song ❤❤❤❤❤❤💃💃💃💃💃💃💃

For sure!!
Great song…great album!
Great album..Elton at his best
I just love early Elton John. Great choice and review. Thanks Harri and DJBilodeau🌺✌️
Wow, I hadn't heard this one in years and I still love it. Thank you Harri and DJ.
One of Elton's best albums. Check out Blues For Baby And Me from this LP.
Love that song!
Agreed - and Blues For Baby And Me is one of my faves from it.

One of, if not my most favorite songs
It was worthy of being a single, but wasn't. Another under-the-radar gem from this album was "Elderberry Wine"
Elderberry Wine is a great song. Probably my most listened-to Elton album. Love everything on it but I don’t need to hear Crocodile Rock for another 25 years.

One of my favorite Elton John songs. It reminds me of how I felt about my favorite high school English teacher back in the 60's!
Yes, I agree.
Just a one word suggestion Harri "Ticking" !
I forgot about Ticking….powerful song! Thanks for the reminder
Great song and the album is a masterpiece
One of my favorite albums ever! There's a lot of good songs on this album.
Great tunes on this LP. "Have Mercy on the Criminal"...Mercy me!
The absolute bomb!
Another great album as all of Elton’s early albums were. Daniele and Crocodile Tock were the big hits on the album which I loved or liked every single track!

And that piano!
The album is a killer!
one of the great tunes

This is his 2nd consecutive #1 album.
Great reaction Harri! Always love watching your reaction programs; this one was particularly enjoyable!
I wore this album out playing it as a kid. Another catchy chorus on this album was in the ‘I want be a Teenage Idol song!
Great one! I wore this album out! ❤️✌️🤟🥁

And then ABBA came along and surpassed the catchiness with When I Kissed the Teacher.
DOING SOME SONGS OFF OF ( DON'T SHOOT ME ) HUH HARRI ??? 😊NIIIICCCCE!👍DEEP TRACK ON THIS ALBUM WAS ( HAVE MERCY ON THE CRIMINAL )

Love this. Would love for you to react to Tina Turner & David Bowie - “Tonight”

Listen to high flying bird of this album
in this songs Elton have something of Billy joel in my opinion , good song i think its my first time that i hear it but im not sure
So you mean Billy Joel has something of Elton in his playing because Billy came after. And, yes. Billy has said that Elton influenced him but Elton has said that Billy’s a better piano player than he is.
@@Scooterboi60 Yes, Billy can play all sorts of styles including classical. Billy also writes all his own songs.
