Amazing how Robert Johnson was able to play with an element of percussion, bass, rythm, and lead, simultaneous in his playing making it sound like more than one person is playing, way ahead of his time
Wow! Thank you! I’ve been playing slide for a year and listen to everyone from Justin johnson to Robert johnson to yourself jimmy page, all kinds of players but I love the acoustic rustic sound of your guitar! Great playing! Thank you!
I am really impressed with your playing and your knowledge of Robert Johnson songs! I've only seen one other person with similar traits. She is a woman named Rory Block. A walking encyclopedia of the blues! A very good player...as you are sir! Very impressed!
Johnson was the greatest, it's amazing how he learned to play like that a very short amount of time and everyone else has taken it all from him. It's almost like there are 2 people playing his songs at the same time
@@Nicoskiwy there's no way, that has to be just BS. But I dont know... maybe he did. If he did that's freaky because all rock and roll was basically inspired by this stuff and it all evolved from Robert Johnson, but to be honest I think it was just made up stories because back then all blues was thought of as "devils music"
@@Nicoskiwy then this really good player comes along, who was probably just really talented and creative, so they said he "sold his soul" cause he was so good (just my theory)
I went to the exact crossroad Robert went to at 11:58 pm.It was a rainy night with thunder and lightning.I had my guitar strapped to my backAt Exactly midnight a clasp of thunder sounded at the same time as a long streak of lightning which lit up the area for about 3 seconds. At that time I was looking straight ahead and I saw a tall thin figure standing about 30 feet in front of me.Another streak of lightning came and I saw the figures long slender fingers. The figure began to walk towards me..Well I almost spoiled myself.I turned and ran back towards my car.I heard a screaming howl and it sent shivers up my spine..I drove away and I will never return to that place again.
Preaching blues is one of my favorite songs to play. Its just so funky for a delta blues song. Definitely gonna try it out in G. Please make more videos!
You mentioned he's tuned up. But actually the pitch of the tapes he recorded on was sped up to make it more "exciting" sounding a popular recording engineer technique of the time. Which translates to going up a half step or full step to match the recordings.
Thanks for sharing your music with us Pete, i and others i am sure would love it if you could start a tutorial of this Robert Johnson album on playing all these songs in open G
I too love open g tuning and hate having to keep retuning or changing guitars. So I've tried to do most of my stuff in open g and use a capo. By the way, what a lovely little national guitar you have, what model is it?
I like your style. It IS a real pain continually tuning back and forth G and natural. And its brilliant how you have worked back from the idea " well he wouldn't have bothered re-tuning". But when you get to " hellhound on my tail" you have gone too far. Which, ironically, is very appropriate, as the whole song is really going a bit too far. One guy i was trying to jam it with , stopped me after that bendy intro and said " this way lies madness", which, ironically is exactly what happened to RJ who was consumed by his own myth in the end.
Peter Towers love your Robert Leroy Johnson,Blind Willie McTell notoriously 1 1/2 steps high and fast! R J COULD WELL BE SAME!I'd be honored if your visit my website at Barbara Salisbury 122 vids UA-cam,blues on !Chris Young

Learning to play this style of blues is an art. Robert Johnson was an incredible artist. Fine guitar picking sir

We don't care. It sounded brilliant.

Great vibe, the resonator sounds simply authentic!
It sounds authentic as opposed to a fake

think hellhound would be in your G minor. really enjoy your presentation and the way you run through the catalogue, many thanks!
thank you. you are probably the first one correcting the mistakes (i dont know how to confirm). but thanks!
Refreshing to see some one tackle RJ with LESS reverence
yeah man those people who deeply respect RJ are so annoying...
@@hepcat3 almost as annoying as those that don't practice reverence.
@@hepcat3 what a stupid comment stupid is as stupid does I guess.
When did reverence become a bad thing u fucktards!!!
Well stated. Just playin' to be playin'.

Or buy a second guitar ;) !!

you play good
i love the resonator too
Very educational. Thank you for the video.
Brilliant improvisation.
I'm thinking that the old-time recordings ( method ) were faster making the guitar and voice sound unusually higher in pitch..??
All your comments Pete just show the respect you deserve Thankyou
think hellhound might be open Gminor...thank you for your offering here!
Joe Shea I like playing it in open Dminor....was playing skip James and decided to have a go at hell hound and it worked beautifully.
Awesome sound, what guage strings are you using?
Nice work ... is your slide a tone dome ?
Wow that is an amazing tip thank you. I'm subscribing .
Very well done! Thanks, mate!

masterful ! and i know his music well. thanks
OK, I dont agree with bending backwards to fit things in open G nor with your appraisal of the second compliation, but this was interesting!
What string gauge and brand do you prefer in open G on you guitar in this video. APPRECIATE
super. thank you
i really enjoyed this
"the other ones weren't so good" wrong. but you killed it other than that. great video.
Let me guess... Legba tuned your geetar on a quiet road junction, way back in the day. Am I correct?

Great playing, what slide are you using?
It’s a Corona beer bottle neck. Oh, it’s a piece of metal pipe, $243 on Amazon, ignore me I haven’t slept since Joseph Stalin became president.
One day I'll be this good. Well maybe close!

You fkn smooth bassa!
Amazing
Sounds great to me man
What tunning
Complexed stuff
behind the window meanwhile there is someone giving signs and flashing ,it looks like a devil with the hands up.
I've become convinced by those who say the recordings are sped up, so they are off tune from what RJ actually played.
The belt tension would vary from recording to record playing.
Nice work sir
This is great, hard to see where the fingers go though. Noodling about here & ready for the devil to make a trade!
Well done sir.
DaDaDaDan aw you occultist you
Does anyone know the model of this national??
That's not a National.
snakehips81 what is it???
Might be a Harmony or something. Possibly not even a real resonator inside ?
snakehips81 I appreciate it buddy! Love your videos by the way! I've seen your cover of dust my broom 20 times! Lol cheers

Any particular reason you're not singing?
Randy Zeitman any particular reason that would be necessary for a video like this?
