Jobeky Drum Triggers Review (Side Mounted/Center Mounted/Kick Drum)

  • I've been playing a converted acoustic drumset using Jobeky Drum triggers for quite awhile now, this is my review. I like them overall, they are incredibly cheap at around $30-40 each. You can choose to get side mounted triggers or center mounted versions. They are very sensitive. I don't like that the output jack is 8th inch, but Jobeky sells an air vent plug that goes from eighth inch into quarter inch, so that solves that problem. They all work as soon as you plug them into the drum module, but you'll want to spend awhile fine tuning them so you get the best trigger result. It also depends on the mesh heads you buy. Overall I like these triggers. I didn't get them to work 100% as well as a regular Roland pad, but darn near close. I will continue to use them for the foreseeable future.
    (disclaimer: the tom triggers and kick trigger were given to me to keep from Jobeky)
    (If you buy through though these links, it helps the channel as I get a small commission through Amazon)

    A SOLID solution to holding those triggers in place, on the bracket, would be to use a Nylock nut instead of the wing nut. That thing will NEVER back out because of the nylon inside the nut. you wouldn't need a lock washer, just a washer and that. Just a thought.

    Awesome review Justin, I’ve had the the 4 bar center mount snare trigger from jobeky on my AtoE for a month now and am impressed (though still working out the trigger settings). What pad settings did you have the best results with? I’m working with a Td9, but there may be some crossover there from your module. Totally understand if you don’t remember off hand. I’m just now seeing your review 5 years after the fact 😂

    Justin is right about the a to e conversion. I like my td20 but the conversion kit I just finished feels soooo much better to play. The difference in feel of the 20" bass compared to an 8" mesh pad is very noticeable.
    If you have the means and are somewhat handy I would try it.

    Just ordered one for my snare drum. Once you add the cord adapter and shipping, one will cost about a hundred dollars sent to the US. So won't be doing my whole kit with these for a while. But internal centered for snare drum is a must.

    Hi Justin,
    I bought a set from Jobeky last Christmas, it was brilliant but the snare wasn't triggering rim shots. I contacted them and they got me to send the snare back so they could fix it, once it returned it still wasn't working. I told them to refund the money for the snare and I purchased one from Roland, also they took ages to respond to my emails so I'm glad they where quick to respond to you. Also my kit was rushed one of the logo badges on the toms is screwed in the wrong place, your kit looks awesome I'm glad you made the switch.

    You mention that they use a mini jack 3.5mm into the internal trigger rather than full size 6.35mm jack. You say you think this is a negative feature. However for me this is THE major positive feature of these Jobeky triggers because I can feed the small jack though the drum airvent to plug into the trigger. I don't want to drill an extra hole on the shell and I want to leave my bottom heads in place. I have been put off buying other brands of internal triggers with 6.35mm jack input because you then have to mess about making your own special cables that will fit through the vent. I see on the Jobeky website that they have a short cable with 3.5mm jack one side and female 5.35 connector on the other . You attach the connector to one of the external lugs and then plug your standard jack cable from the dum module into this as you would an external trigger unit.

    I’m a die hard Roland user. But like a million other drummers, I’m leaning more towards an acoustic electric kit. I was wondering if it was worth selling my Roland kit to purchase a Jobeky kit. It would be great if you could review an entire Jobeky custom setup.

    Dude, you Dont have to excuse youself.
    Great video!!
    I think that to exemplify the point better , putting some over images while testing, would help better identify where the trigger is in each drum.
    Also, you started testing the relation between response of the module and trigger position, and it ended up being a video of you Jamming.

    Hi Justin! Loving the new video! I've decided to not to keep the pads and convert my Starclassic into an edrum, I have a 2box module, now the decision: 1) buy a set of 2ply mesh and the 2box external side triggers or 2) get these nice Jobeky side one for toms and center for snare and bassdrum togheter with 2ply mesh? thanks!!

    • @65Drums
      @65Drums  7 років тому

      Hard decision, I don't know much about the 2box side triggers or how much they cost. But It might be best to get them because they are the same manufacturer as your module

      they cost roughly the same from DrumTec www.drum-tec.com/2box-trigit-dual-acoustic-trigger-set. 2box should be piezo/piezo so fully compatible with jobeky's.... it's an hard call :) From your experience you prefer built internal triggers or side external ones?

    Question for you man. I'm a drummer of 20 years now. Though I haven't played on an acoustic set in years because I was living in NYC for a while. I'm getting ready to purchase a new home but it's a townhouse, so... I'm screwed on getting my acoustic kit. I'm a very minimal kit guy. 3-4 piece with a crash ride and MAYBE another crash ride. Every edrum kit I see is ugly and they all come with like 5-6 piece. Do you suggest I convert an acoustic set? Or go with something like the ATV drums. Cost is of course a factor.

  • @ast6474

    I'm honestly kind of impressed by these Jobeky triggers. I have one of those Pearl forum series kit in my flat and I've been thinking on converting it just like your kit (congratulations by the way, it looks awesome). I think I want something very similar to what you have but like you, I keep looking at the price to quality ratio because I hate overpaying for stuff. I've decided to buy a TD30 module but I wanted to ask you, if you were to start a new set after all the reviews you've made what mesh heads would you go for? (on the quality range, is there anything you like besides Roland) single ply or 2 ply for toms and snare?. Do you think these Jobeky triggers are far superior to the Rolands 10 and 30 triggers?. Do you recommend one of those expensive "over enginered" under the drumhead centered triggers for the snare? I know you prefer roland cymbals over Alesis but how about the new Alesis cymbals that come in the Alesis Pro Strike? wouldn't the TD30 improve the way they feel?. Thank you for uploading all this reviews, your channel is top quality input.

    • @65Drums
      @65Drums  7 років тому +1

      1. Mesh heads, I'd go for Hart Dynamics or Jobeky
      2. Jobeky Triggers ARE better than the roland side mounted triggers
      3. I'm guessing you're speaking of R-Drums? Yes they are the best triggers out there. Just very expensive... because they are the best. They aren't really over-enginered, they have multiple braces to distribute the force of impact more. Helps with trigger accuracy. It's all about your price range.
      4. The new alesis cymbals are MUCH better (from what I've heard) than the old ones. Haven't played them yet though
      Thanks for the questions and the kind comment :)

    Can´t you just fit the 8th inch cable side from the outside in? instead as you said in the video that you can´t fit the quarter-inch part? :) and the cable lenght isn´t that because of just that reason. that some drums have different location for the holes?

    • @65Drums
      @65Drums  6 років тому

      It's because the air vents are too small on my drumset.

    • @65Drums
      @65Drums  6 років тому

      +Garbom oh I see what you mean, The reason I can’t do that, is because the 8th inch part is what plugs into the trigger, the quarter inch part plugs into the cable I have to run to the module.

    • @Garbom
      @Garbom 6 років тому +2

      yeah but if you take the 8th inch. stick it through the hole from the outside. or is that 8th inch part also to big to fit through the hole?
      I mean then you would be able to attach the 8th inch to the trigger inside the drum and then the quarter inch is on the outside? :)

  • @mitcholla

    you could just get a bunch of adpators at the module that go from 1/4 male to 1/8 female, thus gaining the benefits of skinny, more easily hidden cable. plus cheaper.

    I got triggers and cymbals from Jobeky today. On my center mounted snare trigger, the little thing on the piezo (idk if I spelled that right) came off, so my dual triggering won't work. It works when I touch it back on, but it won't stay, and tape didn't work. Any suggestions?

  • @DJFalkoHannover

    Too bad about the air vent position on the kickdrum. On the flootom I would simply cut off one leg to the correct (short) size and then try go get a spare one off ebay if i come across it.

    I apologize in advance but I have many questions because I am planning on replacing all of my drums triggers with Jobeky.
    1) Were you able to get the head position issue worked out? I also have the td-30
    2) were you using a kick drum head from Jobeky? my pintech head is super bouncy and I am wanting a more realistic feel
    3) Were you given specific tension requirements? My snare had a habit of losing tension which would break my pintech trigger. I was told to keep my tension at pretty high (the exact number escapes me at the moment) and eventually purchased rimshot locks.
    I am not trying to bash Pintech, they are great people and really helpful but I have had a tough time being able to play my kit with their triggers. their visualites are pretty amazing though.

      1. not clear on what you mean
      2. all they heads are from Jobeky. I'm not a big fan of the kick head for reasons I'll go over in my upcoming review
      3. There are no tension requirements. Just don't keep it super loose.

      thank you for the reply,
      1. I was referring to your statement on positional sensing.
      2. I look forward to your video on the kick head. This is a major point of frustration when I practice on my ekit compare to my acoustic.
      3. My most recent snare is better but I had a snare that would lose tension really easy in the middle of a song and damage the trigger. it was one of the e-snares made from a piccolo snare shell.
      this is my kit

    • @danielmitchell5615

      The lug locks did help, what was interesting is how quickly their foam broke down which greatly impacted trigger response.
      the china was around $200

    • @65Drums
      @65Drums  6 років тому +1

      Remo Silent Stroke Heads don't perform as well as 2 or 3 mesh drumheads. I remember I had trouble with it triggering too much lol. But It shouldn't be dropping hit's like that. Maybe the Threshold setting is up too high, check on that. And try cycling through different trigger presets like the PDX100 setting.

    Spent over £4k on a custom Jobeky kit a few years back and was hugely disappointed. The kit came fitted with nasty cheap Chord mesh heads - not suitable for edrums. The Drumcraft hardware felt like entry level hardware (think Premier Olympic) Also experienced problems with the Roland ride triggering which Roland were not helpful about when I reported this to them in the hope they would repair/replace it. Also had to wait for over 4 months for all the parts of the kit to arrive. Had the kit for less than 12 months before deciding to part with it. Such a shame the kit didn't meet my expectations.

    Ordered a trigger off them about 5 months ago never received it they said they sent another but I highly doubt it. They don’t give you any confirmation of shipping or tracking and you’ll be waiting weeks for an email back from them. Very bad customer service would recommend going to a different company if possible as have had better experiences so far with the others.
    This was just my experience with them might have been better for others

    I know its an old thread Justin, but I'll answer the question (2:36) about converting imperial to metric measurements when using cables. A 1/4 inch TRS cable is roughly 6.3 mm and 1/8 inch TRS one is 3.5 mm.
    Nice A to E drums!

    And it's funny because I emailed jobecky 4-5 times about ordering one of their products 4 weeks ago and still waiting on a response and unless your making videos about their gear or inquiring about a 2k kit, they don't seem to motivated to answer questions and I've read others accounts of the same online this is absolutely no offense to you Justin it seems like their on their best behavior when someone like you is reviewing their products but who knows things happen I guess thought they would be more motivated to make a few hundred

      I'm sure they respond quicker to my emails for reasons you said, but at the same time (as far as I can tell) this is a small company run by a brother and sister. It might just be that they just don't have the man power necessary to respond very fast.

      Hi Mike no problem, again apologies, we did have an out of office on as I lost my father and things were difficult and still are now, we always tell people we are a family ran business, we have been doing this for 12 years and are very passionate about what we do, we also had a new website launch and unfortunately customer data couldn't be transferred across and people had to re register and a few emails got lost but the new website is more mobile friendly and we are getting good feedback on it. I stay up and call customers in the states at midnight and 1 am here to catch people at a time to suit them, we take our customer service seriously and if we do get things wrong we do our best to get things sorted. sometimes emails are answered late at night here as thats when I get round to doing emails and a lot of customers have my mobile number. kind regards Jane
