@@sunkissedbucketlist As a saigon resident, the french might have colonised us but they sure know how to plan a damn good city, district 1 is amazing with the juxtaposition of the historical french architecture, with some modern elements and also the huge parks. I wanted to point out that while visiting the post office, the church under construction is the saigon notre dame cathedral that was also built in the 19th century, the place where the coconut dude scammed you was right in front of the independence palace, originally called norodom palace until it got destroyed and had to be rebuilt, it was also built in the 1800s, the place right behind Ho Chi Minh's statue is the saigon city hall, that was built in 1902-1908, and right in front of the opera house where you mentioned all the expensive stores also hosted plenty of old hotels, such as hotel continental, once again built in the 19th century while the taller buildings are hotels built under american rule around the 1960s. Even while walking many of the buildings are built from the late 19th century to the early 20th century, they just aren't known because there is nothing of note inside them or the architecture isn't as grand as the other buildings but I think its great because these buildings are the ones that give Saigon some character, theres just something about run-down american service apartments or french villas and apartments with the overgrown vibe that really gets me going.
