I think it will suit your needs for what you are going to be using it for. Like you said, it is the best option for not having to modify and buy a whole bunch of other stuff just to carry some extra gas with you.
Brother you so nailed it spot on!!!!! Just need the extra gas thats about it lol. Lets not for get the occasional haul to get fuel for the mower too ha!
Good video Chris. i had a big metal gas tank on the back of my 68 Bronco back in the 80's. Only had to use it once! Good luck on the trip. Great install video!
Hi MARY! Thanks so much it truly wasn't to bad. Just need a tad more fuel here in Texas for those trips ha :) You know that color surely has grown on me ;)
Added mine about a month ago, seems to fit great with my 285 Milestar Patagonias. Only issue is that the bracket vibrates from left to right, no sounds but it definitely shimmys. Love it tho.
Its a good in between but rattles like crazy on the trails. Mentioned it in a recent episode I think. All it all . For the price it gets the job done for sure.
Not a bad mount. Like everything mounted to the tailgate. too much load will do bad things to the hinges.. I will be waiting to see the updated version. Thank you for the video, Chris and Bobby
Totally Agreed. Their just never seems to be a good mount for carrying fuel with out some major mods. Might just have to install a full Gobi I presume lol. All for 5 gallons of gas ha.
You guys are ready for your next trip! Awesome addition! Man, I know when we went through the midwest, we definitely had stretches where gas was far and few between. So this is an excellent idea! Nice points at the end on how it could be improved, but definitely a great starter!
I mounted the Fuelpax 3.5gal and had no issue on several off road trips now. I wanted to staked 2 of the 3.5Gal but Rotopax shockingly said that they dont recommend stacking using the 3 gal extension they specify to bu used for this. Further I guess now looking at the video showing the tape measure that the depth of the 2 cans wont allow the door to open all the way.
Nice, ha crazy thing in another video we actually installed the extension. I welded the brackets up on the main mount this helped some but not alot. With that said Im still running the extension on it today. Still looking for a more reliable install but it works. Your exactly correct. It stops right at the tailight guards. A little too close if you ask me.
@@BubbasgarageTv Ive since installed the 3" extender and stacked 2 Fuelpax 3.5 gal cans using that extender but also added for support a vertical strap around the cans and the Rotopax hinge bracket. I did some serious offroading and miles and that configuration held up well. 2 cans does keep the gate from swinging open all the way but it opens plenty wide enough to load and unload with the cans still on. Easy enough to remove a can if you need to open the gate all the way. Next im making a aluminum plate that the cans can sit on to take load of the Rotopax threaded mount and also will used the vertical strap again.
Great install! On my older Yamaha Motorcycle I had Rotopax mounted to it, it worked out great! I thought they had extension so you could add another Fuel Pack or a bigger one. I'm planning to put a fuel and water pack on the trailer. Awesome Video My Friend!
Hey Rex, they sure do and I have many of them but given the clearance room between the mount and the Jeep when the door is open it wont allow for another can. This is the 3 Gallon can. I was sure hoping to get another 2 gallon can on it as well. Oh yeah that trailer will work out great for a couple 2 gallon containers for you. We Carry two of them on on trail box and they work out really well.
Really good review, thanks for posting. Something I noticed during the video is that the mound seems to vibrate easily. Not sure how much that matters, but my jeep rattles enough as it is lol.
Great question still opens just fine. If you use a 3 Gallon Rotopax it will just barley touch. We posted some pictures on our Facebook page a while back if it helps. facebook.com/BubbasgarageTv/photos/a.1534530293536440/2160562140933249/?type=3&theater
Sure can, we have a 2 gallon storage container on top and a 3 gallon rotopax on bottom but we are running stock tires. with a 2 gallon on bottom you might be able to run 33 inch tires. It gets pretty tight. Here is our playlist on this mount if it helps. ua-cam.com/video/G8f4XPEgogo/v-deo.html we also posted some pics on our facebook page with measurements.
You can run up to a 35" tire with this mount. If you have a tire larger than 35" I'd suggest the Teraflex heavy duty mount with the High jack bracket and Rotopax mount. It's a lot more expensive but you can run a 37 or 40" tire with the Teraflex
Crazy thing I can't seem to walk away from it lol. We use it like 3 to 4 times a week. I'll be headed to your channel here soon. Hoping for some new meal ideas ha ;)
Sure enough. Sorry about that. The tank uses a RotopaX mount that bolts to the mounting plate and holds the fuel can. At 8:15 those bolts are the bracket for the tank. We will be doing another video latter this summer when we mod this bracket. Ill be sure to get some better shots.
wow thats funny i just saw one of those container sets on a jeep yesterday and was wondering what the orange container was for. It didnt mount the same i think it was the tire mount kit you were talking about. Nice install cool way to have extra safe storage. Enjoyed your video
Helloooo :-)) Now, I have to ask you soemthing that struck me already with the last video... how do you get your images so good and clear? May I ask you which cam you are shooting with? :-))
A 3.5 Fuelpax will fit with a 33" tire. You can also run a 4 gallon rotopax...but not 2 rotopax together. I emailed them and asked about running (2) 3.5 gallon Fuelpax. They didn't advise it, since it could be too much weight for the mounting bracket bolts. I'll eventually upgrade to the Teraflex HD tire carrier and sell the Rotopax PAX JK mount. I'm not really impressed with it, for how expensive it is for all the parts.
Hey thanks a bunch. We have been looking at the Teraflex Hinge with the GP Accessory Bracket. We have been running this setup for a while and truly not happy with it at all. Probably going to make the plunge/switch in the spring :)
@@BubbasgarageTv Yeah, I'm not crazy about it, either. I don't think it's the best quality for the price. I've made a stop and the Rotopax PAX lock was loose. It's almost $200 for everything and I can't 100% trust it.
Pretty cool, and it didn't look too hard to install. Wish it held a wee bit more fuel though :) Great job guys, thanks for sharing! Have a blessed day ---Stacy 😍❤
Thanks Stacy, Its not to bad at all. Totally agree on needing to carry more fuel. Here in Texas things can get pretty far apart lol. Hope you all are doing well.
Bubbas Garagel Vlogs - I totally agree Chris! We went to Utah, Las Vegas and the Grand Canyon at this time last year, and crossed Texas twice. Let me tell you, we thought it was taking a sweet for-evah to get through Texas, LOL! Beautiful country though, and one of our favorite states to visit! Have a wonderful and blessed day ----Stacy 😍❤
After the production of this video we took the opportunity to reach out to RotopaX. Unfortunately they really didn't care nor take the time to hear about our concerns with this product. The product has since been pulled from the their website. I suspect a new version might be in the works. With that said I personally am not please with the fact they could care less about getting feedback from their customers. Is what it is, but speaking the truth!
Nicek, Please keep us posted. What size tires do you run. I think a 2 gallon with 35 inch tire is really tight. We run stock tires and two 3 gallon Rotopax with the extension and it comes really close. We are taking the bracket off and modifying it today. To sturdy it up and to trim the ends so the end caps can fit on. Video coming soon. One thing we noticed is the mount wobbles like crazy when the paxs are full. Notice the small tap in their video at 4:00.
Just posted pictures, would really like to see what the new one has to offer. I can't see how you can run 35 inch tires with anything more than a 1 gallon pack if you are lucky. Hmm. Keep us posted would love to know your thoughts for sure.
Ive used this hinge mount and fit 2 ea FuelPax 3.5 gal on it with the Rotopax 3 gal extension. Rotopax told me they dont recommend stacking 2 on their mount without shelf support. I made a aluminum shelf due to this concern. The other issue is that with 2 Fuelpax, the door will not open all the way before the taillight interferes The door opens far enough though to get at the inside. The Fuelpax and the Rotopax are the same width so this is the same issue with either. Im going to go to Rotopax becuase the Fuelpax just ballon up to much when its hot and its very difficult to release them as they are pressing so hard against the holder and that they ballon so large is just plain scary. Im hoping the Rotopax with their thicker sides do a better job.
Hey Robin, great information. We are looking at changing some things up in the near future. Just not sure what option we are going to go with just yet. not a lot of good options to care more than 2 gallons. :(
Thanks, great question. We posted a few measurements a while back on our facebook page. Honestly depending on the rotopax setup and weather or not you have the extension bracket you might be able to run more. With that said I do not think you will be able to fit more then a 2 gallon container wide and another 2 gallon container high with the extension bracket. On our setup we run the 3 gallon and it just barley touches the light when the door is opened. Hope this helps.
Another great video and I love your angles you guys have been using... Very professional.. Also the installation didn't seem that Intense.. I'm don't know much Bout cars but it's always good to be fuel... Yeah you don't wanna damage the spare and it's all measurements
It would be awesome if you get a bigger gas container on there. 2 gallons of gas don't get you to awful far but five would be fantastic. All in all it looks like a very well built product for sure. And there's not too many products out there that give really good instructions anymore. Thanks for sharing my friends.
