My parents bought an aluminum canoe at Stark’s in Prairie du Chien as an anniversary gift to each other years ago (they live in La Crosse). The canoe is now under my deck in Minnesota. :)
Alexis St. Martin worked for the American Fur Company on Mackinac Island , Michigan. He was seriously injured by an accidental gunshot and was treated by Dr. Beaumont. St. Martin could no longer work for the fur company so Beaumont hired him as a handyman. The wound to his stomach never healed over so Beaumont began doing experiments on the digestive system by lowering food into St. Martin's stomach. St Martin followed Beaumont to Fort Niagara and later joined him at Fort Crawford. There are many places named after Dr. Beaumont based on his work on the digestive system.
Hello Russ! I'm happy you're having a great time on your epic trip. We are too! So glad you are sharing with everyone. I have never been this far north in Wisconsin, nor have I been to Lake Superior. The Great Lakes are awesome and so is the Mississippi River. We really enjoy your videos. Drive carefully and watch for deer. Thank you!
I have a friend in Prairie du Chien that has a RV he uses in the summer and another friend just south of Duluth in hayward. Hope you get to stop in some of those northwoods fishing/resort areas and see what the northwoods is all about. the UP is also awesome. Thanks for coming here and stopping (I know you were in the UP and LP Michigan a couple of years ago.)
God Bless , United States America , Russ , RVerTV Fans. Greetings from Huron Kinloss , Ontario, Canada. Sunny/ Warm here. Happy Trails - U.S.A. - Russ - RVerTV Fans. We Love RVerTV - Grand Journey thru U.S.A. - Grand Videos - Grand Music. Have a Great Summer/ Have a Great Day Eh.🤠🤠🤠🤠🤠🤠🤠
Its Beautiful town..I have a couple of friends that live in Prairie du Chien..one is 96 years old.she moved there a few years back from Beloit, WI...she use to drive down sit in that area to watch the activity on the mighty Mississippi.she loved every minute of her beautiful surroundings...she is now homebound..I check on her by phone once a week, she lived in Arizona when her children were young..happy trails..thanks taking us with you on your travels as always. ..feels good to see Prairie du Chien again.😊
OMG. I’m propped. right in my bedroom watching UTube videos. In Superior Wi. Here for summer/fall then back to Homosassa Fl for the winter. This is a beautiful area. I was born here as were my children. Great small Town Wi point is where my youngest granddaughter and I go with out stand up paddle board. And there’s Barkers island beach right in our city at our marina. And we have Billings Park on other side of our city on the water. I’m glad you’re getting chance to tour us here. Watched many many of your videos love your channel you do great service along with bringing these beautiful places into our homes. Thank you. ❤
Hi Russ! I first discovered your channel when I came across a video of you driving the loneliest hwy in america. And been watching ever since. Thanks for the great content. What a wonderful concept you've created! Keep on trucking ❤
truly saved best for last in this video! although do enjoy the ride along/museum's & stops along the way... how vast superior looks. can clearly see why Gordon says she never gives up the dead. im well traveled but never been here keep truckin...Russ
Hey Russ, thanks for the good video as usual. Interesting isn't it when you add rear view as the van pulls away from the bridge. Here's another thought. Pause @ 1:52 you're making the left turn. You notice some cars to your right. As you make a complete turn, at this point, you can add another rearview - say about four seconds or so, just to take a quick lookback at those cars as you pull further away. This little addition, I think, would also make the video a little more interesting to see. Small stuff that can sometimes make big difference. I wish I had been in the field of movie making business like James Cameron. That would be fun. And again, pause @3:01 you're crossing another little bridge. Two cars are passing by. Here too, at this point, you can add another rear view, 4 or 5 seconds, to see those cars pull further away behind you. Fun to watch really. God bless.
I swear I caught a whiff of chocolate when you walked past that chocolate shop. Had to pause the video and grab a handful of M&Ms. RVERTV always goes well with a little chocolate. 😊
Bought me a small teardrop camper a week ago and in 2 weeks I’m heading up thru Michigan to camp a couple places and then up thru northern part and cut back down thru Wisconsin and come back down thru Illinois to home in Cincinnati.
Exploring these hidden gems with you feels like a virtual adventure. I'm amazed by the historical tidbits you uncover along the way. It's fascinating to learn about the stories behind the places you visit. Your attention to detail, like those subtle rearview shots, adds a special touch to your videos. Keep sharing these captivating journeys! Looking forward to your next destination. Safe travels! 🛤🌟
Lock and Dam #9! I used to live in the River towns of Winona, MN and LaCrosse, WI. Two more great towns to explore next time through! Fun to watch you in my region! -Kim
Hi Russ, Another wonderful video in a place I haven't been to. The small towns are my favourite, so well kept and clean. Those 4 ore docks look amazing. I never realised that there were 4 located there. Looking forward to the next one, safe travels.
I like preserved old towns and their pride in sharing their history in museums. I live near one but they seem to feel the need to modernize and it’s sorely lacking in museums. Locks and dams are amazing and opened the Midwest for commerce. Chasing 70° sounds like a great plan. The Duluth Superior region is a favorite of mine. As you pass through the Upper Peninsula, you might want to check out Big Spring. It’s about 6 miles west of Manistique on Highway 2, I think. Thank you for taking us along.
We followed the Great River Road from Tennessee north on the eastern side of the river and crossed over to Iowa at Prairie Du Chien to go back south. A lot of the towns had flood damage next to the river.
Now your headed towards my old summer stomping grounds 😊👍 Beautiful country up there…..in the summer!! Lol Safe travels 🙏🏻 thank you for another wonderful video ❤
LOVE the furniture! (22:23) I thought the camp ground could be a nice experience for kids to experience "camping" if the family doesn't have a van or camper... nice video all in all! Lots of info covered.
1:11:25 Sadly the old lighthouse keeper homes were torn down a few months after your visit. They had really deteriorated over the past decade once the windows were broken out. The nearby dock is the Burlington Northern ore dock where ships load taconite pellets for delivery to the steel mills of Indiana, Ohio, and Michigan. The Edmund Fitzgerald took on her final load here on November 9, 1975 before setting out on Lake Superior on her final voyage. She sank in a storm on November 10, taking her 29 crew to the bottom with her.
Nice Russ this is a first- time video for me the Mississippi and Lake Superior. Gordon Lighfoot wrote a song about the reck of the Edmand Fitzgerald are you going to be around the town where they pay tribute to the sailors? Don't know the name of it.
I have a friend that lives around Duluth. Looks like a very nice area although it does get very cold in the winter. the closest I've been to that area is Marquette Michigan. I enjoy watching your videos because I used to be an OTR driver.
If you are still in the area you must stop at the Anchor Bar for a bacon cheeseburger and fries. I guarantee you have never been in a bar like that. WOW some of my old stomping grounds. Three decades boater and did many trips on the Mississippi from MN and one trip almost went all the way to Missouri. I also spent a lot of time on Superior boating and diving the shipwrecks of Isle Royale. Many good UA-cam videos on those shipwrecks if anyone is interested. Cold fresh water equals very preserved wrecks. If you are going to follow the south shore I am sure you will stop in Bayfield. Take a tour boat out to the islands. You won't regret it. If you take the ferry over to Madeline Island make sure you check out Tom's burned out café. Sure is different than AZ huh?
Is the Iron Mountain area on this itinerary? I was unaware of the huge ski jump when I visited the UP. It might be fun to see it through your lens. Thanks again for the adventure.
I grew up in the twin ports area , the area Def changed alot since I was last at wi point (the part on other side was mn point so u cloud say u were at both wi point and mn point

Great story there to follow Russ's.
We are proud of you for saving history by your video too. This for all you do 😅
I love the 3D miniature dioramas that many museums have. Especially those dioramas showing people doing whatever it was they did back in their day. ❤
Riding with RUSS....Great 😊
Heavy rains in Valle Vista, stay safe and thank you for another wonderful video.
Always excited when I see a video pop up on my feed. Thank you for taking us along

The Delta Queen is often on the Ohio river and still runs. I was on a small paddle wheeler on the Ohio and loved it.
Those that got heat want it cooler & us in the North want some warmth before winter sets in!!!
Been chilly in South Dakota all spring and most of summer
Did you re read the Zachary Taylor Jefferson Davis marker? Pretty interesting trivia. Thanks Russ for the River run!
Thank You !! Yes those name were in the museum too. very interesting what took place around that area and all the battles . Small town but big history

My mother went to Duluth for nursing school in late 30s early 40s. She told me about the high winds and Super bone chilling winters.
Thanks for sharing Russ!! Be safe on your travels!! ❤❤
Marine Traffic is the name of the website you need to track the freighters coming into port. Happy Trails !
There are actually 2 different river channels at Prairie du Chein. The west channel is the main shipping channel.
It used to be that you’d have be on assignment by National Geographic to get paid to joyride and travel, taking pictures. Enjoy the ride Russ 🎉 😉
wonderful history

The riverside “ boat ramp” down by the old hotel… was a old ramp where steam boats used to nudge up to the bank to unload cargo

I highly recommend you stop in Marquette, Michigan. You won’t be disappointed.
happy sunday russ , hey you looking for mark twain ya may wanna check out hannible missouri . safe travels
Russ if you go to the UP of Michigan you should checkout the Sault Ste Marie locks.

Russ if you go through Sturgeon Bay on on the way to Door County there is a Maritime Museum right on the water that is very nice
10:49 Those are grain cars.
Does it cost to go through the locks
being this is AUGUST and the heat is on---buying a 24 pack of ''OLD MILWAUKEE'' is the best thing to have on hand
