  • With water being one of our most valuable resources, having the ability to harvest rainwater provides another option for us to have and store this critical resource for future use. In this video I walk through the steps and components needed to create one option for a rainwater catchment barrel.

This is the best rain barrel video on UA-cam. You have a real gift for teaching. Look forward to more videos.

Any idea when you might do the next video (on filtration)?

That uniseal adapter is awesome. Has it leaked at all in the past year?

They are very handy for this project. I have three barrels now using these. Two have been in my yard for 6+ years and I have not seen any leaks so far.

How is the valve standing up to the sun? I think after a few years (summer and winter) the plastic valve might crack. Do you think a brass valve from the beginning is bettter?

Great question… I do have this same valve on another barrel that has lasted for going on 6 years or more, and it still seems to be doing good so far. Even with the Arizona sun baking it each summer in my back yard. I also have another barrel with a metal valve, but that configuration does take a little different bulk head connections for the bottom of the barrel. Both can be a good option with the right connections.
