Aloha, Bob! Very nice illustration of the inner workings of a solar charging system and looking forward to more episodes! Take care my brother.
Mahalo David! 🤙
Good Afternoon ! Got home late last night & missed this. Lookin forward to this. TAKE CARE..
Good morning!🤙
Right On Time for Starting Out - My hang up is Adding Panels up Not to Exceed My Victron Smart Solar Charge Controllers for each System. 4 24 Volt Systems so Far and 2 Eco Flow EF3 Delta Pro 1300's and a River 2 Pro so Far on Board with 2 Portable Solar Panels at 160 watts and a 100 watt for the River 2 Pro
Great you are getting into it. I'll cover that aspect of working with the voltage for the CC's in this series. Aloha!🤙
Why so many isolated systems?
@@naps3386 Lodge, Well Pump and Electric Hot Water Heater, Bunkhouse is 220 Feet away from Main Battery Bank and Solar Array is Shading the Chicken Coop and Well House Nicely.
Server and Work Station, Internet Router and Wifi and Security System and Lighting is a whole separate System. For a Total of 4 here now @ 24 Volt
CHINS 280AH Lithium Iron Phosphate for 8
RENOGY 200AH AGM for 8 Paired into 24 Volt Packs
Right there with you. I got 3 with a 4th on the way. I haven't flipped the switch on them yet. I also have a Delta Pro 3600 and a 1300. 1 - 24 volt and 2 12 volt. And got eyes on taking one of the 12s to 48 with a couple more batteries. I like the idea of multiple systems in case something goes down I got backups for the most important stuff. Unfortunately, being in Texas AC is the biggest energy draw.
A wonderful concept of solar is, its tax free. I think LiFep04 batteries are the best thing since microwave ovens.
🤙
Great video series idea. I got my 3 systems lined up. Started the layout for 2 of them. Bus bars, fuses, etc. Still a little nervous about flipping the first switch. I know it will be a fine I'm sure.
I always hold my breath when flipping the switch the first time too! And that's even after checking, and rechecking! 🤣🤙
Very good basic way to get started. I love the PowerStation's. I have a few now. great time to be thinking about making your own power. The power Grid in the US is in trouble. Going down a lot. Record Breaking GRID DOWN. Texas been in the news a lot lately. Now Las Vegas NV had a recent large grid down. and during a heat wave, some have died . I am in NY and over the years a grid down is happing more often and longer I am seeing. this is not everywhere . but watch the news . power going out a lot more now then in years past. and the cost ! as a electrician I get asked a lot about reducing electric bill.
Even here the grid been going down. It is seriously outdated. More and more people looking to avoid being dependent on the unreliable grid! The news everyday is showing how vulnerable we are. Crazy times indeed. Aloha!🤙
@@ProjectsinParadise808 The info I have on US power grid is 50% is 60 years old or older. Alaska has grid trouble as well.
You are the Will Prouse for the boomers Bob. I am looking to add more panels to fill the tank.
Aloha Dave!😉🤙
Hi Bob,
I’m looking forward to the upcoming beginner series. Thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts and ideas.
Take care.
Aloha Ernie! Will be my pleasure. 🤙
Good show, back to basics so regular folks can learn about being prepped for coming power-grid outages. Glad to see your YT success has not gotten you to concentrating on esoteric, outlandishly expensive stuff only a select few can afford. You ever make any hand-truck solar generators to wheel around your property? I've made four of them in the last 3-1/2 yrs. and can help my neighbors run washing machines, etc when the chips are down. Mahalo.🍍
Mahalo Dave! I made one attached to my hand truck for moving power out to further are on the property. It has big air filled tires to get around the bumpy lava configurations pretty nicely! That's awesome brother!🤙
Thanks Bob, very good analogy 👏. I like the way you explain it and list the parts you use is also helpful. I need to order a few more things for mine.
Mahalo John!🤙
Absolutely brilliant explanation of solar.
Aloha!🤙
Thanks for very informative video. I used to have zero idea how to make off grid solar systems but with research here on UA-cam I now know how to build simple systems. Pretty much you have to search how much power you are using and find a battery that will last 3 days without solar to build a really good system. Most important to me is the refrigerator if it uses 1kwh per day than a 3kwh battery will run it for 3 days with no solar. I would use maybe 600watt of solar to keep it running 24/7 off grid or as much solar as you need to keep the batteries charged. Next I would find a way to have all the household lights to run off grid as well, during a power outage it will be difficult to see anything at night. With led bulbs it will be a less expensive solar system build. And for A/C I've heard there is a really cool mini split that can be powered with 3 solar panels from a company called Airspool < Most a/c systems are reliable but need to do more research on this brand & if it can cool at least 1 room.
All great information Joey, and mahalo with sharing that for everyone! Good stuff🤙
EG4 makes a solar powered mini split as well. They also make mini splits 12 and 24 volt dc for big rig trucks.
This is much appreciated and I cannot wait until the series begins!!! Thank you so much!!!!
Mahalo for tuning in! Going to make the next month or so a complete series from where we started today, until a finished system is up and running. Aloha!🤙
I been watching you for a long time now finally ia time for me to hook everything up, very helpful video
would go for an all in one- mppt, battery charger, invertor-- less wiring -growatt, eg4,solark etc
Yeah, those are great as well...so easy now, plug and play! Aloha!🤙
Aloha. My favorite foods hands down in this exact order: 1) Maine Lobster Tails ( Large only) 2) Alaskan King Crab legs 3) Giant Tiger Prawn 4) Peaches 5) Select Cut Beef Steaks 6) Whole Chicken ( Barley Vegetable Stew/soup) 7) Halibut steak 8) pineapple 9) Ham Tenderloin 10) Tomato 11) Bean Burrito 12) Rice 13) Potatoes 14) Nuts 15) Plums 16) All Sushi 17) Game Moose, Burbot, Rabbit, Grouse, Elk, Boar, Trout/ Catfish, Pheasant, Dove, Quail, Pigeon, Chicken Egg, Cucumber, Zucchini, Apple, Fig, Pinion nut Sun dried Tomato Basil, Olive oil, goat cheese on whole grain Tuscany crust Pizza. However, I'm ecstatic about other people's salad concoctions and my two my personal dishes: Grandma's Liver Dumpling Soup which embarrassingly resemble excrement in urine and Mom's Roulade which is little more than an inside out steak burger served with potato noodle and brown gravy 😊 Yet, I eat plain oats everyday.
You're making me hungry! 🤣🤙
Enjoyed the video. Thanks for sharing
Anytime brother!🤙
Thanks for the videos love your channel helps me relax ❤
Fantastic!🌴🤙
I`ve talked to solar forums until simply giving up trying to simply get one single person to tell me if it`s possible to use two 200w panels in series into a 60 amp MPPT charge controller connected to a 300ah 12v battery. It is impossible to get straight answers. I unhooked my panels and controller after two attempts after trying to get answers and getting a different story from 8 different people. I wall-charge the battery before storms. It cost too much to risk. Apparently a BMS does nothing and I can overcharge the battery, according to one guy, if I don`t "tell my charge controller the exact capacity of the battery." That`s when I just gave up. Why can`t they build a simple LiFeP04 charger you can connect to a battery and solar without 10,000 settings?
Awesome, I am glad you are doing a beginner series. I will be moving to my land on the big island in 6 months to start building. My question is, where do you get your components? Do you have to order them online or is there a good source on the island? Where do you get the batteries?
That's awesome freebird! I will be continuing this series over the coming weeks. I get most of my stuff online, although there are outlets here as well depending on what you're looking for. Stay in touch brother, I'll do my best to point you in the right direction if need be. East or West side? Aloha!🤙
@@ProjectsinParadise808 Thanks!, Eden Roc
@@freebird9229 Right on! That's just a little ways uphill from me!🤙
Also can you hook up one of your regular batteries to your solar generator to expand your gas tank?
Great info, thank you.
My pleasure!🤙
Very cool thank you 👍
My pleasure!🤙
Fun stuff!!
Aloha Rick!🤙
Hi Bob. Do you use a tablet for your victron apps? Thanks for another great video.
Yes I do, or phone, or laptop...they all work for the Victron apps. Aloha!🤙
Why is your 800 wtt inverter larger than your 1600 wtt all in one solar generator?
I just want to get 400 watts input into a 12v 300ah battery with a 12v to 48v 60 amp MPPT charge controller with 8 gauge MC4 & 8 gauge tray cables and 600 to 800 watts of panels and solar forums have confused me beyond belief. I simply want to power a 400w air conditioner without spending another 3000. I almost got a power station with "500w" solar input...yet another scam...because you have to pay a huge amount for THEIR matched FOLDING panels to get that! Not real panels....FOLDING PLASTIC ONES!
I'm in Washington State and it takes nearly all day perfect sun to charge my 280 ah lifpo4 battery with 12 100 watt panels .,grr I do need more panels for sure.. 16 is what I need because I don't get perfect clear skies to often
hello bob
Aloha Lee!🤙
@@ProjectsinParadise808 bob what gauge wire are you using on the battery to the inverter im using double 4 gauge hope that is good enough
