We recently stumbled upon this graphics card, it isn’t new by any means but it’s insane sounding! We are looking at an AMD RX 580 that has had extra VRAM soldered onto it… 8GB more! This means that this is an RX 580 16GB!?

I actually love that this exists. Going to make people wonder why nvidia charges so much for a little vram. I understand this is ddr5 but the ddr6 used in the 4060 is also pretty old tech at this point
GDDR6X isn't that cheap. But yeah Nvidia's going to offer as little VRAM as they can in order to sell higher tiered products. With DLSS/Frame generation being a thing, you can run every game with an RTX 4070 just fine,so they have to offset that somehow.
I can't wait until we get 32GB of GDDR7 RAM lol
Because there are people stupid enough to buy them.
@@100500daniel or you can get a 6950xt for 599$ right now....
@@100500danielyou are right GDDR6 is not that cheap, 25$ for 8gb of extra vram is a lot. That’s why Nvidia charges 100$ more for the Rtx 4060 ti 16gb, it’s totally justifiable. And the Rtx 4070 has plenty of vram too, especially when you enable frame generation that uses almost 2gb of vram by itself, so you left with 10gb for the textures. You are also right, it’s totally fine. Nvidia approves this fanboy. 😂😂😂
I recall that there was a 16GB RX 570 released for mining. Sounds like they took one of those and flashed it with an RX 580 2048SP vbios.
That makes TOTAL sense. Avoid this card at all cost.
Unlikely. They probably had to slightly mod the BIOS to work with 16GB. But people have been soldering 16GB onto 3070s and even did a 2080Ti with 44GB.

I would love to test that in video rendering. If its a legit 16gb then thats a perfect card for budget video rendering..
I want try too
And VR
I soo want this to become a thing. Someone please start making these for every old model out there.
Love ur vids and it helps me figure out for what pc to get tysm ❤
I picked up one and dropped into a dell precision t7810 and it works quite well - so well that I just ordered a second one to put into another xeon v4 build that I'm working on. Also, it came in 7 days - I was quite impressed for Aliexpress!
Do you recommend the 2667 or 2690 v4 for gaming?

love your content guys.
This is especially impressive if you factor in a 25% overclock

Great video Toasty!
glad my suggestion made it to a video!
Makes sense for workstation applications, would love a 3060ti 16gig card
What a cool find!
Seems like the AliExpress pc build video is coming soon
In older cards like this it's probably pointless, but in newer ones more than 8 gb is mandatory for future proof. RE 4 Remake maxes out the 12 gb of my RX 6700 XT in 1080p ultra settings.
Damn you guys are on it 😎
There is an older version that is from a proper "brand" though usually very costly used in medical industry from Barco. It is the MXRT-8700 and the are pretty expensive but otherwise the full spec core unlike the Chinese cards from what I can recall.
Same store also has a 3080 non-TI with 20 GB and the repurposed mobile variants of 6600, 3060 and others
Ali cards are looking very nice for a First time build like mine 😯
I wonder if you could use the card for virtualization either through profiles or GPU-P for generalized desktop workflows... Some virtualized desktops done need too much raw GPU compute, but could benefit from having 4-8GB of vRam per VM.
I got this as a surprise in an HP 8300 CMT. RDR2 holds 75fps in 1080 with everything cranked up. Slaps so hard.
Thats a cool and intresting GPU! I just started Playing Far Cry 5 a few weeks ago and i never played a Game that uses so much Vram At 1080p it maxed out at 10.5gb Vram usage for me!
Which card do u use? A 3060?😊
@@Adrianwe44 Yes :)
I am very interested in this for Stable Diffusion.
The 2048sp probably wasn't worty of that VRAM, but it still is nice to see this kind of wacky exists.
Most VRAM intensive settings are actually kind with the core, I used to play medium low settings with an RX 480 8gb, but textures and stream cache mostly to the max. Would love to see this on 5700xt or 6650xt
theese are really nice for stablediffusion and rendering
We just need companies to find a way to do this with GDDR6 to last gen 8 gig cards...that might actually be useful. I need to upgrade, but all this talk (with evidence) that 8 gigs won't cut it for much longer for at least some games I"d like to play, means I'm looking at cards with at least 12 gigs...which is more than my budget will really allow tbh. Then again, I also remind myself that my current card only has 4 gigs of VRAM so 8 gigs is still an upgrade for me and I can always just turn down some of the settings to keep the VRAM usage in check and most games will still be playable while looking pretty good still, especially since I only have a 1080p monitor, but with so much talk about it being a problem, it's hard not to feel like you absolutely need to have 12-16 gigs min or games won't run at all (I know it's not how it works, but it's how it often feels lol)
People have been doing this for the 20 and 30 series. There's been a 2080 Ti with 44GB and 3070 with 16GB.
@@b0ne91 Yeah, I know people can do it, but it would be nice to see a more mass produced effort since not everyone knows how, has the tools needed, or has a shop nearby that would be able/willing.
Interesting info.
Man that is a editing rig dream…..
I'm curious what the extra vram could do to boost VR performance.
it won't, VR is not too different to gaming in 4-5k or so
the best way to test would be AI like stable diffusion. it can easily eat all the VRAM and RAM, and it could be very promising deal
do agree, also test on AI.
wanna see the result in stable diffusion, and chatbot
how fast it generate & respond
Maybe it would help with rendering in DaVinci resolve or premier?
It would be really great to do a test with Blender and video editing softwares!

Honestly I would like to see if it improves performance by using smart access memory which it can be done by a registry file then compare a normal 580 8gb vs the 16gb modal

I have a question. Running an i5 3.90GHz , 32GB of Ram (no idea of DDR number), and a nVIDIA Geforce RTX 3060 Ti. Should I consider upgrading my GPU?
Could you please review the skytech nebula for around 1399?
Sapphire made a 16gb rx570 mining card. Tom's Hardware did a review on it about 4 years ago. Sapphire rx570 block chain edition
I'm curious if this would mean a RX 590 16GB is coming in the future and I'm also curious if this could work on the RX 5700 XT?
KEKW 🤣😂🤣😂
this could work on a 5700xt with nimez drivers realistcally you could only handle 12 on a 5700xt
@@josephdias5859 That would easily make it a great 1440p graphics card with no ray tracing.
590's probably will as they're faster then 580's by slightly and got an higher clock for a better benefits
Finally, AliExpress edition gpus
I wish you guys would add a flight sim of some sort. DCS World is infamous for devouring VRAM. And, being a sim, it doesn't need blazing, fast-twitch, FPS.
You have to software tell it to use more or do tricks to get it to grow or memory leak
You will not find a "stock game" that can really utilize this card, since all games are optimized for relatively fast nvidia cards with low amounts of VRAM.
The only use cases you can make up is by modding old games with extreme textures like skyrim, because this can easily fill over 10 GB of VRAM while not being so heavy on the GPU itself.
Wonder if it be good for voxel world games with detailed and high res textures like 7 Days to Die.
Can you test it on VR games? VR consumes lots of ram
Tbh, the 16GB version can be beneficial for people who use editing and coloring apps (Davinci Resolve for example)
As for gaming, it will have a benefit over the 8GB version only in Warzone 2.0, because on normal textures it easily eats up all the 8GB memory, so for high textures you need more than 8.
would AI make a work of these? they consume many VRAM

The graphics card has 6 pins of power or 8? Cuz if has 6 can't give all performance
you wrong it need 8 chip to have 8 GB vram
the card have 16 chip
the 8 chip in front and 8 in the back i don't know how you cant see them
Curious if this would help with video editing .. making this a good dual use card?
I am curious as well. I would assume there would be some benefit but to what level? also working in unreal engine it might have benefits, as well as vr use. but I'm definitely assuming. but its only 110 dollars I ordered one. if its crap I've spent way more on crap before lol
Not just for gaming but these cards can be used for other purposes
I got a rx560xt 8gb off of Ali Express. Great card.
What do you think about my i7 6700 32 gb ram rx580 8gb
I have a 5600x and a rx 6650 xt and im only getting 60 fps in warzone 2 on low settings. What is wrong?
This card is literally perfect for running Tortoise tts voice cloning on your own pc. You kinda need 16gb vram for that but you don't really need to have the most prossessing units.
Can you overclock it to the max? See how it does
flash with a fire pro bios and it will be great for rendering
This card would be epic to own for older games tho like for textures 🤔😅
When would the extra vram help? Someone using Illustrator? Premier?
Literally for nothing. Rx 580 is literally trash at this point. Vram is not the issue.
Huge amounts of VRAM is good for Photoshop and some particular Production Apps.
I guess they just had some memories lying around, and thought it would do good in the marketing of the card like "look, 16 Gb of VRAM, amazing!!"
But yeah ... Gaming-wise, it makes no difference sticking more than 8 Gb on that card. It's not powerful enough either way to run at Ultra Settings demanding AAA games.
As processing power, it's somewhere weaker than a 3050, and not even a 3050 runs games on maxxed out Settings, if you want playable FPS ...
An rx5700xt with 10, 12 or 16gb would be a beast!
true
Can you guys do a review of an MSI 2080 TI and seeing if it’s still a good card to buy in today’s gaming world?
I have a 2080 super and one of my rigs gets over 100 FPS and everything in 1440p
I wonder if this thing is good for video editing.
are dell optiplex gaming pcs still good
Gddr5 only have maxed 1GB per chip, this Card has 8 more chip on the back of the Card not just the front, you should see it
Cool and entertaining to see but yeah, Defiantly wouldn't pay extra for more RAM that really can't be utilized in gaming.
Should I get a desktop or laptop
real good video, i like it, but isnt there a lot of bottlenecking or something?
More VRAM doesn't mean always higher FPS. If the GPU doesn't have the power, give enough FPS on higher settings, then the VRAM this GPU has is useless. You should've used lower settings with high res and textures.
Nvidia sought out to not let these shady companies make their GPUs. This is why they are popping up everywhere for AMD. I've been wondering about these GPUs.
finally my rx580 goin to live gain
U should try running bfv and escape from tarkov to use this card’s 16gb
I hope AliExpress can come out with newer cards added with more vram. On 580 it wont do anything. Since the vram it came with is already enough.
You should have tried The Last of Us Part I, that's where the VRAM is most used :))
Just here me out a 12gb rx 5700 would be a boss budget gpu
Lots of VRAM on such a card makes Skyrim and Fallout mod users happy.
Memory chips are 32 bit so just divide your memory bus width to work out how many memory chips are on your card, simple.
thats good for using stable diffusion I guess.
Who’s your first and I love your videos you do amazing videos you’re amazing you just help me so much with my day
I'm looking to upgrade my graphics card to one with at least 12gb of vram for game development... Since I'm not using it to play games, I wonder if this would be a good option.
