The overall universal sentiment of the song accompanied with the persuasive melody make this song so unbelievably meaningful memories of youth. Yes, in any town.
How many songs do you know with rain in the title? It Might as well Rain Until September - Carole King. Cryin’ in the Rain - The Everly Brothers (coincidentally, Carole King also wrote the melody for this, with lyrics by Howard Grernfield). Blue Eyes Cryin’ in the Rain - multiple versions. Rhythm of the Rain - The Cascades. Are you going to have a turn? Go on! See which ones you remember. 😅😅
Yes,for many it did represent "a great time in life"; however, not so much for all of the Carrie's that have disappeared and continue to go missing every year in various countries throughout the world. I was just a kid when I became aware of this catchy tune but I am now a grown man with a daughter. There is nothing like having a child to change one's perspective. I should have made this a general comment in lieu of a response to your observations because It is certainly not my attention to provoke anyone, your comments just inspired me to convey my feelings about an important matter. All the best, Cheers from Canada!
The only song by Cliff I have ever really liked. It has a very Steely Dan vibe about it with the subtle key changes and sax solo. This video is better than the official video. A great memory from Kenny Everett.
After all these years of hearing this song, I only spotted that Steely Dan connection tonight! At about 2’50” it is *very* like Don’t Take Me Alive (in a good way)
@Wid Eye That worked, yes. I think you meant "it's never the case these days"...meaning these days one cannot find an actual working payphone, right? A few years ago, I asked a (Japan to America) flight attendant if the airport still had a payphone. She said "what is paid phone?" and shows me a piece of paper on which she had written "paid phone."
@Wid Eye I get it. Sorry payphones got so much UK vandalism back then and sorry apparently landlines were too expensive there. I've always lived in California, always had a landline and never owned a cellphone.
I have never understood why the 2 women in this music video totally ignored Cliff Richard initially and then "fobbed him off" when he showed them a picture of Carrie. That does seem quite rude of them, but perhaps that's an accurate reflection of how some women might be in real life. They treated him like he didn't even exist, like he was a nobody!
Best song Cliff Richard made.Ecellent tune👍❤️!

83 yrs old and still the GREATEST.

I remember watching this at the time and my dad commenting how amazing studio sets could be in replicating rain.

It took someone to mention this for me to get it ....Steely Dan chord progression .. apparently the writer or arranger is a big Dan fan ...
I love this song and Steely Dan as well, good call on the similarity
Great song and artist..I so envy Sir Cliff finding an actual payphone!

L remember this in 1079
13 years after the battle of Hastings . I remember it well. I was living in Pinner Middlesex 🇬🇧 waiting for electricity to be invented 😊
