I met this band in an elevator they proudly showed me a magazine cover with them on the front page I was only 8 or 9 years old they were lovely they lived across the road from me I've a dear to me memory of my recently deceased older sister waving and shouting "Bronski beat" from our 3rd floor balcony at Jimmy as he walked past our building carrying his shopping and him spinning around smilling and waving back . love him love his music forever

I was 7 when this came out I'm now just about to turn 47 in a week's time on the 19th of November my sister listened to all the 80s stuff she was 3 year's older God rest her soul 🙏🏻 as I've grown-up my pallete for music is well diversified and this is a tune 👌🏻 huge respect for what he stood for being gay moving to London where at the time was more accepting of gay people at that time and although I'm not gay myself and removing that altogether he was a fantastic singer in bronski beat the Communards and his solo career were amazing and obviously he's a fellow Scotsmen ☯️💙✝️🏴.

1984 and 3 openly gays men on the BBC. Iconic on so many levels. Fast forward to 2024 and the song is just as relevant and poignant. I was 12 and half when this song was released and I finally saw the rainbow lights. This song I guess is when I truly realised I was as a gay man and knew I would be fine...that's not to say I didn't go through hell as an openly gay teen.

I don't think the synths were re recorded in the totp studios, that must've been done prior. Jimmy of course is singing live here, but the producers wouldn't let Jimmy sing live for other hit singles that Bronski Beat or The Communards performed on totp.
