Thanks a lot. This video really helps. But where are the samples from? Are they included in the Analog Rytm? If yes, can you tell which ones you took? How are they named in the machine?
@@tobiasbraun7635 unfortunately they are not, but you should get good results from those as well! The techno one in the video is from PML melodic techno and the pay one I can’t remember exactly 😅
@@solarj Thanks. Could you tell me which Melodic Techno Sample Pack. There are more to find at the page. It's just because I really like that kick a lot.
Thank you for this tutorial. Very interesting. What’s your experience with making kicks with the DUAL VCO engine? At the moment I combine this with a sample ‘click’ from some sort of percussion in the pad above. I go for a bit more industrial sounding kick. I feel like there’s a lot to explore (and having fun) this way.
Wow that’s a nice one I’ve never tried :) I had some success with the low Tom engine for the low end, also very beefy. Industrial is not my genre but I can totally see how the dual VCO can be great for it. It has some really quirky and gritty modes, thanks for chiming in!
The tom engine works indeed, but lacks character and variation i.m.o.. Maybe combining the low end of a tom with the mids and highs of a dual vco sound could be interesting. I will try your way of doing things with different engines and/or samples. Thanks for the tips! Grtz✌️
Will do 😊. 3-band kicks 🤔... I can't miss one more pad a the moment. Bottom row is kick, tom, rumble and snare all dual vco's with the kick and snare using a tom-pad above as an extra layer. I hope I can handle all this in a live recording for 1 hour of fully improvised techno with the torso t1 in combination with an Analog4, Acces Virus and the Octatrack as performance mixer...and i have a faderfox pc12 and mx12 (a lot of midi to program but a lot of jam fun when ready...)but I defenitively need to do a lot of practicing. 🤞🏼
Thank you for this video! Going to try it out. I am currently on a journey to figure out what my rytm can do to make some more unique sounds than what I could get with ableton. And see if it’s worth using in my workflow or just sticking all in ableton. How do you feel like layering the sub layer / with a top kick on the rytm compared to using a plugin like kick2 or big kick, and then processing that in ableton? I have def noticed the low end weight can sound huge on the rytm. Any input here would be appreciated !
Hey :) I tried working with Kick2 with some success but somehow the analog low end sounds better to me. I think a digitally produced sound does not respond in the same way as an analog one to digital processing. When you digitally synthesize a sound you have very low and very high frequency artefacts, that of course are not audible per se but might create some crap in the audio range after processing. Analog is cleaner in that respect (and maybe dirtier in some other, but we call that analog colour ehehe). Also I found designing transients quite cumbersome with Kick2. Bigkick I tried it once and dropped it immediately. Professional samples from professional producers have the best high-end for kicks in my opinion and at the moment what I show in this video is my favourite kick making method :) That said, I am not 100% sure if I could pass a blind test where you make me listen a kick made with Kick2 and one with this method and I have to tell you which one is which ahahah but one thing is for sure: working with analog machines is more fun and for me the workflow is more reproducible. I like to have limitations when I produce and a good analog machine provides you with 'curated' limitations i.e. constraints designed by the manufacturer that help me achieving the sound I want faster. Hope this helps!
Nice! Question though: Instead of resampling, why not just use the sample along with the synthesized sound on the same track, since you can have both? Wouldn't it be more flexible that way? Or is it only if you want to use the first three tracks for something else?
Sure, it’s another approach leading to the same results :) I tend to prefer committing to audio as I think in music production there is already too much flexibility and for me less is more ;) By resampling after careful sound design I can forget about the kick and work on smth else, the moment the kick doesn’t fit anymore or I don’t like it anymore in context, I go back to re-designing it. But it’s just my workflow there’s no rule and that’s the beauty of it!
Bro you are a legend. These videos are the best tutorials for the Rytm I’ve found 🙏
Awwww 🫶 thanks brooo!
A great tip. Did it on mine, really great kicks
Happy to hear the thumbnail text turned out not to be click bait 🥳 it’s really a good way of making kicks!!
Hihi, you did a nice job there. Watched also other videos, and I can take a lot out of it. Thanks.
Questa è roba forte... ❤❤❤
Da prendere a piccole dosi, mi raccomando! 😁

Happy you liked it :) I use sample libraries I have some from PML and Vengeance that are great for melodic techno, house and psytrance.

Cool. What's the spectrum software? It looks dope & very useful for sound design purposes
Yea it’s very nice!
It’s called Vision 4X one of the guys from Noisia made it.
