Welp I finally got the oiler on my 010 running (after replacing the crank seal at last - bar oil in the fuel tank!) - that little diaphragm spring was long gone and I was agonising over the part number . . not easily available :/ but . . . I slapped a random carb spring in there and it worked! This video helped gear me up for it :)
Just serviced the oil pump on a 009, had it running for just over 3 minutes before it started oozing out, I would off given up sooner had I not watched your clip. Cheers
That is a nice clean and easy starting saw. I find it strange how Stihl had so many different ways of doing things on their saws, even though the same series of saws have a common chassis. Nice job as usual !
Thanks! I wondered how those worked. Fortunately the oilers on both my 011 and 015 seem to still work ok but now I know how to fix them if they ever need work. 😁 BTW, I gave my brother in law your Friends Don’t Let Friends Borrow Chainsaws shirt for Christmas. I was laughing said it’s the only shirt he’ll wear now when cutting wood lol. 😂
Glad to see you were successful. Btw the Contra and the 070 also have a diaphragm in the pump. So it's similar in the design. When I exchanged the diaphragm in my 070 2 years ago I also bought an aftermarket part. But the guiding pin of the diaphragm was to big. Instead of drilling the hole in the pump bigger I decided to buy an original diaphragm. Everything worked perfect. About the spring: I always use the original springs if the function is affected because these chinese aftermarket producers don't care about the function. Same applies e.g. to aftermarket carburetor kits if a spring is included... Best wishes Marco
Had 020avp good saw till the crankcase seals went bad , got 010 good while running, but a real sod to start , but when fired up runs all day , thanks for sharing. 👍
I completed the overhaul of my 009L today and I also install a new oil pump diaphragm. After looking a two other videos about oiler on youtube I am confuse about the position of the spring. Yours is working with the spring between the diaphragm and the pump casing and the other videos show the spring under the cover? In both cases it seems to work but the parts catalog also show the spring under the cover.... I did not use the spring provided by the diaphragm supplier , it is too big and and fail to work.... Thansk for the video!
They are bitching little saws I have a 009 like your parts saw, thing starts and runs perfectly I use it all the time it's extremely reliable thank you for your videos they're extremely helpful!!
Kain-O: I’m restoring a vintage Husqvarna 288xp. Question is can I put my new jug and cylinder and muffler and carb while I’m waiting for flywheel on backorder???
Tinnmann has a great video on the Husqvarna and what you can and can't enterchange on the different models. Well worth watching for gathering any information you need to do so.
Thanks Dan! I just sent a guy home the other day who needed a diaphragm, I told him they've been unavailable for years now lol. I couldn't find the link to the company you deal with for vintage parts though...
I have a Stihl 011, been struggling with my oiler as well. My spring was gone when took apart. Stihl exploded view shows spring on other side of diaphram just under cover ? I have the same cover as yours, kinda like primer but my guts are gone, just a hole through cover. Bought new cover as well like the one you used. Just lost the stupid spring last night and can't find lol Will try and find another spring and put on other side of diaphram. Did you ever try the larger spring that came with new diaphram ? thanks for the video
No problem my Friend, I never tried the larger spring, and yeah a couple people have mentioned spring going on the other side, oiler works so I'm leaving it...lol😁
I've got an 011AVT like yours and been struggling on finding a bar that the drilled oil hole will lign up with the hole for the oil pump......anyone have this problem with the hole on the bar about 1/4" above the oil pump output hole? Ive ordered two bars online a forester and a stihl that said they fit the saw.....both bars fit just fine, they just wont oil! I can see the oil pump hole is offset
I can’t figure out who you’re intended audience is. With the “LOL’s”ect .I don’t know much at all about small engines. I just got a Stihl 012AV with a case and it starts first pull & seems good.simply looking for the proper oil/gas ratio 1st and foremost. Already got 2 answers from comments on a video I watched before this one. 9year old video.one person said 50-1(that’s what I would think, but,a guy in comments said “moore like 40-1”.Still DK the right answer .?.the internet is more confusing than helpful at times. On this repair,If I was replacing this diaphragm, I think I would have tried the new spring that came with the new diaphragm 1st and put the original cover back on.Keep the variables to a minimum. The button design might have something to do with something on that particular saw.?.?correct ..?.is there some place to get schematics and info from people who built/engineered the different stihl models. From what I understand it is a saw built in the 80’s. Don’t want to mess it up. They don’t make stuff like they used to. Thx
19 minutes of talking - there's another video on here that's only 4 minutes and 10 times more informative. You need to stop the chat and get to the point. And there are no "bad boys", ok? that's childish talk.
Oh hell Dan! What do you need a chain and bar oiler for? I swear! 95% of men who own a chainsaw have never figured out that you need to clean the track that the chain rides in on the bar every time you stop to fuel up your saw! They can't figure out why it won't oil so they just pretend that it doesn't really need it and run it metal to metal until it turns a nice pretty blue color and the clutch is smoking. I have a pile of chains and bars that those idiots have done the dirty deed to. I call it the ( Don't be this dumbass pile! ) And it makes you want to slap the piss right out of them for tearing equipment up like that! But they will be the first ones to try and make you believe they know everything about running a chainsaw! I find that they are few and far between the ones that truly understand how to make them work properly. When someone asks me what I do for work? I tell them, My job is to wipe mens asses! Because it seems like all I ever do no matter what I'm working on, is correct someones mistakes on every single frickin thing that I touch these days! I try to get it through younger guys heads, You have to cross your tees and dot your eyes and leave no room for error! It's what separates the men from the boys! Can I get an Amen my brother? 😉

Good video,👍 I like watching people repair things, its so much easier than actually fixing my own stuff

Awesome Brother, glad I could help!
I used the factory spring and it worked great. The new spring doesn’t fit in the depression in the cap to stay centered
That's what I ended up doing too I believe 😉
Good timing. Dad got a steal of an 009 and it's sitting on the healing bench. Waiting on me to tear in.
Heck yeah! Good luck Brother!😊
Nice repair! Go get that 015! Wishing you & the family a healthy, happy, & prosperous New Year!
Same to ya Brother....I may go there there today....lol

Thank you my Friend, yes it is strange how some saws are so much easier starting than others, wish they all fired right up like that!😉

Quirky lil saws but purdy good saws 4 most part. Good work sir.

These are Torque Monsters Love My 009 Top Handle and O15 Top Handle Stihl’s 😀😊😀 Good Job Man 👍🏼
Thanks man, Yes very good power for the size!😁
According to the diagram for a Stihl 010, the little spring goes between the diaphragm and end-cap. Not under the diaphragm.
🤔
I have a sweet little 009L. I also just got an S10 top handle but it's just a rough parts saw .
Nice, those Old S10s are smooth runners!😊
@@KainKustomGarage just found out it's an 08 not an s10
Groovy Dan! Great to see ya again! Happy new year to you and yours!!!!
Happy New Year my Friend!😉👍👍
Just picked up two of these cheap. They run great!

Thank you Sir! ❤❤ Happy New Year!
Which spring & cover did you end up using, was confusing at the end when swapping parts.
Looked like the parts saw cover & the OG spring?
Hi! Yes, ended up using the original spring, new one seemed way too stiff🤔
Ace hardware by me in hurst tx had the diaphram but I dropped that tiny spring and they ordered a new 1 009L
Nice!😊
Great info Dan!
Thanks Chris!😊
Got an ol 012 to do thanks

@@tonymayhew191 Tony: thanks brother. I’m a follower and big fan of the Tinman
What do you think actually fixed the oiler? The new diaphram, plugged pump, plugged line or the time for oil to reach the outlet?
I think it was mainly the diaphragm
Nice man thanks for posting 👍🏻
No prob T!😊
