They DO employ him.. it clearly says in the description "Huge thanks to Boss for GIFTING me this amp." Does Boss gift you an amp? No. you know why? because you don't review stuff for them and hype it up. UA-camrs are just creating infomercials and it is working since he has been "MAKING us buy katanas since 2016".. Obviously Boss's "gifts" to Dave are working to make them money. See how that works?
After amp hopping between a few tube amps I bought one of the gen 3 artist and haven't looked back, it does absolutely everything I could want. Nice review!
This is the first review of the Katana that's actually made me sit up, take notice and listen. Really look forward to a deeper dive if you're planning one. Cheers!

Gets it out of the box. Sounds better than 99% of everybody. Inspiring as always Dave! I can tell that thing sounds amazing in the room. Might be time for swapping some gear and thinning out the herd for this. 🤔
one thing i very much love about your videos dave (other then the guitar playing and love for frusciante) is the gear you use is accecable to us mere mortals. sure, you get to sample some gear from companies without buying it and lets face it, the gen 3 artist combo in australia is over a grand so that can be a stretch for a lot of people for their hobby, but you show the same love for the kat 50's and budget friendly guitars that a lot of us can afford. you prove the point that the player makes the gear, not the other way around
Dave, when you do things for others with no expectations sooner or later you will get noticed. You shouldn’t feel strange because people are giving you things. You are deserving of them. You are doing a great service to us the “people of the tube.” I have learned so much from you. I’m 63 years old and you have inspired me to get back to my guitar journey. You deserve all the good things that come your way. Success with Red Giant and everything else. Thanks Dave.
Dave, again a superior demo of this amp. I do have to say that some of the effects ( like delay on the solo mode already exists on the MK, in BTS) but now with the knob on the panel it is much better. Leaves us for the great awaiting of a comparison between your MK Artsist and this GEN3 Artist in the same settings. I guess a lot of us are awaiting this from you .
Great unboxing. Wonderful playing also. Sounds amazing-so many options. Nice piece of kit. Looking forward to your full review. Thanks for posting. Tempted to order one and plug it into my MK2 in stereo expand mode. “Stereo Surround Sound.”
Dave you work so hard to enlighten us with these videos. Great complete review. You always put a smile on my face. I hope that soon you will have a smile on your face permanently. Hope that all your future Saturdays are fantastic!
I reckon I love it too Dave; so much that I ordered mine yesterday! Complete with the bluetooth adapter and the GA-FC EX foot controller! I can't wait! Boss should put you on their payroll! 😁🤘🎸
I personally believe the Katana Artist combos are the best amps ever made. Period. I have dozens and dozens of tube amps and tube and SS combo amps. None of them on their own even compare the the Katana Artist amps. And that Waza speaker is unreal. I got a dual Waza cab also for some of my tube amp heads. Only thing you need to make it the end all, be all amp is. The BOSS GAFC-EX control pedal. It’s a must.
Nice one, David. Thank you kindly for this latest review on the Boss Katana 3 Combo mate. Your reviews are awesome and amazing but straight in at the Deep End! And real easy to understand. You very quickly navigate your way through an item really quickly, without any confusion showcasing all of its features. For all us UA-cam Watchers.
Hi Dave. Just watched this. Ordered mine minutes later. I’ve loved my Katanas over the years including my current Mk2 100w but so much about the new Artist appeals to me. As someone that also keeps being bitterly disappointed by the world of modellers I’m firmly a Katana guy. And proudly so.
Your emotional state really shows through the way you play guitar. It's haunting, mesmerizing, beautiful. Thank you for sharing your amazing talent with us. I could listen to you noodling away on a guitar for days. Appreciate you man!
You the best Dave! Love watching ur channel and everything you do! If it wasn't for you I'd dropped guitar playing awhile ago...defintly a inspiration you are
Oh, wow, that thing looks amazing! I also got a new amp, a Marshall MG15DFX, it sounds and plays amazing! I have been waiting for 20 years to get an MG series amp, I never ended up getting one because I had the Crate GFX-1200H, which I still have, and then the first gen wasn't produced anymore, and those are the ones I wanted. Solid State amps get a bad rep for no reason these days, the complaints you hear are just people echoing the complaints of the first Solid State amps that came our, they solved those issues right away with the 2nd gen of Solid State amps in the late 1960's or early 1970's. Same with digital modeling amps, I have a Fender G-Dec 30 1st gen amp, and if you just use the amp models with a little reverb it sounds awesome. Same with the Roland Micro-Cube amp, another modeler that is severely underrated.
I bought the g15rcd in combo mode (w-guitar, cable, etc.) 23 years ago and I still use that almost everyday to this day. They even wanted to buy that one from me the two times that I left it for repairs at a small musical instruments shop/workshop 😅 I said "no way!" Even though it has a pretty standard, entry level, cheap speaker, it sounds good for cleans and great for distortions. I will never part with that, probably just change to the best speaker I can ever find that suits it. And the MOSFET ones from the 80s are even better!
Way back I had the MG100DFX and always regretted selling it. Lo and behold, the other month I walked into a studio for band practice and the venue had one just sat there. Gave me amazing feelings of nostalgia just seeing it. Enjoy your MG15!

Very good sounding amp and amazing playing. You are very gifted. All good gifts are from God. Praying for you to come out of the other side (you will)...
That sounds really effen good 🤘 Question tho: If one were to buy the 50 watt gen 3, which doesn't have the presence/resonance control or the bloom switch, would you be able to set those parameters in the Tone Studio?
Great demo❕I bought the Gen 3 Head because of your demo and because I got a great deal on a new BK cab. I wanted to look professional when appearing here in my living room 🙃. I bought the head to try out the little 5” speaker for practice and it’s just super. That combo is really fabulous. Maybe I’ll sell my Fender combos and get one of those. They don’t sound any better and have fewer effects. Can’t wait to see you demo that amp with your pedal board. I noticed you have a resonator guitar 🎸 that I’ve never seen you play. If you get in the mood I’d love 💕 to hear you play it since the early Delta acoustic blues is my favorite ❤️🔥 music 🎼. 👍☮️🌞🎸🎵
I'm glad you settled on a combo, and are enjoying the premium speaker upgrade. It's my understanding they're all based on Greenbacks. I'm still planning on trying some other speaker cones mixed in the Katana 212s I have. Like one V30 in each, and one factory katana cone. I'm convinced it would sound even better, especially for the chugga chugga stuff. Give the cab more range. They all sound great to me. But I'd love to see someone try some different speakers in a 212. Peace! .
Hi Dave, last week I watched an Anderton's video featuring a series of Halcyon drive pedals, in blue, yellow and green, emulating three classics, the Marshall Blues Breaker, the Klon Centaur and the Ibanez Tube Screamer, respectively. Do you think that you could get a Boss Katana amp (possibly in conjunction with your famous pedal board) to reproduce the sound of all these pedals?
Great playing as always Dave. Any plans on plugging it into some of your other cabs. Would be interested in hearing your views on what you prefer. The waza speaker or different speakers. Don't know if better getting the combo or head. And you deserve everything Boss gives you and much more. I'm surprised other companies haven't reached out to give you stuff to try out. Amazing guitarist Dave. keep it up.

Oh yes.
@@thedavesimpson Thanks Dave. You've just saved me £750 !! 🙂 By the way, Keira was stupendous in the clips from the Flying Circus concert.
Amazing guitarist Dave. keep it up.
Great video. Makes me want one really bad.
27m10: "Are they any better than the 100 or the 50....? they've got more features". You've simply got to admire Dave's honesty after being gifted this amplifier.
Love that sound at 13:40. Sounds huge and a killer riff too! Would love to hear that in a full song.
You Are Worthy!
At 10 minutes Dave is playing Hendrix's off the cuff riff at Woodstock , Dave therefore is a legend for being able to replicate that 👍
You should do a full review of this amp, best settings and all that. Just got one and haven’t seen a deep dive yet on UA-cam about it.
