Viewers tuned in for entertainment, but also for instruction and insight.
    The series aired successively over the CBS, ABC, and NBC networks, consistently attracted 16 million viewers to each episode, and won more than 65 awards, including nine Emmys and two Peabody awards.

      What a wonderfully talented man he was. James Cagney was the right guy to portray him! I was too young to know George M. But I feel I know him after watching Yankee Doddle Dandy. His music will live on long after all of us are gone.

      Yes. This was an episode of "Omnibus" which aired in 1959.
