This looks like just the video I need. My grandfather just gave me a clock like this that needs plenty of polishing. He swore it works though I would say it's not been wound for at least 3 decades. It's dusty and looks seized up, so I hope I can get it moving again. The spring is definitely still doing it's job but winding doesn't get anything moving just yet. Is there any chance you could post a list of your tools so that I can get them ready in advance and follow along carefully?
If the mainspring is ok then you'll only need basic tools to dismatle the clock. You'll see in the video I have to repair the mainspring so that was the only specialist tool I used. A set of small flat head screwdrivers will be useful. I use an ultrasonic to clean the parts but you can do this by hand.
You definitely need the below: - Clock oil - Washing Up Liquid and Amonia for ultrasonic solution (1 part to 7 parts water). You can use lighter fluid if you do it by hand with a toothbrush. - 99% Alcohol - Hairdryer to dry all the parts.
I hope you have found the video helpful. Please like and subscribe to the channel to help us grow
