Tape up the paint when sanding the headlamps, or use a smaller sander. I heard the sander hitting the panels a few times. Or take the headlamps out and then sand and polish them. No need to reduce paint layers unnecessarily.
That is a possibility, but I didn’t see big scratches on the plastic cover and I would think that the damage would be on the bottom not the front. Regardless, it’s definitely weird.
Alex one thing to keep in mind the ABS issue can be caused by a faulty door handle (I know sounds crazy but super common) The fuse that powers all 4 door comfort access handles also powers the DSC module (its a 5amp circuit) I see the DSC module is physically damaged but I would check that fuse to see if its blown and disconnect all the door harnesses (to prevent the shorted handle from blowing the fuse) and see if the DSC will start communicating. A quick test would be to see if the comfort access is working at all!
The handles not shorted. Its the module. My mother did it when she ran the car into a bunch of small trees. It was a tree branch that smacked it.I never replaced it.
I can't speak for others but personally, I'd like to see the water infiltration in the trunk dried up and properly cleaned out. That's basically just labor. Alex, I own a 2011 Alpina B7 here in McKinney, TX. Mine has about 117K on the odometer and it is as nice a car as you will find. I have owned this car for many years now and as 10+ year old car I still get comments almost every time I am out and about. I have been thru all of the typical issues with the N63 engine (CCP from BMW) where they replaced the valve guides to stop the oil consumption and it no longer uses any oil. One thing I wanna call your attention to is the aux turbo coolant pump you were getting issues on. If I recall correctly there was a recall on those and if your car VIN was in a certain range then they replaced it for free. Mine was doing the exact same thing yours is doing yet mine was not in the recall range. Replaced it and no longer have the issue. One other thing to look at when you get everything dry in the back trunk area, there's a fuel pressure module that goes bad without any water intrusion or other factors. I replaced high pressure fuel pumps, low pressure pump in the gas tank and all along it was this dang $150.00 module. The issue was during the summer months when it would get hot, it would internally shut down and the car would die. I mean right dead in the middle of the road. Let it cool down and it would run again. Just keep an eye out for that module and I recall it being located on the passenger side under the cover where the battery is located.

Alex, I used your code to get 15% off a Carly! And I upgraded my Carly to the every car option. I can't wait for it to arrive. Gas in my area is averaging $6.29 and Diesel is over $7.00 a gallon.
Only 4400 miles passed the service date. That's honestly pretty low for a 7 series, it's usually closer to 10-15k. Like somehow that more expensive the car gets, the less the maintenance gets done. Just buy a Buick 3800 if you're gonna treat it like shit.
If you have an expensive car, it's more likely to not be the only one in the garage so if you don't keep up with the maintenance you can always jump into another one in the stable. If you have a cheap car, it's most likely the _only_ car you have and if it craps out, you're screwed so you're probably gonna keep up with the maintenance to keep from being stranded.

The F01 Alpina B7 biturbo was officially rated at 507hp bc the v12 from BMW was 544hp. All the B7s actually have a lot more power like in the 540 to 580 range.
I agree with you, the people who check that car gave up without even trying, thank you for sharing your knowledge, we need more channels like yours to learn something and not waste our times!
i love how it looks 🥵 Agressive Limo. ONLY one thing i dont like is that i noticed that the automatic is not a 2TB sport trans, wich the shifter looks different and you have no paddels. It looks like the standard 205 auto. I think this car deserves a retrofit 2TB

Definitely worth saving. See if you can find a used DSC module. I rebuilt a flooded e93 and ended up replacing almost all the modules in the car. Many parts are interchangeable between different models of BMWs and they're straightforward to program yourself. I'd look for a parts car a junkyard and buy the modules for cheap
Great video Alex! Small side note :) The Alpina engine is based on the BMW N63 engine not the S63 (which as different exhaust manifolds and some other changes vs the N63).
You're right on that point. Literature describes the changes as custom forged crank, special forged pistons and rods, but nothing else except engine management computer changes for the larger turbos and fuel needs.
@@GoldenCroc it’s easy to do on cheaper cars but on a 7 series I tend to agree. Unless it just didn’t fit and the PO tried to force it. But then we are still talking about them acting like a chimp
Great episode! I think you saved Sam's butt on this one. When you did that wet sanding on the headlights, you should have taken it to some of those scratches in the paint. That's what it's going to take to have any chance of repairing them. Obviously, the risk is going through the clear, but it is what it is. Lastly, I find that headlights won't stay clear unless you do some kind of clear coat after sanding and buffing.
I bought a alpina b7 last year! Got a good 7 months of fun out of it and then the engine went boom from oil consumption after the tune, turbo upgrades, downpipe , cat delete, and insurance covered it and all the added parts I had insured . With that being said the car was a blast to drive and modify, as it has tons of power and the tune made this car wake up even more! I got mine for 8k because the sellers/owners (female owned) didn't know what she had, or she took good care of it and wanted out of the payments(BY THE WAY THOSE TV'S IN THE REAR ARE ACTUALLY FACTORY FROM ALPINA as I HAD THOSE IN MINE as WELL and FULL ENTERTAINMENT PACKAGE), but nonetheless, I used the insurance money and went back and bought me another merc, this time I got the 2004 CL 55 amg and have been modding this thing like crazy. Previously owned a E55 amg so I always loved the m113k engine platform especially for performance mods, but I am hoping one day I can get me the E63 amg 2012 and up model as I am a merc guy specifically amg guy (besides my swapped ls6 methanol roots blown 4th gen z28 of course) my amg's are my family car's and my camaro is my solo fun car for cash nights. My wife has a c63 amg s that she got as a anniversary gift so now she sees what we see in amg's! Happy wife happy life especially since now she wants to modify hers with headers and full exhaust with intake and tune.... she even wants to pops and bangs added so for me as a car guy being able to have my wife enjoy my passion now too is just one more thing I am so pumped on. She is now my best friend for life and is getting involved in road racing as well. Anyways enough about me, hope all works out for your buddy's alpina and just have him continously check and maintain the oil level each month if he mods it or drives it hard because those engines are oil thirsty and don't want him to kaboom his engine
Probably picked up with forks at the auction lot, since they said it wouldn't run/drive it may have been how they loaded it onto the transporter's trailer.
Alex, your experience at identifying eccentric German electrical gremlins is as amazing a your electrical problem solving abilities. And you only had this car for ONE DAY!?!?!? Now that's really satisfying!! LoL.. Looks like a great candidate for one good quick flip. Great work. Terrific video.
As always your doing great, I think the Alpina needs a rear window a buff job and send it on its way before history proves to be correct and that BMW/BUMPED UP Alpina grenades itself. it's a shame looks like a fun car.
100% agreed on shippers. The past few I've dealt with have all been absolutely horrible. And listed as running and driving doesn't even mean that half the time. I've seen cars listed that way missing 2 wheels along with suspension damage
Beautiful Alpina!!!! Great color also. Definately key revival, I was keyed also and would love to see how it would be corrected on a budget. You should definately consider having your corroded modules cleaned they can easily be done at a fraction of the cost. I had several with similar issues in my Volvo . I used the XeModex guy's you could do a collab with them and actually Elliot Alvis also used them.
My whole car was destroyed by a meth addict after it was repainted..That B7 is wearing a 12k paint job on top of 8k in New parts after it was wrecked. I hope he fixes it correctly. I did love that car.
🙈terrible to hear, actually painful!!! Did you let Alex know? He would love to know. Alex will definitely take care of the putting the car back to the original state. He found the cover to the ABS was cracked, someone wrote that it probably happened trying to jack the car in the wrong place.
2:24 I've got a 2003 Buick Lesabre that a shop wanted $350 to replace the oil pressure sending unit.. Took me and a friend all of about 30 minutes to do the work myself. That is why cars get like this. The sending unit costs like $30 and the oil/filter was about $40... I realize people have to make money, but damn..
I remember 10 years ago my buddy was picking up his new 3 series and the dealer was also an alpina dealer. His 3 series was delivered along with a B7. I remember the salesman letting us check it out and the customer had ordered it with an ostrich headliner. It was crazy. Beautiful cars.
I had a similar situation on a BMW X5M with Dinan S1. I'd take DeOxit to all connector contacts. It now has zero codes. Seems like your ALpina is down on at least 2 cylinders. Probably a voltage issue. Definitely do the rod bearings ASAP
Love the "Brake system, drive moderately" message on the dash as you create a rubber donut cloud. Not a Beemer fan, but this one is an eye catcher. Thanks, Alex. Always fun. 🚘
The little hand looks racoonish to me judging from mud prints I have seen. A 2011 car is not too old and 100K miles may be too much for this car but is not high, probably was bought by someone with no credit and abandon for mechanical reasons. Would be interesting if a cleaned-up scratch could be filled with clear coat touch up paint and buffed where it is less noticeable.
I'll answer your question dumb ass.I have plenty of credit.A meth addict stole the car when it was I'm storage and did this to it...The car had new paint on it just before this happened..Alex is going to find out real quick how hard thst paint is to fix considering the car has a film over the paint that needs to be removed first and it was applied right after the car was baked just after it was sprayed.
My "secret ingredient" for headlight correction is Meguiars Plastx. It's a plastic conditioner and extremely fine abrasive. I would bet good money it would make a noticeable improvement in both headlights. When I use it, I apply it by hand with a standard wax applicator or microfiber towel, and buff it, by hand, with a clean microfiber towel.
Such an awesome find! Love this car. Seems like a burnout machine, must have tons of power. Please do another video trying to get the key marks out of the paint. Also include the back window replacement. Would love to find a gem like this!!!
The trunk being full of water thing is reminding me of every E93 auction car I've ever seen....including mine. The trunk seals go and then the battery well and amp well both get full of water super fun :)
There is a pretty good way to tell if a scratch will buff out. Spray water on the scratch. If it seems to disappear when wet then it is a surface scratch in the clear coat and can be sanded down (3000 wet followed by 5000 wet) and then buffed with compound and polished.
wet sand the scratches first and then polish. Plus you need more aggressive pad and you could really make it look almost gone. They didn't come out horribly with what you did but a little wet sanding and more aggressive pad/polish would do wonders.
These have always been one of my dream cars specifically this generation with this color and these wheels although I wouldn’t have black interior. I would settle for a this generation 7 series with m sport package if I had the money
Hey bmw tech here with some cool info. Those fancy fasteners in the rear trunk are not an Alpina only thing. And n63s and s63s do have dipsticks. Our 6 and 4 cylinders don’t have dipsticks. And this Alpina does not have an S63. Heard you say it once it’s just a hand built n63
Alex, a detailer I know filled the scratches with clear coat. He used a small brush & filled in the scratches then buffed it out. Worked since the color under the clear coat was not damaged.

Alex, I used your code to get 15% off a Carly! And I upgraded my Carly to the every car option. I can't wait for it to arrive. Gas in my area is averaging $6.29 and Diesel is over $7.00 a gallon.
Best regards from South Finland - 9,11USD per gallon (Diesel).
7USD per gallon would be regular price ;)
Alex it’s not a S63 engine …it’s a N63 engine with different internals and turbos…just replace spark plugs and coil packs
Yup s63 is in the m5 m6 and x6m/5m
Same issues with valve seals if not worse..the reason I got rid of the F10 550. After the dealer stating that 200mph per quart of oil is normal.
@@paulsolovyovsky1702 Lol you would think that they learned their lesson from the n62 but nope. Same issues with n63 and s63.
I am so excited ! I'm 4.52 in and I can't wait... Made my Sunday morning. Putting on a coffee. Back with you all soon . Steve Brisbane Australia
Exactly!!
@@danielseelye6005 Just don't buy a car if you can't take care of it. next you're gonna say its okay to let your child sit in its shit for hours because you have another child that you gotta take to the park.
@@tag206 The car was stolen without me knowing..Go read some of the first few top liked comments to find out what happened..I've typed enough alresdy..I took VERY good care of that car.
@@Dave-ur5ub did you just randomly see this video and notice it was your car? That's pretty crazy. Looks like you got yourself into a nice mustang tho, probably a better car in the long run lol
I just fall in love with this car, i definitely put a back glass i just use it as it is besides giving back to the auction. But surely this car can be reasonably fixed with used parts and became a perfect daily (a really great one), no more comments, just love you alpina ❤️
maybe a wet sand on the scratches? would love to see a revival video of the paint
It's my old car..The paint has a protective film specific to this cars on it..The paint can't just be wet sanded ..I just had the car painted in winter of 2015/2016 after it was fixed from when my mother wrecked it.
Nice Alpina. regarding the modules, it worth to open them and clean all with IPA including the connectors and sometimes they come back. And yes we want to see what the detailing guys can do to it.
I can't believe you buffed those headlights without taping around it!
Great work Alex. Personally I would love a full detail of the inside and paint restoration.
M539 Restorations is an all BMW guy he is currently rebuilding the B7 engine . Could definitely help cut down on the diagnostics.
Great video
Yes. I wanna see an el cheapo paint correction. You did a good job still, Alex.
i love how it looks 🥵 Agressive Limo. ONLY one thing i dont like is that i noticed that the automatic is not a 2TB sport trans, wich the shifter looks different and you have no paddels. It looks like the standard 205 auto. I think this car deserves a retrofit 2TB
I bought Carly on your recommendation & I have a 2015 E class mercedes! Mercedes don't allow any coding changes via Carly only code reading & resetting!
I appreciate you wouldn't get as many sales or support from Carly but it would be fair to you viewers !
Ian from UK 🇬🇧
Carly itself states optimal coding capabilities on BMW-group vehicles.. other brands it isn't fully guaranteed
They probably put a jack under the car and damaged the module.
smart
No it was a tree branch from when my mother wrecked it...Seriously.
@@Dave-ur5ub was that your alpina?
@@JDJD-mw9rr Yea. If you go look at some of the top liked comments on here you'll see what happened.
@@Dave-ur5ub interesting, every car has a story lol
Great video Alex! Small side note :) The Alpina engine is based on the BMW N63 engine not the S63 (which as different exhaust manifolds and some other changes vs the N63).
You're right on that point. Literature describes the changes as custom forged crank, special forged pistons and rods, but nothing else except engine management computer changes for the larger turbos and fuel needs.
When your front air vent are broken especially a BMW 7 series that was built to last interior wise, you know the previous owner was a coke head.
Could be one of those vent phone mounts...
@@SavedbyHim that too
@@SavedbyHim Never seen one break from that, doubt it easily happens unless one is a total chimp when using it.
@@GoldenCroc it’s easy to do on cheaper cars but on a 7 series I tend to agree. Unless it just didn’t fit and the PO tried to force it. But then we are still talking about them acting like a chimp
@@ALittleBitOfGay Yep, but there sure is a lot of "chimp acting" around these days it seems, so all in all I guess you are more right then wrong.
Indeed, it has to be fixed correctly and enjoyed for years to come!
29:20 probably improperly jacked it up and crushed it?
Probably picked up with forks at the auction lot, since they said it wouldn't run/drive it may have been how they loaded it onto the transporter's trailer.
Could the ABS module have been damaged form picking the car up with the fork lift that moves non running cars around around the salvage lot?
36:56 Fun fact buddy if you pop the hood you don’t end up scratching the hood when buffing the lights….
It did hurt me that he didn't use tape if he's not going to spend the time to remove the headlights first lol
Yes please do a complete restore. I love Alpinas!
Great job Alex, The Alpina is going to be a really nice car once some TLC is applied to the interior and the paint.
So sad to see a beast like that, having fallen so far... hope you can bring it back, Alex!
Yes plz paint correction an coating
It was mine incase you're not picking up on what I'm saying.
🙈terrible to hear, actually painful!!! Did you let Alex know? He would love to know. Alex will definitely take care of the putting the car back to the original state. He found the cover to the ABS was cracked, someone wrote that it probably happened trying to jack the car in the wrong place.
@@faustp23 It was a tree branch
@@faustp23 And yes I let him know what happened to the car
I hate to live in cars in this condition with the owners careless to fix them so thank you for doing God’s work for this car
I love how this thing used almost a quarter tank of fuel in just 16miles
This will be a very satisfying resto. DON'T STOP PLEASE!
I had a similar situation on a BMW X5M with Dinan S1. I'd take DeOxit to all connector contacts. It now has zero codes. Seems like your ALpina is down on at least 2 cylinders. Probably a voltage issue.
Definitely do the rod bearings ASAP
Yes on rod bearing
I hate who doesn't take care of these beautiful cars. Thanks for saving her ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Sreten has left the chat...
😂
Love the "Brake system, drive moderately" message on the dash as you create a rubber donut cloud. Not a Beemer fan, but this one is an eye catcher. Thanks, Alex. Always fun. 🚘
Never knew Alpina had liquid cooled batteries 🤣
Welcome to the BMW world brother! What a beautiful genuine Alpina. Super rare! My M6 has been fun so far!
100,000 miles is nothing on a 12 year old 7 series/B7. That’s less than 10K a year on a car built solely for purpose of driving distances comfortably.
The last thing the deadbeat owner did before the car was repoed was to google "What broken window would cause the most water damage on my Alpina?"
Such an awesome find! Love this car. Seems like a burnout machine, must have tons of power. Please do another video trying to get the key marks out of the paint. Also include the back window replacement. Would love to find a gem like this!!!
If I was Sam, I'd let Alex fix this car completely. But then again, a working car might not have a place on his chicken farm.
Sam could let Alex use his lift... Oh wait...
Yes Alex. A cheap paint/rescue video on the B7 would be a great video!! Yes!!
The trunk being full of water thing is reminding me of every E93 auction car I've ever seen....including mine. The trunk seals go and then the battery well and amp well both get full of water super fun :)
Beautiful car, great work Alex,Sam has a really nice ride. Do the budget build.
Definitely do a budget car touch up fix. Great idea.
There is a pretty good way to tell if a scratch will buff out. Spray water on the scratch. If it seems to disappear when wet then it is a surface scratch in the clear coat and can be sanded down (3000 wet followed by 5000 wet) and then buffed with compound and polished.
I’d love to see the cheap paint fix plus the flip numbers after fixing the ABS, trunk latch, maybe the stereo. Not “mint” but good or good enuf.
I would love to see this thing get a full restoration! It definitely deserves it even though these engines aren’t the most reliable lol.
100% want to see a budget paint correction for all those scratches.....the car is gorgeous. It deserves it.
wet sand the scratches first and then polish. Plus you need more aggressive pad and you could really make it look almost gone. They didn't come out horribly with what you did but a little wet sanding and more aggressive pad/polish would do wonders.
Go for it Alex! An Alpena is a rare car. It deserves a new life.
These have always been one of my dream cars specifically this generation with this color and these wheels although I wouldn’t have black interior. I would settle for a this generation 7 series with m sport package if I had the money
So class, what have we learned today? Samcrac owes Alex BIG TIME!! Solid work man, solid.
Looking forward to both of my favorite euro car guys on UA-cam doing B7 projects at the same time!
Seeing you be able to code the car with Carly was enough to convince me to invest in one
I just replaced the dash and curtain airbags on an alpina exactly like this, just in a dark gray color. They’re sooo comfortable to drive!
This man is so knowledgeable. Excellent video! I wish he was living in my state, he would help me fixing the my mix firing 2010 bmw 750li.
Alex, a detailer I know filled the scratches with clear coat. He used a small brush & filled in the scratches then buffed it out. Worked since the color under the clear coat was not damaged.
I love the comment about BMWs shipping from the factory with 6-7 trouble codes.
