99.99% of population in the Chancay agree with the new port. You had to walk a lot searching for the 0.01% for your interview. Today the whole town gathered at the main square being part of the inauguration of the Port.

Interesting how the report focuses only on production near the new port as potential export products from Peru. It fails to mention how the port will draw products from all over the region to be exported throught his port. As an example, Brazil will be one of main export countries that will be using this port and many of the imports coming through this port will go to the whole region.
I would like to say that this report is badly researched, but I guess I know better...

It can be. Here is an example
China's investment in Greece's Piraeus Port by COSCO Shipping totals €368.5 million for a 67% ownership stake (€280.5 million for 51% in 2016 and €88 million for an additional 16% in 2021). COSCO also committed €300 million for infrastructure upgrades.
In terms of financial performance, the port reported €70 million in net profits for the first nine months of 2024, with total revenues of €174.9 million, reflecting its strong operational success. This investment has positioned Piraeus as a leading European port and a strategic node in China's Belt and Road Initiative It also created 1 to 2 thousand jobs locally.

However, the US does not like it and will try to sanction Brazil,Because they know that China's real intention is to get closer to South America, especially Brazil.

Not only is China guaranteeing the survival of socialism, more importantly, the CPC/PRC is demonstrating to the world how a modernised socialism is an increasingly attractive model for other countries - especially developing countries, to consider adopting. During what could arguably be the most challenging period of human development, 'Socialism with Chinese characteristics' is proving to be a very adaptable and most progressive form of governance.

The SCMP doing its best to talk-down and put a negative spin on the opening of Chancay Port.
A port by itself is only a 1st step. This is plain for everyone with half a brain (and not incentivized to put out pro-US propaganda) to see. Roads and Rail will be necessary. There're already plans between Brazil, China and Peru to build a TransOceanic Railway from Brazil's Atlantic Coast to Chancay. And this could be part of a larger network of rail including other South American Countries. Goods, Farm Produce, Mineral Ores, and eventually, manufactured goods can be transported via this Rail system to Chancay and shipped out across the Pacific to markets in Asia. This was NEVER available to South American countries ever before. Of course, it requires South America to invest in education and training its people, rid itself of corruption and maligned external influence (from its Northern neighbour). This is South America's opportunity to industrialize and break out of the low-income trap it finds itself in for the last half a century, being only able to export Ore and farm produce. A golden age could be beckoning for countries willing to invest in its people, build the necessary infrastructure (China can help), and really improve the lives of millions on the Continent.
You don't have to be an economist to see this.

It is not China's responsibility to seize opportunities for local communities. It is the responsibility of local governments to seize these opportunities and use them to develop the region's social infrastructure. This is a historical problem in our region because there has always been this difficulty in the state allocating the necessary resources. The people here still do not understand and still do not sufficiently support state investment. Our development is greatly opposed by American media companies that manipulate our people into thinking that state investment is bad.
