I am a vinyl nut. This album was decent. However, when this song came on I was overawed. A truly pathotic song. In a similar effect ABBA's 'Dancing Queen', (or if you haven't had the joy of hearing it) The Monkees 'Me and Magdalena'
Performances like this make me wonder why I don't dedicate every Friday night to just sitting in my living room with my lights dimly lit watching amazing live performances like this:)
I keep coming back to this performance all these years later. I have grown and changed so much since I heard this so many years ago. But it still touches my soul just the same. I'll keep coming back to this beautiful performance for as long as I can.
this song was the only thing helping me through the death of my grandpa and it still gives me the chills and makes me cry so much. justin is a genius and such an amazing soul, im glad to have his music guiding me through life.
If theres any other musician who deserves the nobel prize its bon iver. The man has written pieces so cripplingly emotional i cant help but sob like a child. I could never do what he has, and im content with that.
*If I could only listen to four songs for the rest of my life this will always be one of them.*This is perfect for any day.As a mc that also writes poetry and rnb I recently have been trying to write music of this genre.I can honestly say I will never write something this heartfelt. It kills me that singers(Like Beyonce,Justin Bieber, and Chris Brown) that don't write get more attention than Justin Vernon.Bon Iver is in my top three greatest of all time!!MUSIC LIKE THIS SAVES LIVES!!!! It's no coincidence I just heard this last year 7 months exactly after my grandfather(Basically my father, he raised me with my grandmother and mother) died.Four days after my first Christmas without the only other best friend I've had since birth besides my grandmother.*If you never come back to do music I hope you find peace and have a blessed journey*...*for the peace you've given us*...*and the blessing you've been*. *EVERY WORD YOU HAVE SAID AND EVERY CHORD YOU HAVE PLAYED WILL OUTLIVE ALL THE SORROW AND REGRET OF THE WORLD!* *#TRUELOVENEVERDIES*
Why you got to bag out other singers tho? they all started from the bottom and got where they are through hard work, and sticking to a genre that gets attention. Indie music such as this is a genre listened to by a select few. So comparing this to pop music is dumb as the latter are obviously going to get more attention; hence the reason they call it pop/popular.
Bryan Sanchez it may seem dumb to you but the difference in genre doesn't justify the lack in quality content. at the end of the day I'm "bagging them out" as you say because they didn't write most of their material. As an artist that is the hardest part. And no where did I say they didn't work hard. I simply said the quality in certain groups and artist such as this is much better..but doesn't get appreciated half as much. Be blessed
Most of the time when I listen to a particular artist or song, like I do with Bon Iver (Re: Stacks, Holocene), over and over again it's because they make me feel good. I'm not sure Bon Iver fits that though. I mostly tear up and feel like a vulnerable bowl of jelly when I listen. I can't explain it, but I can't stop listening. Which I suppose is sort of what it's all about.
Sometimes music really gives you goosebumps that seem to creep up to your ears, makes your hair stand up and just touches your heart in the gentlest way.
I'm so jealous that you got to see this live. Re: Stacks wasn't played in the gig I went to, however I'm probably being greedy, they treat us with For Emma and Brackett, Wi which was awesome.
A lot of musicians will alter songs when they play live, but it's not because they can't play it the way they recorded it. It's mainly because they play it in a unique way especially for their audience at the time, almost like a special gift just for them. When you're so in the moment that you get lost in your music, you sing how you feel, not how other think you should. There's a version on here with a good ex of this. Re: Stacks BOA Pavilion 9.13.2012 Notice at the end the crowd's response.
This my excavation and today is kumran Everything that happens from now on This is pouring rain This is paralyzed On your back with your racks as the stacks are your load. This album on vinyl is what the heart openly beating to the truth sounds like. Tears and a heaviness in my chest, every time.
This my excavation and to Day is Qumran Everything that happens is from now on This is pouring rain This is paralyzed I keep throwing it down, two Hundred at a time It's hard to find it when you knew it When your money's gone And you're drunk as hell On your back with your racks as he stacks your load In the back with the racks and he stacks your load In the back with the racks and you're unstacking your load I've been twisting to the sun I needed to replace And the fountain in the front yard is rusted out All my love was down In a frozen ground There's a black crow sitting across from me His wiry legs are crossed He's dangling my keys, he even fakes a toss Whatever could it be That has brought me to this loss? On your back with your racks as he stacks your load In the back with the racks and he stacks your load In the back with the racks and you're unstacking your load This is not the sound of a new man Or a crispy realization It's the sound of me unlocking and you lift away Your love will be Safe with me
ps : I agree, when I read it again, that my first respond to the guy who didn't like Bon Iver's performance was kind of hard, not really nice, and untrue. But with all the nowadays commercial music, I felt like a guardian of those rare artists like Bon Iver and It bothered me that someone criticized him without arguments, and without hearing the true talent of that singer. I wanted to explain that to him, and I clearly failed when I wrote my kinda angry answer. I admit my mistake
So you start with: "I was about to take time to argue..." and then proceed to argue a point. Have you always been a hypocrite? And "funny guy"? It's always an answer from someone under normalcy bias and learned helplessness. I wasn't being "funny"; I was making a simple, yet correct point. And it still stands. Knowing how to play music has nothing to do with understanding if a song is good or not.
You just don't get the meaning of what music is. And here we are talking about real, beautiful, emotionnally strong and inspirationnal music. Don't blame Justin Vernon or blame every artist on this planet!
I don't get it. His time is perfect, he drops a beat here and there but that's pretty obviously a creative choice. It's a musicality thing, just listen to old blues records. As a professional musician, I gotta warn you that nitpicking technical aspects of music like that is going to prevent you from seeing the forest for the trees
I'd like to thank the crowd for being silent throughout. It made the performance that much more special.
Paris crowds=best crowds ;)
The Frenchs.
Absolutely!
Welcome to France
One of the most beautiful songs ever written, in one of the most beautiful renditions ever. So fragile, so emotional, so musical...
It's hauntingly beautiful

@@mattlee5523 yes the Monkees definitely!
what a magical group of people that gathered to listen to his performance in silence... it made the whole thing even more special
I just love how the crowd's silent throughout.
Yes. I agree.
Someone hurt this man. I feel the tears he cried.
It was some chick called Emma, but it was forever ago
Wes Ambler Such a good comment. 😭
no
I can hear those tears hitting the hard tarmac of time.
Haha “You have been hurt.. that much is clear. Who hurt you.. who hurt you!?”
It's the sound of the unlocking and the lift away

I do!
Amen mate. A beverage or two doesn't go astray either.
I'm having early Sunday morning coffee sessions for miracles such as this.
I keep coming back to this performance all these years later. I have grown and changed so much since I heard this so many years ago. But it still touches my soul just the same. I'll keep coming back to this beautiful performance for as long as I can.
Me too
Me too, this is incredible
"been rusted out....all my love was down.....in a frozen ground". So many can relate to this.....for sure.
Such great lyricism.
Such a delicate song, such a great musician, true beauty.
this song was the only thing helping me through the death of my grandpa and it still gives me the chills and makes me cry so much. justin is a genius and such an amazing soul, im glad to have his music guiding me through life.

That little bit of soul he adds in. Just lets himself loose a little bit. You are so brilliant.
If theres any other musician who deserves the nobel prize its bon iver. The man has written pieces so cripplingly emotional i cant help but sob like a child. I could never do what he has, and im content with that.
his name is Justin Vernon

Beautifully perforrmed and equally beautifully observed by the audience
Truly the deepest song I have ever hear. so much emotion is in this quiet, quiet song.
This is so fucking beautiful.
This is a perfect rainy day or going to sleep relaxing song this is just freaking great.
Man all I want is to go to a Bon Iver concert and cry my eyes out.
Happy to report that I did it.
This song is so perfect

great crowd, the silence adds so much
throughout my life, I have needed this music, I am truly thankful for the existence of this man. what a great video

"I feel like a vulnerable bowl of jelly" 👌
I feel the exact same way with the exact same songs ✨
Go watch him do skinny love on later with jools holland. “Who the hell was I?”
Les larmes et les frissons à chaque écoute ...
Songs like these and performances like these are why I love music. Thanks Justin.
I Love This Song So Much
That ending. God damn.
The best version of my favourite song. I cry everytime I listen to it.
So does Justin. You can see the tears falling off his face.
I saw Bon Iver last night 4.3.22 and it was easily the greatest concert I have ever attended!
"This is not the sound of a new man, or a crispy realisation". Always gets me.
I could listen to the beginning guitar riff over and over again, so mesmerising
So painful to watch yet so beautiful, we need more artist like this.
Sometimes music really gives you goosebumps that seem to creep up to your ears, makes your hair stand up and just touches your heart in the gentlest way.
Goosebumps all over
my favorite live performance ever
This man has gifts that keep on giving!!@mazing talent " For Emma Long Ago" is my absolute favorite album!
Enchanting
I really needed this version of the song today. His voice is the only thing that calms me down when I get upset/ angry are the world.
que Homem, God, eu tô chorando muito...
Goosebumps. Every single time.
Some people read before bedtime, I listen to Bon Iver everynight for at least 4 years, so yeah, I’m responsable for at least 1200 views of this video

This song, and this live version... ouch it hurts.
Thanks for posting this, what a magical performance ... from Justin and the Crowd
this is beautiful. if you don't appreciate this, I don't want to know you.
Agree
So in love with this performance, the acoustics and silence!!! God bless🌎
Eine tiefgreifende Inspiration, Danke Bon Iver
The bad part of the song is when it ended
So very beautiful, love this!
I still can't get over that night. Magical...
God the acoustics in this!!! Would have given alot to have been there!!

amazing artist.........give us the 3rd album!!!!
Anyone else notice the tears falling from his face throughout the song?
it’s his sweat falling!
@@bethanylalala eye sweat
You may be right Idk though 🤔😂 😉 It’s a pretty physically laborious song to perform, so … just sayin
Sick footage
I feel his tears
This is a great video!
Yes.

Day is Qumran
Everything that happens is from now on
This is pouring rain
This is paralyzed
I keep throwing it down, two
Hundred at a time
It's hard to find it when you knew it
When your money's gone
And you're drunk as hell
On your back with your racks as he stacks your load
In the back with the racks and he stacks your load
In the back with the racks and you're unstacking your load
I've been twisting to the sun
I needed to replace
And the fountain in the front yard is rusted out
All my love was down
In a frozen ground
There's a black crow sitting across from me
His wiry legs are crossed
He's dangling my keys, he even fakes a toss
Whatever could it be
That has brought me to this loss?
On your back with your racks as he stacks your load
In the back with the racks and he stacks your load
In the back with the racks and you're unstacking your load
This is not the sound of a new man
Or a crispy realization
It's the sound of me unlocking and you lift away
Your love will be
Safe with me
Remember me DR. HOUSE MD scene, when Amber slowly die, perfect song for this scene.
The 9 people disliking this have never known true love.
His talking voice is so different from his singing voice.
This version sounds like its own version of a hymn
