good job Bro! man those side slips to kill speed were insane! You guys are at the beginning of an awesome new sport so rad you can say you were one of the first 100 pilots doing stol drag!
Jonas... thanks... for one of the few videos that gave us the perspective of the pilot while competing in the STOL drags... great! 👍 Well done as always.
Wicked cool man! Congrats on qualifying and putting on a great race in you stock plane. You've inspired me to chase my ultimate dream of becoming a pilot. Thanks for the great content!
Watching the STOL drags was really exciting. You jumped right in! Glad you were careful too. Hal and the other two were amazing to watch. That is by the seat of the pants flying.!
Watching these videos has really pushed me to continue getting my pilots license and learn how to fly a bush plane! Thank you for the motivation and keep it up with the awesome videos!
Man I'm proud of you! Nice job qualifying...that is some high skill stuff right there. Toby is a wild man! Who put NOS on a Cub?? Toby does. You know you have your wing tip close to the ground in a slip when the vortices off of the tip blows dust off the ground...he got his tips SO close. Sketchy maybe even...you have some competition there!! Really great video Jonas...thanks for sharing!
Awesome vid as always, Jonas! That event looks like my kind of party! ...and the racing! OMG! Thanks for bringing us along! Do you need bigger brakes or something? Just looked like that's where you lost time in the racing and not necessarily the lack of power. At 1:30 and 3:15 and you're pulling on them but lose ground on the stop and turn-around.
OMG! Going to Wagon Wheel or Cal City for the first time in about 8 years to ride. Can't wait for the head cold that will last a few months after eating dust like this.
The King of Sketchist Pilot on youtubes is none other than Jonas Marcinko! Wear that crown like the prince you are~,! Embrace it , Rock it! Put it on a tee shirt! Great edit on the vidwo by the way! Enjoyed it! Cheers!!!!!
This is amazing. I think I'm just wasting my life making money and getting ready for the future. There is a lot to be said for living your life like you do so well.
Jonas- I caught the STOLs at this years' Reno Races; one of the highlights for me and my dad. Gr8 new class! Super fun to watch. Now I want to see a pylon course you have to weave thru. 2nd Best Idea: Solo Wheel STOL Drags. Holding a beer.
I love how you fly with your right hand Jonas. Like a good aerobatic pilot. Right hand on the control stick and left hand on the throttle. The only way to fly.
Really liked your videoing how hard the wind was. The need to stay on the line and the wind lifting one side. It wasnt in any of Trent Palmer's vid. Nice to know Scott Palmer made it there. Trent didnt cover it very well.
SO- Jonas- have you developed a "safety protocol" for your future flying adventures yet (love those by the way_) I mean coolant cap check- fuel cap check- run up to avoid vapor lock- you know the usual stuff. SO- keep safe and keep flying
Jonas, you make some really cool videos, thank you. I was looking at some planes, and I couldn't figure out how how to put a mountain bike in a Kitfox, so I was carefully looking t a plane similar to yours but from South Carolina, with flaps. I see you have aa really cool downhill bike. Maybe you can make me change my mind if you can let me know how you carry your bike, or preferably 2 bikes, in your kitfox. I even flew a plane from Chilliwack that had a pair of bikes on racks under the wings, which was really cool, but it's takeoff and landing performance wasn't on par with these cloth covered planes. I want to be able to fly to places with really cool trails, since I live in a flat area, I have to travel far for that. Thanks!
And another great vid. It looks like you need to load that sled motor onto the front of the Kitfox. If that won't do it, I will throw in my Nitros bottle. That will get you up front, I think Steve is using them both already. Did the hot springs dust out them cob webs☺ you looked a little rough the first morning. One last request, can you give the next sponsor 90 seconds. I just want to see if dudes head pops off, WTH was that about? Have a good one Bud Keep your tanks full and your ads long. Thanks for the entertainment 👍
HSF 2019 looked like an absolute blast! I can't wait to go there some day! In the meantime I think I may try to re-create Dead Cow Lake Bed Airstrip, High Sierra Fly-In, and STOL Drag in my flight sim (FSX) and make it available as freeware so us virtual pilots can get in on some of the fun!
I'm busy building my new airplane. trying to edit in the evenings. My trip to Lithuania will be next, then a video on the airplane build process. Thanks man! I wish I was a faster editor!
Can someone explain me what're the rules for the stol race ? 😉 Why are they inclining the plane over a distance before landing ? 🤔 As always a very good video ! Thanks Jonas to make me dreaming every time 😍 I want to build my own bush plane one day !! 😃
That little plane at 9:58, the tiny one between the white plane & the biplane...is that an RC model or a people carrying plane, if it is a people carrying plane, what is it???
For someone that doesn't know STOL Drag that well... Why do you guys crab the plane so much? Is it just to be able to see out of the plane better or for some other reason like the cross wind?
It’s for slowing the aircraft down in a hurry. It creates drag essentially. Most of the time pilots will use it if they have too much altitude coming in for a landing as it will help them descend faster without gaining speed. And preventing the aircraft from overshooting their landing mark. In this situation it’s a bit difficult because we are so low to the ground and close to the stall speed of the aircraft. But it’s so much fun! Definitely a very spooky feeling your first time.
Jonas Nick & I had FLIP N great time, met SOoo many good Ppls I forgot my OWN NAME . Sure would like to Thank whoever Dropped of a FULL Bttl. of whiskey @ our doorstep/ camp Thur.Nite/Friday Morning, it sure warmed ALOT of peeps thru-out the Event..
I thinks the slipping of the aircraft is a requirement but you are correct it slows the aircraft down and a great way to slow down and drop an aircraft on short final while landing too! Slip it in!!!! Done it may times.
HOW TO STOL DRAG? "The pilots line up, take off, fly as fast as possible down the course then slow down as fast as possible without landing short of the far end line, come to a complete stop (with all three wheels on the ground) turn around and do it all again back in the other direction. The pilot who comes to a complete stop with all three wheels on the ground first is the winner. Time and distance don't matter in the head-to-head match-ups. I believe that elapsed times may be used for qualifying but not positive about that." By RADthird1
Jonas Marcinko Sketchy I think you may have forgot the slipping part of the aircraft flight down the course?? Your slips were excellent. Need more power? Do I see a 915 in your future??
its so hard to watch sometimes i CANT WAIT to get my pilots license and my new plane this is so incredible the fun the adventure the friends the racing O M G i love it!!!! STUDENT PILOT ED
