The only real negative to a full suspension lift is that the truck is modified quite a bit removing a lot of OEM parts off and making irreversible suspension changes to the vehicle. A spacer lift can be reversed back to stock. It’s very important to be honest about what you’re doing the lift to accomplish. If you’re lifting your truck so that you can go off-road you need to put the extra money into it spend more on new shocks coils etc so that it can take all that abuse. If it’s only for looks and not performance your stock suspension is prob gonna be fine unless you trying to do a monster lift height which could push the limit of the stock cv joints etc.

3in suspension lift then stack a 2 or 3 inch leveling kit, when you start adding armor like a roof rack and bumpers, that stuff is metal and sags the suspension down and you’ll start rubbing on them oversized tires

I keep my trucks stock - I bought my 2019 in Jan of '19 and have put 79K miles on it so far - a LOT of it in 4WD. We own a horse farm on a river so my truck gets used and the stock performance is fantastic. My son has a 2002 TRD Off Road 4WD Tacoma. He bought it from a close friend of mine - who bought the truck new. My friend had a professional installation suspension lift (5" I believe) put on that truck many years ago. The truck has 33" tires, an ARB Bumper with large Warn Winch. My son now has 245K miles on the truck and with the exception of normal maintenance the truck has had very little issues - and the truck is not a mall crawler. In my opinion, the suspension lift is not needed for most folks, but my son (and my friend) love the look of a lifted truck. Because my friend did not go cheap and was diligent about maintenance he had no issues with a lift. Stock or lift - up to you - just do not be penny wise and dollar foolish. Good luck!

WOW! I appreciate you sharing that with me, very good information from that. Puts things into perspective, I like the look of the lift but also for off-roading don't think it'll see nearly half of what you and your son put the truck through. This will be a learning experience for me hopefully a good one! 🤞😁

What is the reason for lifting?
For me, I need to travel some rough roads to get to my fishing holes. I don't want my oil pan to suffer the consequences. So, I need to lift it farther away from the ground. The only thing that will do that is bigger tires. Hence, I need to lift the body to accommodate those tires. 2" is plenty of room for 33s

The A arms work between the upper and lower bump stops, the more you lift the more angle the cv joints on the axles.. then wear faster, and limit wheel drop, a mid travel kit id imagine would be better, without uniballs because I drive in Canada with lots of ice and salt, uniballs wouldn’t last and maintaining them daily would be a pain.

@Aing Here's the way to go bro. I'm on a 2.5 lift in the front and 1.5 in the back, with 265 70 17 tires which are one size higher than the Sports 265 65 17 stock size.
If you dont want to lift yet, get 265 70 17 all terrains. They will instantly give you 1 inch of lift over stock and the only con is about 1-2 mpg less. But remember they will look just a tad small when you do lift. Thats what I have now.
Next option if you want to lift and get bigger tires but not get into a money pit, get a 2.5 inch lift in the front and 1.5 in the rear to level it all out and then get 275 70 17's this should handle almost all moderate trails easily.
Last option if you want to go bigger with tires get the lift and 285 70 17's but that will require cab mount chop and other trimming, possibly leading to spending more and more money. I doubt I will ever do this but its tempting.

Definitely go with a full suspension lift if you decide to do anything. I have a 2.5 inch leveling kit on my F150 and my front end angles are terrible. To the point that it won't go into proper full alignment. It decreases ride quality too. I also have a spacer lift kit on my 99 Jeep wrangler TJ that my dad gave me. One day I will definitely change out the lifts on these to full suspension lifts. I haven't had any big time issues other than bad ride quality and on my F150 my upper control arms wore pretty quickly along with the ball joints. I plan on getting a Tacoma soon to be a little better on gas than the two and kinda fit in between my F150 and Jeep. I plan on going around a 4 inch lift kit. I won't ever put a cheaper lift on like Rough country. Definitely save up for Zone, BDS, Old man emu

Yeah I have a suggestion for ya…stop doing UA-cam videos on the Tacoma. Do something different like fixing your funny facial hair.

Nothing wrong with a small body lift if you already did suspension lift and just trying to fit bigger tire. That’s my theory at least. I am about to put 1.5 inch body lift to stop 35 inch tires rubbing at full flex.
