- It potentiates the action of GABA, which is an inhibitory neurotransmitter, resulting in increased neural inhibition and CNS depression, especially in limbic system and reticular formation.
- It is used in the treatment of anxiety, anxiety associated with depression; preanesthetic medication for sedation. Treatment of status epilepticus, relief of chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting.

@@aquarius113Benzos are used to treat alcohol because it works on the same parts of the body(nervous system) so it can be used to stop the worst effects but after the first few weeks they’ll take you off. No point trading drinking for pill popping

I have been on Ativan for a year now( have been on it back in my 20's as well) for anxiety due to my hormones being out of wack. The other day, I go to get a refill, dr. Office responds by stating I need to make a zoom appointment or in person before getting a new script. I made the appointment but it was 7 days out. They were very strict about not even giving me a bridge until my zoom appt. I did mention in my note to them my fear of withdrawals and they Finally called in a bridge. How or why would they even think that a person could stop cold turkey from a benzo?

If you haven't experienced the hell of withdrawal, you don't understand. Unfortunately these doctors are completely oblivious to this hell.
What is a bridge?
If I told my Dr I needed 10 mg a day of Ativan a day he would laugh in my face. I'm prescribed 1 mg 3 times a day (90 a month) and he said that's as high as he is willing to go after an extremely traumatic event resulting in PTSD.
LaLA, Strictly avoid benzos or lorazepam as they are addictive with side effects un less you have no option. . Moods will fluctuate. Be determined to taper them gradually or reduce such medications to the lowest mg. SSRI of a low mg are better but they take a few days to act but they can be taken for a life time. . Reduce anxiety yourself. Your breathing is closely related to the brain [mind] and gives relief from stress-anxiety. For a relaxed mind observe the sensations of your incoming--outgoing breath at the entrance of the nostrils for 10-15-20 minutes or more. You can sit or lay down anywhere-anytime. No deep breathing. Don’t fight your thoughts. With practice the mind will relax. Keep a reminder to observe your breath sensations throughout the day and night before sleep, at work, at home, when travelling etc with eyes open or closed. One more tip is to sit on a chair without moving, be still and observe your breath for a few minutes. Stillness reduces thoughts and brings quick relief. Like me make this a lifetime habit to have a better life. Best wishes--Counsellor.

I have had two experiences with Ativan interestingly enough One of them was a very negative experience and the other was a very positive experience. The first time I took it was during the summer of 2018 I had a .05 milligrams of Ativan it did nothing, then later I went to the bar and got several drinks and the effects were so scary I ended up in the emergency room. The second time I took it was in winter of 2022, I had taken 15 milligrams of marujuana edibles and the effects were really really bad, like the first time with Ativan I ended up in the emergency room, this time though the doctor gave me maybe 5 milligrams of Ativan and I was feeling back to normal. It's an interesting drug to say the least. I guess it mixes terribly with alcohol, but wonderfully with cannabis
This is does not mix well with cannibus, cannibus has been proven to induce psychosis in certain people, unfortunately you never hear about this since everyone seems to think weed is harmless !

If you smoke weed everyday, that may be the reason for your anxiety/psychosis.
Weed has been proven to induce psychosis is certain people. Many new studies are showing this. A well known brain doctor named Dr.Amen has spoken about this many times, he is against cannibus, because of all that he has seen in patients.
