My notification only showed me “court proceeding interrupted by indecent zoo” and I clicked so fast, but alas… no twerking tigers or perverted pandas for me 😢
No naked zookeepers either 😂
Sounds like you've got a great concept there, though! Someone needs to make that movie.

Alas, reality is often disappointing
The simplest solution is to treat it as contempt of court.
💯
How if you are not physically there? Do not give these judges any more power.
@@glee21012Oh a Judge doesn’t just control the Courts Location. They Control the Proceedings. Well. In the US. If you actually interfere in the Proceedings, say Jury Tampering or something. Intimidating a Witness. I guess you could probably get Contempt for any number of attempts to disrupt the Proceedings directly. Including if they are operated Remotely.
Judges shouldn’t be allowed unlimited power. But they have a great deal of lateral regarding the things directly related to Holding Court. Usually that works somewhat decently for its purpose. Better than almost any time in history. And I haven’t been convinced anyone has a better idea yet.
@@glee21012If they can't exert control over conduct on a video call then they can't have video calls.
Perhaps the person in question had taken the legal phrase "comes now" too literally.
I attend a lot of Zoom meetings. Camera and microphone can easily be controlled by whomever runs the meeting. There’s no reason this should have even happened.
Slightly more difficult in a court setting where people need to be able to interrupt/object. Do you make all the lawyers admins/presenters? what if its not their case currently, who does the IT of adding/remove access rights its def not going to be the lawyers or judge, they are generally tech inept.
@@fukyu6681 My condo association board took covid as an excuse to move to 100% online zoom meetings. Anyone who objected had their mic cut "accidentally", month after month. If the boomer-boomers in my building could figure out how to do it "accidentally", the court should be able to figure out how to do it on purpose. There is nothing the gallery has to say during the proceeding that is appropriate to interrupt the proceeding. The attorneys will have credentials and knowledge of who their witnesses are.
Why not make the lawyers presenters, they can easily be sanctioned if they abuse the privilege.
There's no reason that everyone can't appear in person.
Absolutely! I run zoom webinars and meetings and this should never happen. Zoom had issues with this early on in the pandemic and fixed it. Court’s fault. There are several layers of access.
Why don't they realize they causing more harm than good by acting like this? People are weird!
I feel that an update of a contempt rather than a whole new law might be the option.
I'm in IT. assuming zoom was used in the proceedings, there are instructions and manuals about how to manage the meetings and prevent people from unmuting or sharing video.
Yeah, but if you are in IT you also know that people never read those.
@@MrNorker77 it's how I stay employed lol
@@TrakoZG I blame you for me starting to bingewatch IT Crowd again. "Have you tried turning it off and on again?"
There sure are. And people were probably very good at it when it started and they were overcautious. Now everyone thinks they know what they’re doing because it ‘always worked’
@@MrNorker77No, if we're in IT, the better people do not accept government jobs.
Remember, Kids. Never use your work device for personal stuff. You don't know how many times in my 19 years as IT Service Desk employee that I or my coworkers have found "spicy stuff" on people's work devices. I've also seen people's Amazon account they used to order stuff, too. Soooo.... Um, yeah. Get a cheap laptop for that stuff and forever keep the personal and work stuff from meeting.

One of the benefits of being an old person is hindsight. Specifically, having seen where the exact behaviors you're talking about has led to "fun and exciting ways" companies can be taken down and not only made people unemployed but also unemployable. We don't live in the 1960's anymore, and for good reason.
Well, here's to you hoping you'll be able to keep a career alive when your group does in fact take your company down.

Restricting rights to prevent something that can easily be dealt with on an individual basis is ignorant, dumb and stupid, unless you live in north korea. It's not like they don't have millions of dollars in salaries standing 9 feet away.
Caryma has also experienced Deana being absolutely unhinged
I wish people would stop acting a fool when it puts everyone else's privileges in jeopardy.
Why are they privileges? Be great if more English speakers had more rights than privileges :)
Catch & release, nothing of note will happen to her.
The idea of using proprietary software for this kind of thing is completely insane to me.
The people making these decisions don't even know what proprietary software means. 😅
If they decided to have custom built software written for this, it will become another ArriveCan. And I'm not sure open source would be any better (for sure it won't have better tech support, which seems to be the big issue here).
@@worsethanjoerogan8061The people making these decisions seem like the very group which should be MOST aware of what proprietary means
It was a pivot made of necessity. That it is being used is not a surprise.
That it is STILL being used and a more secure/controlled option not developed is where I’m surprised. Tele-court seems to be a big improvement for all involved and most situations, a purpose-built platform should be developed.
@@Earnan21 There is no need for purpose built, every feature courts need is something that could easel be marketed to other users as well.
I'd think the market for "video conference with access control for participation and and options for open-access-viewing" would include courts as a _small minority._ Heck Ian and every other live streamer on UA-cam is part of that market. From what little I know, StreamYard should be able to do the job.
The privilege of attending a court as a bystander does not grant the right to disrupt court proceedings IRL. If Judge Judy can demand decorum from her audience as an adjudicator, a court of law can expect decorum for the privilege of participation. It's already against the law to disrupt court proceedings.
In countries with human rights, courts are public and people cannot be kept out of public court proceedings without due process.
I will not reduce access to public court proceedings to a privilege.
@@roflchopter11 agree but attending does not mean participating example in a webinar everyone can view but only the presenters can do things like share, speak etc. You are permitted to attend not disrupt.
@@roflchopter11No human right about a non-participant being allowed to remotely view court cases. The human right is still there, just need to drive down to the courthouse. It's still better than going by horse carriage.
@@roflchopter11 Human rights also apply to the litigants, especially a defendant. Disrupting court proceedings is interference with somebody else's rights.

This is such a Runkle Story 🦄
Why wasn't she immediately arrested for assaulting an officer in the morning?
Stupid liberal policies.

I was wondering exactly the same thing. How on earth was she able to run around being such a nuisance, all day!!
At least those maniacs didn't really cross a line and start honking their horns...
Brandon at Talladega, the crowd chanting.
IMHO, this should be treated by the law the same as equivalent behavior by someone physically present in the viewing gallery. "There should be a law" equating the two. That would have the upside that it would tie in to existing legal history with regards to things like accidents (that lawyer who had trouble turning off the cat-face-filter) or mistakes (someone who inadvertently leaves a mike un-muted).
How does the court not know how to do something most UA-cam streamers know how to do: live stream a video conference.
I’m a lawyer in Ontario. I’m not sure how I missed this one.
Happened fairly often on the US court channels I've been watching, the biggest issue is that the smaller court didn't have a separate person checking who was trying to zoom in before allowing them up, very sadly Judge DeSanto lost her whole UA-cam channel due to this cause the Judge herself was the only one there and couldn't pre-screen who was zooming in. Even though it wasn't really her fault UA-cam won't give her the channel back which really sucks cause she was amazing, you can still see previous videos of her court on various law nerd channels.
I was going to mention Judge DeSanto's situation too.
Really? That’s why we don’t see her any longer?
Agree 100% Ian. She’s a menace imo.
wouldn't the existing disrupting court laws cover this already?
Unless the person is 'diverse', then they get a free pass.
The only thing that shocks me is that this is a new thing.
Not a "new" thing. Just an iteration of the "old thing". I even found an occasion where a lawyer did it but then I thought to myself "no one would have ever done this in person". Quickly I realized I was being naive and I found this.

Could also be a random zoom bombing. If they have an unrestricted permanent zoom meeting, it's pretty easy for the link to get leaked and get unwanted guests.
I never thought of a court hearing as a wellness check until now.
How does a criminal demand a publication ban? Serious question.
Some people have a pathological need for attention. I'm sorry to see them rewarded rather than shut down, time and time again. 🤦🏼♀️
"Electric whistle?" Sounds like the name of a 70s rock band.
Here in the States, there have been multiple court zoom UA-cam channels (like actual court proceedings not commentary or tv judges) because 🌽 was somehow played on the screen
Contempt and Public Mischief come to mind.
"This particular kind of interLEWD", did not miss that double entendre pun, Lawgolas~ XD
The lack of meeting security is a major problem with Zoom and why not be used within the judicial process.
Bail hearings tend to be short so they have multiple defendants at one time

This was great Ian. Thanks 💜 🇺🇲
We have professional protesters who roam throughout the country going from protest to protest. My guess is they are also on some sort of public dole in order to afford to do so while not holding down a regular job.
Yep, lots of far left types
Sounds like you blame whatever you can on welfare programs because you don’t like them. Professional protestors can be financially supporting themselves in any number of ways just like everyone else.

Sadly, the folks up there around ‘the Queen of Canada’ worship that one, as well.🙄
I’m sure Lawyer Cat is feeling a whole lot better now…
It’s Ottawa. Everything ridiculous comes from there unfortunately. 🤷♂️
If they want criminal charges, would they be able to apply disorderly conduct? Would that not be the charge that would be applied if someone just brought a tablet into court and started playing that type of thing for everyone to see/hear?
This should be easy to control with existing technology. Most court hearings not just anyone can participate actively.
should there be a law entitleing the name "public nuisance " and so stopping a person so named, from being within a certain distance of a protest?
Oh Runkle I so needed a laugh this afternoon (as I’m headed to hospital due to chemo complications) TY
Omg this is horrible 😢
The government had no issues finding charges for the truckers like mischief, so what’s the problem.
Maybe she has violated bail restrictions in the past, so the court denied bail.
What? You mean it was a rando, not a participant in the proceedings? Then how on earth did they have screen sharing privileges?!? I taught online throughout the pandemic and it's really very very simple to make sure that nobody can share their screen without express permission. How have courts not sorted that out?!!?
There should already be a law covering obstruction of proceedings. To be fair though, contempt can hurt worse than criminal charges. Unless you're a trucker.
Well this was a roller coaster..
"Wait... Ottawa?!"
"OMG Deana?!"
Wtf is going on here.. 😮
Wooo Ottawa represent!!
I’m so naïve I thought the thumb nail actually meant they found corn in the court😂
I’ve seen this happen in a live court before. It’s not good.
Interlewd is one way to describe it.

In general, new technology requiring the creation of new/novel laws surrounding its use makes sense to me
It happened to judge Elizabeth desantos her court UA-cam channel was permanently banned 😭😭😭
What happened with Mehboob Rajwani (64) and the voicemail left on councilor Steven Pasternak's office phone??

Good heavens.. 🤦♀️
I keep forgetting that Canada doesn’t have freedom of speech. We don’t really have it in the United States either, but we at least try to keep up the pretense.

The disruptions to a fair and open court process make this a situation I feel bad for laughing at. But I definitely still laughed.
Thought you were gonna say that it was an accidental screen share by someone working there.

Contempt of court, all appearances in person with no tech devices at their disposal. In this specific case, have the individual evaluated for psychological dysfunction. I also have a feeling that restrictions are going to be pointless.

We are totally seeing this in US courts! That's why Judge DiSanto stopped livestreaming for so long. It happened in Judge Bryants court & several others also! This is why we can't have nice things! Hopefully enough of them are stupid & don't VPN & get caught & charged, but so far, haven't seen any charges brought, just courts refusing to livestream! We get punished for other people's bad behavior!

There's so much tech changes and development, it's inevitable that new laws and rulings will need to happen.
They need to get GC Strategy to fix this

That was the intended goal. To have viewership of the proceedings limited.

I can't wait to hear your take on Karen Read tonight.
Theres already laws about interupting court proceedings. Enforce those laws dont make new ones.
Definitely do go to priporitory software because that will just limit the access that the public has. Instead have a member of the court who controls who on zoom has an active mike and who can share their screens (like the court clerk and baliff do for people that are there irl)

Deportation plain and simple as this behavior is not tolerated in Canada.
Unfortunately this behavior is tolerated everywhere as long as you're a progressive leftist.
Why do you think she wasn't arrested the first time, or the second time THAT DAY
Not to mention the hundreds of times she's done the same things in the past few years
Zoom has levels of access available, you can limit viewers to only viewing… so they can’t interact at all. It would be extremely easy to have handled this 20 different ways without requiring “shutting down” the feed. Almost embarrassing that this happened in 🇨🇦… in 2024!
Yea if it’s zoom you can allow people to share their screen. Base rule should be set to disallow all. You can also set it up to only allow the host or co host to unmute people. That would fix a lot of issues.
Anyone have a timestamp for where Runkle does the reenactment?
Ian...Why are Canadian courts so quick to slap publication bans on proceedings. This smacks of a lack of transparency. I mean they don't just do it for bail hearings feels like they do it plenty for other hearings.
Because Canada is a banana republic. Someone needs to tell Dick Cheney they have a lot of oil.
Haha she finally got herself some time. Is this the same lady that streaked at the Juno’s?
Could they be charged under indecent exposure laws?
I'm surprised someone like zoom hasn't figured out they could make money with a variant setup specifically to make zoom court easier. It really should just be a matter of a group based permissions system with groups labeled things like defense attorneys, plaintiffs attorneys, expert witnesses... And have permissions set depending on group they are in.
That exists in Zoom and all major web conferencing platforms. Their IT departments are just too dumb to figure it out.
