    I disagree. I’d consider co2 plants to not be beginner. Having 2 lights and co2 doesn’t appear to the average tank

    • @ReMz10184

      I was thinking the same thing. CO2 and two lights is definitely out of the scope of "beginner."

      @BingusBongusMan 4 роки тому +8

      Definitely not a beginner setup in the video, but I can say that both the japan clover and the montecarlo is super easy to grow. I stuck it in a tall jar with a 7W random LED bulb and it doesn't even have a heater (65-69F). Montecarlo is super carpeted, and the clover is very green. Maybe not as crazy bright as in his tank, but considering I only touch the jar once every 2 months, looks pretty good.

    Hey Mike- I just want to thank you for providing so many videos that are helping me learn what I need to know before setting up my 29 gallon (or a 20 gallon long) low tech planted tank. I’m taking a few months to do my research on substrate, lighting, plant selection, and selecting compatible species for a community tank. I’m so excited to get the tank up and running, however, I am going to be sure I know everything I need to make it a successful endeavor. Thanks for all the informative videos. 👍🏻😍

    Anyone who want to keep a Hydrocotyle but doesn't want to trim as often, get a H. sibthorpioides. It has rounder leaves and about the same size but grows a lot slower than H. tripartita. Since it grows slower, it's a bit prone to algae.

    Not only the excess growth can go into another aquarium, water clover, called sunusuniyaa saaga in Odia, is a pretty good herb and people at my place consume this either traditionally straight outta the ponds or even cultivated ones. These have multiple health benefits and you can actually even find recipes on UA-cam. Great thing and I'm happy these are good in the aquarium too cause i could source them very easily

    Japan Clover leaf is Hydrocotyle Tripartita. CO2 is not required for this plant but if you have, it will definitely boost its growth.
    But the Rotala H'ra and monte carlo need CO2 to thrive. So these two are not beginner plants for me.

    • @natalias5079
      @natalias5079 5 років тому

      mathew chen You want a lot of coverage like rocks and moss on the bottom to avoid the shrimp from getting stress from fish. Only get small schooling fish, and do your RESEARCH. Probably about 5-10 shrimp at first, but they can be a little finicky depending on the type you get. I have had way over 25 in a heavily planted 7.5 gallon aquarium, which probably was more like a four gallon because of the rocks and plants. Some did die off because of ammonia spikes. Cholla wood and lava rock are both very good for shrimp. Hope you have success :)

    Took me about 8 months to finally get the monte carlo to grow and its slow ... I have co2 injection and I fertilize with the same stuff ... I had aquasoil before and it just would not stay put, I would wake up in the morning and everything was floating. I ended up switching tanks and decided to go with Fluval black sand for plants, I had a thumb size left and 5 months later it is now growing, got about a square foot now. Light is a Fluval Plant 3.0. Its getting thick but does not go up, I see heads popping out all around the patch but it never moves up ... could there be different strains ? Mine was from Hortilab ...

    • @scottmurphy4946

      Take this with a grain of salt but I have heard that if you have a really good light, plants wont grow high because they are getting all the light they need.
      Low light will make a plant grow higher to try and reach it.

    • @OseanSin

      I'm not Mike, but I get all of my vinyl/ rubber hose lines malleable by soaking them in hot water for a while. If they are coiled I will take them out and coil them the other way after soaking for a little while. For extra stiff lines I hang them afterwards with a weight attached to the bottom. Hope this was helpful.

      @richardportelli1983 5 років тому

      @Ginny Tefteller I don't have much experience with the plant as yet. But I have a few plants in a lower light tank with sand substrate and those plants have grown quite well with very little ferts. The other in my dirted tank with gravel as a cap, those plants have never grown as well and a week with no CO2 caused them to melt and they are still recovering over a month later! And I run CO2 in both my tanks. I can only think they may prefer sand and less nutrients. ? Also dirted tank is always much messier. I am going to restart it with something like stratum or the like. Even crypts grow well in sand with the addition of root tabs!

    • @richardportelli1983
      @richardportelli1983 5 років тому

      @Ginny Tefteller I would highly recommend crypts as they looks gorgeous and require almost no work! Stem plants can look good in large groups but require lots of work and I am already bored with it! Rhizome plants are the way to go along with other slow growing plants.
