  • I didn't expect this kind of day but I just caught over 100 bass in one day! Here's how to catch TONS of river smallmouth bass with exactly what I look for, exactly what I use and exactly how I throw it!
    You've probably heard of anglers having "100 fish days" and thought that was total hogwash. There's no way you can find that many fish in a single day, especially scattered all over a massive river like the St. Lawrence. With the right baits and the right timing, anyone can load the boat with a 50+ fish day by using some simple techniques I'll show you in this video and go home with some serious bass thumb. Especially when they start schooling up in the fall!
    Hope you enjoy today's video! It's a long one with a lot of detailed coaching on my favorite techniques for river smallmouth bass in the fall.

    Awesome video, thanks for sharing your experience with different bait and techniques with fishing on the river, looks so calm when you are above the river, but that current is tricky to fish. My experience is loosing a bunch of lures due to the current, but there are a lot of big fish hanging out in currents especially around a dam. Love fishing with drop shot baits, thanks for the tips on saving your bait from those nasty rocks.

    Gotta love it when you can't do anything wrong with those smallies!... I live for days like that... and 113 smallies... WOW!

      When you hit those key spots at the right time, it's just madness. I didn't get out as much as I would have liked this past fall, but when I did, the fishing was AMAZING! Just no real big ones lately... that's 2 years in a row I don't pull out a 4+ pounder out of hundreds of fish caught in this area.

I love these rods, I have a bunch of them :)

    Love your videos Dan, the Larry can be a monster to fish and is completely different from back in the 80's and 90's when I was learning to fish it. Im located near Brockville, are you willing to share roughly where this video was taken? We have similar islands and currents up here too.

      Hi Scott! Yeah learning the St. Laurence is really about spending a ton of time on the water and getting to know the key areas over the years. First year I fished it, I came home quite a few times skunked or maybe 1 or 2 fish. Then with time I started figuring things out like where the smallies migrate to throughout the year and how to work the current. This was filmed around the Montreal area where I fish most of the time although now that I moved north of the city, I am going to make an effort to start figuring out Lake of Two Mountains. Tight lines!

    sick your video. what is the weight you use on the st laurent river for the drop shot and tube ? 🙂

    • @DanRichardFishing
      @DanRichardFishing  2 роки тому

      Hi Dominic, I use 3/4oz dropshot in 12+ feet because of the heavy current or 1/2oz for under 12 foot deep. For the tube, I'll use a 1/2oz or a 5/8oz, it depends on the bottom and and depth and how fast the current is moving. If I am getting on bottom really fast but getting snagged a ton, I'll go lighter. That's the danger with too heavy, you'll lose a lot more lol! If I'm just not getting good bottom contact at all and the lure is flying at the boat, I'll go heavier. With time I just know what weights to use in what spots and adjust for current. Hope that helps!

    Which fishing rod are you using?

    • @DanRichardFishing
      @DanRichardFishing  2 роки тому +1

      Hi Luis I am using a Okuma TCS Scott Martin Series Medium Light heavy Fast 7'2" rod - model number TCS-S-721ML for Dropshot (It says Dropshot right on the rod - the TCS series are labelled with their ideal use) and my tube rod is a Shimano Crucial Medium Heavy Fast 6'10" model CRC-SG610MHB. Both of these rods are my favorite models, almost all my rods are Crucials or TCS.

    We can beat that with largemouth. 2.75 average.

    • @DanRichardFishing
      @DanRichardFishing  2 роки тому

      This is true but you got to catch a 6 lb largie for the equivalent of a 3 lb smallmouth in a river. They just fight so hard it's insane! And there are other areas like fishing on St Francis where you get similar numbers except the average fish is four to five pounds! That's why when they fish up here in Cornwall at the pro tournaments you need a 28 lb bag daily if you want to finish top three.
