  • Welcome to my full review and field test of the LiLead Gen 2 Lithium LiFePO4 S110 marine battery! The folks at Ray Tech sent over their upcoming Gen 2 model of their dual purpose LiLead S110 LiFePO4 marine battery series and asked me to give it a review so I gave this thing a beating to see what it could do and finally compare for myself the difference between a regular lead acid flooded battery vs a LiFePO4 lithium battery. In this video, we go over the important specs, take it out for a field test by draining it for hours on a trolling motor and compare the performance to a VRLA battery AND we tear the entire thing apart and take a look under the hood and discuss improvements on this 2022 Gen 2 edition vs the Gen 1.
    Please note these will only be available as of January 2022 on Amazon.com so if you think this battery might be a good fit for you, keep an eye out for them in Q1 2022.
    Overall? I am blown away by the difference in performance and capacity when comparing lithium to lead acid, it's just a whole other world. And the LiLead S110 boasts some impressive specs, so tune in and get comfortable for a massive review of my first ever LifePO4 lithium marine battery experience!
    Shopping for your first lithium battery? Here are some things to look for:
    ✅ Be sure the battery is dual purpose if you are looking for a battery that will be a starting battery as well as deep cycle for your accessories.
    ✅ Check that the BMS is rated higher than the maximum continuous amperage rating of the battery.
    ✅ Test the customer service response times of the company by pretending you're a client with a battery issue. Are they quick?
    ✅ Research the company, don't be afraid to ask questions and check reviews.
    ✅ Compare EVERYTHING! Compare battery specs and capabilities, warranty coverage and replacement policy.

    Hope you guys like the review. My first cut of this video was over an hour long!! I tried my best to cut it down as much as possible to around 30 minutes, which I still think is pretty long but I wanted to cover every aspect of this battery as it was my first ever Lithium and I was excited to try it. Would love your feedback on the review, should I do more like this (field testing, tear-down etc) and was it too long or just right? Love you guys!

    Excellent review of this product, I m so glad this company had you review it, the breakdown and specs are impressive and you do such a great job getting to the point and showing what people actually want to know about a product. Now Garmin needs to step up and send you some of there products to review. As always excellent content and awesome video.

    awsome video pal. You kinda answered my question currently in my bass boat i have 2 garmins 93 sv at the console and a 12" hummingbird helix and 12" gpsmap 1242svx up front. now hummingbird is running a mega 360 and garmin is running panoptics. i had to add a 4th agm to run everything. so what your saying all i need is one starting lithium battery to run motor all electronics and livewell aerators lights ect ?

    Great review, I have been running a deep cycle marine battery on a 44 year old 2 stroke motor no problem as a starter and running a music head unit and basic lights.
    I bought a 2022 Suzuki Df25 and I’m thinking I could use this battery as a replacement for remote electric start and the same electronics. Any advice on if this will work and also how do you keep these batteries charged in the winter? Can I attach the same trickle charger I used before?
    Any help is greatly appreciated! Thank you thank you thank you

    If I understood correctly from this video, this battery on be connected as a starting battery as well as being used with my trolling motor (same time) Can it be charged from my outboard if need be while fishing using my trolling motor?

    Nice review! How do I know if I buy gen1 or gen2? Is it printed on the case or the box?

    • @DanRichardFishing
      @DanRichardFishing  2 роки тому

      Great question Robin! So it is likely the new one will be listed as Gen 2 however the new case will have different decals on it. The case I am using has the Gen 1 decals on it, the new case has totally different decals that have more silver on them. I'll post about them when they become available :)

    Hey Dan , I understand it's a dual purpose battery, but are they suggesting it be used primary for deep cycle? Reason I ask, I have a small skiff that's going to need a new cranking battery and it was be nice to replace it with a smaller, lighter one that can go longer between charging and still have the cranking power I need.
    Thanks in advance for your response.

    • @DanRichardFishing
      @DanRichardFishing  2 роки тому

      Hi Lee, you can absolutely use it for either application, it's a true hybrid dual purpose battery. The real difference is the BMS is designed to handle both and hence why it's more expensive. The cells themselves are the same whether it's a deep cycle or a dual purpose starter (in the case of this lithium brand). In my case, I will be getting 3 of these... 1 for my starting battery and electronics, and another 2 for my 24v trolling motor :)

    Nice video! This might be a good battery for a utility trailer, no heat. A future test could be how it runs a big winch? Will a basic solar charger keep it topped off? Lastly, you make your money off of ads. You could have inserted 3 more commercials and I wouldn't have minded!!!

    • @DanRichardFishing
      @DanRichardFishing  2 роки тому +1

      haha I love your username btw ;) Thanks so much I'm glad you liked the video! This would definitely be fine with a winch, in fact one of the uses for this battery is for electric anchor winches. I have a trailer mover with a winch on it, I should give it a shot! For the solar charger, you could definitely use a solar recharging station to keep it topped off, you just have to figure out how much time in between uses the battery has to charge and get the right size (wattage) panels.
      As for the ads, I really don't make much from ads and I don't go crazy with adding them all over, I just do the minimum and use the money for prizes and gear for the videos. I won't be retiring from UA-cam any time soon LOL! Thanks again for your support :)

      Hi Jason, you can find the specs to the Gen 1 version at us.amazon.com/LiFePO4-dual-purpose-starting-Batteries-Activities/dp/B094VQ44H8 and the new Gen 2 coming out in a couple of months will have pretty much the same specs except that it can be wired both parallel and in series and will include additional hardware and the improved case. Thanks!

    Do you know what will be the price of the battery? Thank you!

    • @DanRichardFishing
      @DanRichardFishing  2 роки тому +2

      Hi Alex, the S110 will be around $950 USD, depending one where the cost of container shipping and all that is at, right now costs of everything are going NUTS! Now if you don't need a dual purpose battery and just want a deep cycle battery for your trolling motor, LiLead is also coming out with a D105 model that will be about $400. The big difference between the S110 and the D105 is that the D105 won't be able to serve up the higher amperage pulls from heavier equipment like bow thrusters or starting large outboards. But it's perfect for your trolling motor, RVs etc.

    I'm thinking of going to a 24 volt trolling motor only because the battery starts to drain way faster than I want especially in windy conditions on my 12 volt motor. According to your excellent test the lithium battery seems to last a lot longer. Is that true or should I get 5he 24 volt and be done with it?

    • @DanRichardFishing
      @DanRichardFishing  Рік тому

      What size if your boat and yes, I found not only did the Lithium last longer, but it provided more power than a VRLA could as the charge level dropped. It's night and day as far as I'm concerned. With that said, what kind of boat do you have? I wouldn't use a 12v on anything bigger than a 14 foot jon boat.

    excellent Dan, Merci, j'attendais ce vidéo depuis longtemps. Je sais plus quoi penser et acheter pour mon Lund. C'est beaucoup de $ mais bon. Estce que tu sais combien de cycle de charge pour cette Batt en particulier. J'essaye de faire mon choix. Bion we

    • @DanRichardFishing
      @DanRichardFishing  2 роки тому +1

      Salut Hugo ! Cela peut être un défi car il y a de plus en plus de batteries qui sortent, mais la différence avec le lithium est définitivement énorme ! Les batteries LiFePO4 sont bonnes pour 2500 à 3000 cycles complets à 100%, donc comptez environ 4000 à 5000 cycles partiels, vous ne viderez probablement pas la batterie à 0% en une seule journée. Le LiLead est conçu pour 2500 cycles complets. Je continuerai à tester cette batterie et à l'utiliser pour voir ses performances au cours de la prochaine année, mais jusqu'à présent, je l'utilise depuis 2 mois et c'est super!
      J'espère que cela vous aidera, laissez-moi savoir si vous avez d'autres questions :)
      (Engish version) For anyone seeing this and would like to see what was asked, Hugo is looking to upgrade batteries for his Lund and is working on making a decision for a Lithium battery company. He asked specifically how many charge cycles the battery is rated for, which is a great question. Here is my answer:
      It can be a challenge because there are more and more batteries coming out, but definitely the difference with lithium is massive! LiFePO4 batteries are good for 2500 to 3000 full 100% cycles so figure around 4000 - 5000 partial cycles are you likely won't drain the battery to 0% in a single day. The LiLead is rated for 2500 full cycles. I'll continue to test this battery and use it to see how it performs over the next year or so, but so far I've been using if for 2 months and it's been awesome!

      Whoa what the heck?!?! I just checked the video and yeah the sound is totally messed up right at 22:24 and it's making weird sounds! First time I notice that or that someone mentions it, I have no idea why. You can actually see the voltage on the monitor fluctuate and you can see the battery shaking - that's from starting it. I'll see if I can re-upload that part and link to it, very weird. But yeah, it starts it no problem. I'll see if I can dig up the clip...
      EDIT - I just checked the original video file I uploaded and it's messed up on that too. So it must have screwed up when I rendered it and I never noticed it :( The worst part is after I post a video, I delete all the original raw footage because I don't have room to store it all. Sorry about that, but yeah it definitely started it up no problem (check my other videos, I am not afraid to show disasters in my videos lol!).

      Hi Brian, everything I saw in my battery was good, with brand name top grade cells and a solid BMS (That's why I opened it to see what was inside). The only thing that I thought sucked was the weak anchor points for the friction bar, which was fixed in the new generation coming out this winter. I'm looking forward to using this battery all season long in my boat!
