    when stalin died, his body was put on display for citizens to pay respects, which was known as "laid in state" and the line was saying that even while he was dead and on display, his regime was still getting rid of his enemies, since they were until khruschev took over
    also, "red over white" is red army (bolsheviks) over the white army (Czar loyalists) and seeing as Rasputin wanted control over the Czar, he would be on the white army side

    "The last man who attacked me lived a half life" is a reference to a political figure that publicly attacked Putin's ruthless practices as a leader. The man "mysteriously" died of radiation poisoning later, hence the "lived a half life" part of the line.

      The same thing happened to a reporter had called out that a family being blamed for murder likely didn't do it as there was no evidence and the trail wasn't fair. And then pointed the finger at what would have essentially been a government nark. Italy did something similar a long time ago where they tried to take the blame of a murder off of drug addict because he would sometimes spy for them and they tried to blame an American student for it. What made it worse was that their forensics team was a joke, they tracked blood all over the place, weren't taking pictures, sometimes someone would pick up an item (one namely being a bra) and dropping it in another room and that item would be picked up and treated as evidence. They tried to say that a steak knife made the injuries on the woman's body even though the wounds were clearly from a much much larger knife. And the Attorney general of the area just kept throwing out a claim that it was all caused by a satanic sex game, his favorite excuse to throw out when there was little evidence and motive. Every time the girl gets deemed innocent because again no evidence, poor crime scene handling, etc. They still try to get her brought back to be retried.

    • @sentinel7672
      @sentinel7672 3 роки тому +13

      If memory serves, part of the reason for Rasputin's murder/assassination was because during World War I Tsar Nicholas had a spontaneous decision to personally command the Russian military or something in spite of having no military education. When he left his capital, he left his wife and Rasputin in charge, which led to a growing belief that Rasputin had gained immense influence over the royal family through the Tsar's wife and was using it to control the Empire.

    Fun fact: during ww2 Hitler and Stalin were allies at one point, until Hitler let his pride and arrogance get the best of him and betrayed Stalin, but due to the harsh environmental weather of Russia and the scorched earth tactics the Germans were at a severe disadvantage and it didn't help that their tanks were too specialized that when they broke down, they couldn't be fixed

    • @JustinBowser77
      @JustinBowser77 3 роки тому +4

      It really wasn't Hitler's pride. The Germans quite simply needed the oil fields from Ukraine to supply their tank based blitzkrieg tactics. Hitler had no choice. Yes attacking Russia ultimately lead to Germany being utterly destroyed. Though he was going to lose without access to vast a mounts of oil.
      Same reason why he was attacking british territory in the middle east. And why England was viciously defending the middle east more then the French western front.

      Even before WWII, Russia and Germany had a sort of thing going where their troops trained together. Hitler's plan was all along to invade Russia, but it wasn't until he felt brave and confident enough to send in other peoples' sons (the "pride and arrogance" fits quite well in that comment you made) that he pushed ahead with his betrayal.

      Part of what caused Hitler to lose was Stalin's use of corpses to block off major thoroughfares. To ensure this happened he employed the use of Commissars, or officers with field execution authority, to ensure that if nothing else the roads would be blocked off using the dead. This forced Germany to have to constantly change to less viable routes leading to consumption of resources and harsher terrain that rapidly wore down the tanks and other vehicles. It also allowed Russia to extend limited supplies by removing a large portion of the population while being able to ambush broken caravans. A brutally efficient yet cruel tactic that saved(?) Russia from Hitler but at an inhuman cost.

    Right, a number of things here:
    The "took Trotsky out of the picture" line is actually has a few meanings. The first is that Stalin forced Trotsky into exile before he was assassinated by an ice pick to the head in Mexico. The second is a reference to Stalin's habit of "un-personing" people. Basically, anyone who even mildly displeased him had a high chance of disappearing and vanishing from all official records. There's a few infamous instances of close friends/acquaintances of Stalin failing or angering him so much so that he ordered their images removed from any photographs or paintings that they appeared with him in, literally taking them out of the picture.
    The "pride of Lenin" line and Lenin's initial response may be references to the belief that Lenin had no intention of Stalin replacing him. See, after the Russian Civil War, Stalin was given the position of General Secretary in the Communist party. This was (at the time) a fairly unprestigious position that simply determined who was a member of the party, who wasn't, and what their duties were. Trotsky, if memory serves, was made one of the top generals after his part in the war. Stalin started to use his power to install his supporters into positions of power, slowly and subtly growing his own influence and authority. According to stories, Lenin caught on and made plans to have Trotsky instated as his successor (or at least have him deal with Stalin) before he died. The message was intercepted and, allegedly, destroyed by Stalin, who then did whatever was necessary to remove Trotsky from the equation. To Lenin, Stalin's blatant attempts to grow his own power would likely have been entirely contrary to the revolution's purpose, which would explain his lines about Stalin ruining everything.
    Regarding Putin's "President in my prime" line, it's a semi-known fact that Putin actually kind of stole a lot of the responsibilities of the Russian President while he was Prime Minister, then stole the Prime Minister's powers and responsibilities when he was elected to the position of President.
    Lastly, the ex-KGB and ex-CCCP was a reference to Putin's time serving in the KGB, the Soviet Union's secret police, during the time when Russia was the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, which is abbreviated as the USSR in English speaking countries. In Russia/the Soviet Union itself, the name was actually abbreviated as the CCCP and a bunch of symbols I doubt I could pronounce.

    "Lying-in-state" is when the coffin of a deceased person is placed in view, so the public can pay their respects to them. After Stalin's death, he was laid-in-state for 3 days. Thousands of people lined up to see him, but it was so chaotic outside that people were crushed and killed underneath the crowd. About 500 people lost their lives during this event.

Lenin even also said that he didn't want Joseph Stalin taking power after him... And it's said that when Lenin was on his deathbed struggling to stay alive, Stalin was there either weeping when he thought Lenin was going to survive, or grinning whenever he thought Lenin was going to die (though I'm not sure how accurate this is, some things about Stalin are made up like that quote attributed to him about 1 death is a tragedy and a million is a statistic... That wasn't him who said that most likely... Fits his image kinda like Marie Antoinette allegedly (but not likely) saying the "Let them eat cake" quote...)

    10:09 Hitlers goal was always the destruction of the communist state in Russia. He also always had to invade Russia because he needed its oil something he and his allies lacked. (Oil wasn’t discovered in Libya till the 50’s) Hitler was destined to lose the war after he lost the Battle of Britain. Even if it was just the Empire against the German reich Britain could out wait Germany. The german war doctrine was centred around quick movement using tanks.

    Who thought this man history the Germans were starving way before they invaded Russia.Invading Russia was a last dich effort to get the oil they needed from the Caucuses mountains,and invading the British was impossible because the German Navy wasn't strong enough to provide naval superiority in the British channel. And the luftwaffe lost the Battle of Britain so that they didn't have aerial superiority over the British channel. In conclusion all of the German victory where do to speed of the German army but against the Allies and Russia in a dragged out fight they lost because they did not have the resources that they needed to maintain the army.

    The idea that communism would've worked, but it was ruined because of greedy and authoritarian leaders is kind of a misconception. The way that it manifested in Russia was on purpose. There are two main reasons why they did it like that:
    1) According to Marx and most other left wing economists communism is the economic system that comes after capitalism (in fact it is inevitable). But you have to industrialize via the capitalism first. You can't just go from a feudal farming society (which Russia at the time was) to communism.
    2) According to Lenin, as long as the capitalists are the dominant force on earth, a communist revolution is vulnerable to attacks from both inside and outside the country. So you have to use the state to defend the revolution from these reactionary forces, by all means necessary.
    Communism, by definition, is a stateless society. But because of these two reasons, according to bolsheviks, and many other communists, a transitionary period where a workers' party rules over the country and suppresses the bourgeois class, and quickly industrializes the country until the material conditions allow a stateless society, is necessary (libertarian marxists and anarcho-communists reject this idea).
    In short, power hungry leaders didn't corrupt the revolution in Russia. It was the plan all along. People like Stalin did make some mistakes but it wasn't because they betrayed the revolution. USSR was never a communist country, it was (arguably) a socialist country that were in a transition period. Also, USSR lasted 69 years (nice), and in its last 59 years there were no famines and its people were well fed. It industrialized really quickly (it was the first spacefaring nation) and if it wasn't for the cold war and aggression from the US, it might have been a truly communist society (at some point).

    No, the "Tsar's wife can't do shit tonight" had more to do with Rasputin being the only one who could calm the ill Tsarinas son. That's one of the reasons Rasputin was murdered, he had too much influence and access to the Tsar and Tsarina. Marxism is socialist, not communist, although communism is socialism, they differ in what form the government takes.

    10:29 The soviets contributed a lot more to the war then the Americans. It was the Russians who took Berlin, the Russians who encircled hundreds of thousands of men in the Baltic. The Russians who served the Germans their first major land defeat. The Russians who scared German soldiers so much that many when being told they were being moved off the western front to the eastern front would end themselves. The Russians crippled the Luftwaffe. I hate to say it but of the major three against Germany. America by far did the least.
