  • This video is a trash to treasure furniture flip. I am showing how I did a furniture makeover on this dresser. I got this dresser for free and I have a video on my channel about how to get free furniture to flip. This is a DIY Mercury Glass furniture flip. I called it that because I was inspired by my mercury glass home decor to make a dresser that looks similar to it.

    That looked like fun! I have never seen it done before. The end result is a one of a kind treasure that will appeal to a lot of people.

    This finish really suits the piece, and given the condition it started out, you really could have gone either way with a restoration or something creative like this. This would work really well on a piece with an interesting shape or a lot of glass and I imagine you could have a lot of fun with colour combinations and different metallics together. Definitely great inspiration.

      Thanks! I did spend some time considering using different color combinations but I needed something that I was sure would contrast enough to translate well on camera. I started to do silver and gold like my lamp but I didn't think it would show up well on camera. But this definitely got my wheels turning.. Looks like yours are too🙂

    Wow! I'm that is way out cool! Do it again do it again lol. I have to go look up what mercury glass is, but this made me think of pictures I've seen of space clouds. You and the nieces could go total StarTrek with swirling colors of metallic paint. The glossy finish was a great call for this. This could totally qualify as a bit whimsical if I didn't want to see what you'd do no holds barred with that lol. This piece looks so much more beautiful and unusual than just another orangey brown dresser. I am a reformed "purist" for sure especially with furniture that has dings, failing finish and veneer or nothing else going for it. I just remind myself, like you said, that beautiful ( or maybe really worn and ugly) wood is still there under a lovely coat of protection😄! I found my Itty bitty whimsy piece. It's in the queue behind practical, practice and learn on my old furniture first. Well, maybe it'll get to skip ahead 😉😁. Thanks Ebonee for another inspiring, informative, entertaining post!!!💗💕❣

      I just may do it again. It was really fun and much faster than trying to achieve a perfectly painted look. Mercury glass is like the lamp in my thumbnail. It's normally silver and gold but I did not want to do those two colors since they're very close together and I wasn't sure how they would show up on camera. So I chose to do two contrasting colors. I'm still working my way up to a Whimsical piece lol
      I think Im 50% purist/ 50% painter but I feel conflicted because the restoration videos get more views than painting and other creative stuff but I love to be creative.🤔 Thanks for watching!

    Neat! It seemed like the video was freezing on transitions from time to time, but that didn't take away from how cool this looks.

      Really? I didnt notice that when I watched it. Thanks for telling me! Will see if I can fix it. Nonetheless, I'm glad you were still able to appreciate the end result! Thanks for watching & commenting! 🙂

    Enjoy your videos. I watch the dog bed, I would have left either the screw covers or the handles, it seemed to need a bit but I liked it anyway. Very clever to make it into a dog bed.

    Awesome technique-watch out for the copycats! That’s right when you said, “ the paint can always be taken off”. Good wood, cared for properly will last a couple of lifetimes in the family. Than someone else can strip it!! Lol 😆

      I have seen ppl with thousands of subscribers copy my videos verbatim. If I try to say something, their subscribers swarm me and say "they have [insert #] subscribers and you barely have any, what makes you think they even know about your channel?!"
      Frustrating to be copied and not credited but not much I can do about it. 🤷🏾‍♀️ When it has happened before my subscribers have even commented that they saw that idea stolen from my channel and the comments were deleted. There is definitely a "good ol girls" club in the furniture space on YT and none of the club members look like me....when you're in, your channel becomes huge.. When you're out, you just keep posting and having larger channels steal....sad but true. I just keep creating for my subbies who learn from and appreciate me.

      Thanks, Laura! It is called Dawn Powerwash. It is widely available in the U.S. next to regular Dawn dish soap in most grocers/drug stores. I get mine from CVS. I love it for washing dishes also!

    Thank you! I've been looking for a technique to do some wood pictureframes with a faux mercury glass technique. Have you ever tried it with vinegar instead of Dawn? I've seen that method done with glass but not wood.

    • @eboneescreativity
      @eboneescreativity  2 місяці тому

      No. I haven't tried it. I don't think it would work since wood is pourous it would absorb the vinegar.
