    great explanations. How is the lens zoom speed and smoothness compared to higher-end B4 lenses?

    • @JoelWallis
      @JoelWallis  4 роки тому +1

      Hey thank you! I would say that the zoom speed and smoothness is going to be comparable to the higher end B4 lenses. It didn't feel cheap at all to me. I have used the Fujinon Cabrio Premier lens (not a b4 lens) which is a $13,000 lens and the zoom and smoothness were pretty spot on.

    So helpful, thanks for this! Do you mind me asking what model Lectrosonics you're using. I'm in the market for a quality wireless kit and don't mind the older ones...with a lower price! Thanks.

    • @JoelWallis

      Lectrosonics SRC dual receiver and then SMDWB for the transmitters is what I use. You could always use the LT and LR for a lower price point but I like the SRC as its a dual receiver. www.dvestore.com/lectrosonics-src-dual-channel-receiver-with-superslot/?aff=8 and www.dvestore.com/lectrosonics-lt-digital-hybrid-wireless-wide-band-transmitter/?aff=8

    Hi! Great video! Can it be controlled through the ATEM? For all controls (zoom, iris, focus?)

    • @JoelWallis
      @JoelWallis  4 роки тому

      You can control most of the features iris and color from an ATEM but not the zoom or focus. You would need to use a follow focus system and rear zoom control to operate away from the camera.

      Thanks brotha! This camera reminded me of the days in film school with shooting with those Sony DVCAM broadcast cameras with the black and white viewfinders that we first started out with. Do you remember those cameras before moving onto the PD-170's and HVX's?

    Yes it is an all in one solution, but the comparison just do not feel right. I would appreciate a few shots, why to use it and why not, or rigging out a bmpcc for the same results, and then compare it. For example a bmpcc 6k pro on a dji ronin 2 and an external battery. Parfocal lenses are also there to buy, I can't tell you one with the same zoom range, but you could :-)

    Does this setup have a possibility to connect 2 remote lens control units? Like zoom for the right hand and focus on the left?

    • @JoelWallis
      @JoelWallis  3 роки тому

      Not that I know of for Zoom but for focus you could add a wireless focus system with a gear ring to pull focus.

    • @weeardguy
      @weeardguy 2 роки тому

      @@JoelWallis Most likely it can, but judging by the (sigh) extremely limited information about this lens available on the internet, I can't tell the connection on the bottom side of the lens: if it's the standard 8-pin remote connector, you're out of luck. Those are usually zoom only or either of both (zoom OR focus, requiring you to flip a switch to alter the function of the rocker/seesaw on your remote)
      The 12-pin Hirose connector used on Fujinon DigiPower servo units (and probably Canon as well) can offer zoom on one connector and focus on the other while I think (judging by the circuit diagram of one) can also do both on one connector via a digital interface, as the connctor provides an RS232 (or RS485, now I start to doubt which one) connection that activates on the right voltages on one of the other connectorpins.
      As this lens itself has servo-focus (this means the focus-ring is NOT mechanical as I like to see it, but operates an encoder that in turn drives a servo to operate the lens-element) I would be surprised if it can't control focus ánd zoom remotely.

    Is there built in color controls for live broadcasting?

    • @JoelWallis
      @JoelWallis  3 роки тому

      There are color controls when used with a Blackmagic ATEM Television Studio HD and above models via SDI with the ATEM Control Software as well as the ATEM Camera Control Panel will do the job.

    How is the low light capability of this broadcast cam?

    • @JoelWallis
      @JoelWallis  4 роки тому +1

      It does okay but isn't the best for low light. However it does have gain settings so you can bump it if needed. Options for the db gain is -6, 0, 6, and 12. With 12 db there will be noticeable gain. If there is a little bit of decent light 6 db should work pretty good but if there are dark areas like shadows then you might see grain.

    How wide is the lens. We have a small studio and we put 4 people sitting side0by-side on a news set. If the camera is 8 to 10 feet away so the talent can read the tele-prompter will we be able to see all 4 people?

    • @JoelWallis
      @JoelWallis  3 роки тому

      It’s goes pretty decently wide since it’s a 8-128mm lens :). You should be fine 8-10 feet away depending on how large your text is on the prompter and their eye sight.

    The Blackmagic Ursa Broadcast with Fujinon 4 K lenses is definitely not a news camera. It's not an ENG camera by any stretch of the imagination. The review just says the camera can be used for field work but it shows no examples and makes no reference to the ridiculously poor performance of this camera in low light situations, the lack of a proper news codec, the badly designed handle and other shortcomings.
    I am a news cameraman and bought this camera because I believed in Blackmagic's advertising campaign. I soon found out the camera was not fit for purpose. It's a good camera to use in studio only. There is no way you can use this camera for news work in the field.
    I am now fighting to return the camera to the shop where I bought it.

    • @weeardguy
      @weeardguy 2 роки тому

      ENG cameras have never been good in low light situations, that's just the truth. All the other points make sense, but stating this can't be used for field work is a bit over the top. I wouldn't do it myself, I'll tell you that, but saying it's unfit for purpose is a bit beyond that.
