There is noting better then seeing explained how the equipment is setup for real situations broadcast. That is so much better then a broadcast about some Black magic equipment. I appreciate that as well but this video here has so much additional value.
This is amazing. A fresh look on how to create an infrustructure for live stream programing. Thank you very much Alex. I'd like to take this opportunity to ask for advice regarding a setup for livestreaming a dart tournament. If you are aware about darts, what would you think the best setup for it?
Wow! I'm really impressed at the high production value! It's amazing how coordinated it is! It genuinely rivals (and even surpasses in some cases) established TV productions I was wondering if you could make an in-depth video on the data gathering for the live graphics?
Overall this is a magnificent set up and how you explain your logic behind selecting different pieces of equipment is just great. Black Magic should pay you to be a spokesman bc you do a phenomenal job !
You have always been so clear at explaining how everything works. I literally built my channel off your videos and have a list of upgrades ready for when I have cash to spend. This video and set up is amazing.
Amazing video showing the behind the scenes of an actual show. I was so wrapped up in this as I watched it. The only thing missing was even a little bit of a breakdown of the audio chain being used...mics, interfaces, recording etc. Definitely looking forward to more videos like this.
3:39 Kudos Alex on running the cables up into the ceiling scaffold 👍. I'm becoming more aware of advantages of moving cable off the floor as much as possible. Very clean.
Thanks Eric! Yeah keeping as much off the floor as possible certainly becomes vital the more equipment you have. I'm thinking about doing a video about cable management in general...but worry it might be too boring of a topic haha
Thank you for all your hard work and long hours you out into the project. I don’t think I’d be able to do 80% of the complex productions I do without it 🙌🙌
Just when I didn't think this account couldn't get any better, you roll out a whole F1 broadcast setup! Thank you for all of your insight over the years, I broadcast a radio show that is streamed to Fb/UA-cam at the same time -- your UA-cam videos made it all possible!
Outstanding, this is a killer solution! My first rack build had similar components, but wasn't nearly as well thought out for ease of use and flexibility, while keeping all of the professional features and connections accessible. The other biggest feature in the overall size, with such a small footprint this solution could fit in wider range of venues. The overall mobility for both road and air travel make this system very ideal for remote production. If only there was a wireless version of this build that would still allow camera control, then the possibilities would be endless.
Glad you enjoyed it! Also, can I just say your content is fantastic! Have always loved your OBS tutorials an your no time-wasting / no bullshit approach to your content. Just clear, concise, and top info :)
Great build, man. LOVE your choices. My instinct would have been for a bigger switcher but I fell in love with your two tiered approach as I imagined running it myself and you really sold me. Phenomenal execution.
Thanks Bill, really appreciate the feedback. I’m actually in the middle of another studio build now, so out of interest were there any particular topics you wanted me to go in more detail with?
I find it interesting how OBS is now integrated into almost everyone's workflow, alongside stream decks. Stuff made for normal streamers, but a lot of professionals are using it for one thing or another, because it's incredibly versatile. I've seen it for capture cards, easy SDI output with the blackmagic cards, encoding, ...
Nice setup, thank you! How do you pull data from formula1? You said you used Singular, but how did you get data there? What do you think about using Elgato arm lp instead of that mic stand? What lenses did you use? 12-35? Is it better for BM cameras to use Olympus 12-40, it does not have stabilisation, but it's 40 instead of 35 and you don't need stabilisation anyway.
Again, great work Alex. This helps so much. Been a subscriber for a while now. Will definitely be scheduling a consult with you in near future. Thanks.
Excellent work Alex! Both in planning and implementing the setup, as well as explaining it! I noticed the different tripod markings on the floor for the (I suppose) different set backgrounds, clever! This is the kind of set that really puts into perspective how Blackmagic changed the game, a few years ago it would have cost a lot more to have the same features. And there's still room to grow, by switching to an SDI workflow someday if needed! (now I understand why there are so many exclamation points in BM's product pages 🤣)
Thanks so much. Glad to hear you enjoyed the video and found it useful. Yeah because the studio is used for 3-4 different shows each week, it definitely helps to have the tripod placements marked out on the floor with some coloured camera tape. I totally agree with you about Blackmagic and how they have really made this sort of thing accessible to more people... a few years ago it would have only been traditional broadcasters with huge budgets that could have this sort of setup :) Thanks for all your support!
This is PHENOMENAL!!!! I love this! I dream of building something like this soon. Absolutely saving this video for the very very near future! Thank you Alex!
Absolutely loving this type of content to see a deep dive of the cause and effect of why and how you do things is a game changer. Please make more of these as they are very valuable.
Thanks so much Marty, it's these types of comments that spur me on to create more vids like this. I have a few more for the near future planned, so keep your eyes pealed :)
That was incredible! I first found you by watching the Golf podcast makeover and thought that was brilliant! This is like that to the 10th power very well done and a very impressive use of resources!! Hello from the US in Sunny Florida! Well done indeed!!!
Great video. I noticed all of the SM7Bs are upside down, they look really good if you flip them in their bracket. It hides the cable underneath so looks much cleaner on cam.
Something you might want to have a play with; few months ago I started using the BirdDog Play as an input for fills, overlay, video playback etc; being fed either from OBS or any other NDI source; and allow for a roaming phone camera etc. Found it has simplified alot of stuff and reduced the apps I need to interact with down to OBS studio, Behringer Air and ATEM. It did have a 500ms to 1s delay for me but that could be because of the cheap touch screen laptop i used for the OBS feed.
Alex. This is stunning. OMG - where do I start! If you were doing the same set up now, would you have gone for the new TV Studio HD8 ISO and 6K Pro Cameras. For portability this means you could bring location/track cameras directly into the show and leave the main hardware in the studio. Perhaps even an entire program could be created this way? I realise this would have switched you to SDI, perhaps with Studio Converters? I’m dying also to know what lenses you went for? Please, what were the start to delivery timeframes - and also, the hardware budget and your own budget. This seems like a lot of work but I’m sure made faster by your incredible knowledge! 😅 Personally I like the microphones as it gives talent a confidence crutch but I think I’d go for low profile arms like Joe Rogan rather than the stands? And finally, I don’t think you mentioned storage / or recording to SSD BMRaw in Camera? Sorry for so many questions but I’d really love to know. I’m also going to email you re scheduling a call.
Awesome setup! Would love to see a video showing the operators running the graphics live. How do you setup the router to avoid IP conflicts with existing networks that you may tap into at various shows?
Hey Seth, thanks for the compliment. I'll definitely see what I can do about showing more of the graphics stuff. Regarding the router, it was mainly a case of picking a rather obscure IP range for our router, and checking it doesn't conflict with any of the locations. So far, it never has, but we can change the router IP if needed :)
I agree with absolutely everything in here- with one small note / caveat... coming up with the budget. If someone else is gonna pay for 5 BM studio cameras- plus all the other crap you need to run them- by all means! That aside- it is actually impressive some of the less extravagant elements of this- like using the mini given its super-source capability. Great setup- and breakdown of everything!
I'd love to hear if your graphics are doing well over HDMI with key and fill. My understanding is it will loose sync over time which is why SDI is still preferred. Cool build though.
I had that same thought. I’d honestly be hesitant to try and run an alpha layer of graphics over HDMI because my understanding is that HDMI simply isn’t capable of this. I’m wondering if it’s actually just a luma key or something similar.
Amazing work! Are you planning to show how you come with the visual idea of the building set up. Like the table. Walls and lights. All the background design is amazing. Would be great to learn from this too. Amazing work!
I think that's one of the benefits of today's world right. The small production house can create content at just as good a quality as the big broadcast studios...but are able to react faster and be more versatile in many cases :)
Hi Alex, could you explain to me or make a video on how to configure the talback microphone that you use in the studio and how to use it with the streamdeck like you do? Thank you
Great video. Thank you very much. Always great to see how the atem mini (extreme) is used other then just for presenting the black magic products themself. My set is not as complete and tidy as yours yet but in general it is the same idea. The biggest difference is that I made the mini extreme part of the "desk" so for the real camera switching during a live broadcast (or live switching recording), I hit the actual buttons on the extreme. I chose that because less equipment in between feels fale-safer. I also use one mini computer for the Atem and Behringer control software and for video playback. One additional laptop to watch the stream and of course a router and switch to have my own network. Absolute great to see how good your whole technical set and stage (lighting) works. LOVE the idea of auto-changing lighting to make the stage even more interactive. Thank you for sharing this.
Love the sound of your setup! Funny you mention about having the ATEM in the desk, I’ve just built a setup this week where that was a requirement. Super clean! Glad I could inspire a bit re lighting! Thanks again for all your support
Watched their stream on Sunday and the video/ pic quality is awesome, Screen graphics really good and the sound was great too., The only thing I found a bit distracting were the SM7s in front of everyone's faces. a Good quality headset mic like DPAs or something like that would look better and also allow them to turnaround to face each other when needed without too much change in the audio quality and volume.., Just my 2p worth :) .
Good question, as we also use it to run the show graphics and it’s a graphics heavy show it felt like a good choice. Also the team have ended up utilising it for other things too, including multi track recording. If you purely needs something for software control only, any decent Mac / pc will do :)
Could you explain a bit (maybe in a new video :) ) how you are sending the x32 sub-mixes to your talent? It seems like they are using wireless in-ear monitors? Do you have recommendations for gear? How many channels can you support wirelessly? We have community panel/speaker situations where expanded audio beyond the typical(?) 4-person podcast scenario would be very useful and have been looking into the x32.
Hello Alex, Thank you for sharing your and your co-workers experiences public. Just have some more questions in my mind. 1- Could you give more details about the studio and its other costs, such as utilities, rent of such studio and how big is the space ? 2- Can you give more details about the lighting and the products’ links ? 3- How did you build the background, why didn’t you get a screen. Thank you again and hope you the best in your streaming life ✌️🙏
Very interesting video, Alex - fantastic insight into such a professional production. One question - I'm curious why the presenters are all using SM7B's, which make quite a visual statement - as opposed to (say) wireless Lav mics? Was this a deliberate decision and if so, why?
What software and hardware are u using for the DMX control? Are u connected to the API from the F1 timing provider or where are u getting the data from? Also, what settings are u using on the x32 in terms of compressor and or limiter?
Great video! Do you have any setup tips on the lighting used and how it's setup on a grid for the best results on camera? Appreciate the videos you make, they've been super helpful.

Which are the actual lenses you are using apart from the 12 35?
How do u setup the displays at 165th Floor Studio? It should be changeable video / image right?
@@madgrapetvmy do you mean the background display? That’s is a 4 screen matrix where we are able to spread one video across the 4 displays
@@AlexPettitt yes sir. R u able to send the signal through atem via aux or a seperate pc with a video wall controller processor?

There is noting better then seeing explained how the equipment is setup for real situations broadcast. That is so much better then a broadcast about some Black magic equipment. I appreciate that as well but this video here has so much additional value.
