    Brian,
Maybe there’s a way to temporarily cap the straws when pouring the refractory.
I’m sure you could design some type of template with a series of small bosses and pull the plugs when the refractory is all poured in.
Vibrate the sides with a palm sander if you’re concerned with trapping air at the bottom (while capped)
Just an idea. Keep up the amazing work on your page. Great to see your passion for American manufacturing. I’m sure that’s rubbing off on a lot of people, myself included.

bees wax rods instead of straws? place, cure, melt out, pour hot wax into rod mold, cure, repeat. adds extra steps per burner but reusable with ease

What if the floor of your mold was made of steel with steel rod welded into it instead of straws? The rigidity would help with pouring the refractory too. Plus as someone else suggested some good vibrations to help settle the refractory. Also, I just absolutely love what you are doing for the manufacturing/ maker community! Keep it up good sir!

  • @CCCfeinman55

Great idea with the 3D printed forms.
You might get far better results and burner longevity to make sure you’ve removed all the bubbles you can from the refractory.
Also, if you plug the ends of the straws with pieces of dowel that are slightly pointed on the ends, your funnel system will work better and faster.
    Just sayin’.
Thanks for all the great projects!

Could you use solid HDPE rod in lieu of straws?
My 2x72 is finally ready to grind some knives. I am still playing with the upgrade tracking kit.
If it was not for you chasing your dream I wouldn’t have a 2x72 this early in my journey into knife building.

What do you think of a 4 sided ribbon burner for a barrel forge? Four ribbon burners at 90 degrees (as looking down) to encompass the whole crucible in swirling flame? I’ve never seen one and I’m wondering why.
    Thanks,
    Paul
Oh, where can I get the STP files for your gen 4 2 x 72” grinder?

    • @HouseMadeUS
      @HouseMadeUS  Рік тому +1

I would think that could work. But it might just be an overkill (size dependent) also it may be a fuel hog. You can get the step files for the Revolution on my website www.HouseMade.us we sell a CAD version now that includes those files. Thank you!

Thanks. I thought it might be over kill, but would limit each burner to a single row of holes. Overall, the area of all openings would be the same as a single, multi row burner.
I really like your grinder design. Just need to save for the parts.
      Thanks,
      Paul

I'm building my much as discussed.
I'm taking 6 months to build due to health issues, but now I just finished doors that need mounted. Like the doors mounted in this video, I'll do a similar hinge but only one large door. I didn't like my design but the double doors I set up so I could do either if needed.
I didn't see your forge before I design mine but believe my forge might have advantages it has 2 " wool insulation on most of its square walls and 2.5 inches over top panel of the Cast o Lite interior of 1 inches of mortar
My burner says angle gives a circulation of heating, and some say that good and some disagree .
      Thanks

4:32 why not just use hot glue or something? It would sufficiently cover the straw tips and not allow the refractory inside
