This is awesome! I bought a mango for the first time this summer. I was so frustrated when I was attempting to cut it because I had no idea there was a pit in it. When I realized there was a pit, I had no idea that it was huge! I vowed tobnever mess with it again but now I have to run out and get some. This makes it look so easy and was so helpful. Thank you!
I love mango anything! Thanks for showing us how to cut it up. I usually end up chewing the meat off the pit as I don't want to waste any of it. They are delish in a smoothie with yogurt and banana. I don't usually drink alcoholic beverages but I love mango margaritas!
If you like peaches, you will like these. Mangoes have a similar texture to sliced canned peaches. They are more tangy with their own unique flavor. Thanks for the comment!
No Worries! Irma will hit the western part of NC. She changed trajectory and the most we will probably see is a bit of rain. Maybe a little wind, but nothing more than that. Thanks for the comment and the concern. They are truly appreciated.
Noreen, Lots of great information. I tried the glass once with a mango but I don't think the mango was ripe enough. Yours worked well! Mango lover here!
Hi This is the first time I’ve purchased mangoes. Unfortunately I purchased the mangoes before I saw your video. But I actually lucked out and bought the mangoes that had a little give to them. Also thanks for the tips on cutting up the mangoes. I’m going to make a mango salad, so I’ll try out the tips you mentioned. I’ll try to remember to let you know how it turns out. Colin Alexander
Irma is going to miss us. She changed trajectory and will hit the western part of the state. At most we will get some rain and a bit of wind. But not even tropical storm conditions. Thanks for the comment and the concern! We appreciate it!
I've used the glass method a lot. Your mango was a little bit bigger than the glass you used. Try it with a bigger glass and it works great! Best way to cut and peel a mango. 👍 Great video! Thank you - I love mangoes!
Thanks Noreen, ALLOT GOOD INFO* Love Mango but nice to know more of the history and WOW* HOW COOL with the glass. Actually just watched couple your CANNING RECIPES, done a couple already. But going to do the ROTEL Recipe Tomorrow. Don't have access to Hatch chili living in Mi. I called my mom in Arizona she suggested I use Anaheim. But I didn't grow any this year. I grew Jalapeño, Poblano, Chile Pekin, Banana, and Serrano. So. Had to Special order from a Store 4 pnds. Fresh Anaheim. I hope to pick them up n the morning and start Canning with your recipe. I LOVE Rotel and have NEVER TRIED Canning it, so THANK YOU. LOVE YOU AND KNEEDYHOMESTEADER. ***
Love mangos. I usually cut mine in the hedge hog fashion, similar how I cut my avocados. I have not tried the glass technique. It worked perfect. Thank you for awesome information. Hope your having a amazing day. :)
Yes. Irma is a big one. Thankfully, she will not be visiting me. She has changed course. Moving further west. The western part of NC will most likely get category 1 conditions and see some flooding. We will only get a bit of rain and maybe some wind, but I don't think much. Thanks for thinking of us! This is one of those times I don't like living on the southeast coast. Hurricanes scare the daylights out of me. Irene was enough for me in 2011!
~ I've been eating a lot of mangos this past month- Thank you for all of the great info, Noreen. The only thing I really knew about them is that they are sweet, just like you :D Blessings to you and the Family~
I have been getting these delicious silky smooth mangos the past few weeks. A spoon just glides through it like jello. Last trip I picked up more and these are very fibrous and not smooth and not as good. Any ways to tell which ones you’re getting I thought they looked the same?
Wow, thanks, I came to see how to tell if Mangos were ripe, I've never had one, and it's a good thing too! I have a latex and Poison Ivy allergy. So I think I'll continue to stay away.
Thank you! I have two mangoes in my kitchen right now that are ready to be peeled. Your "how to" video is helpful. Now I'm going to fix my mangoes using your tips. Mmm yum!!
Hi Noreen, you can take a large spoon and scoop out the meat. This can be done after you have scored the meat or left as a whole section. It doesn't leave a lot of fruit in the skin.
Your price beat mine. I got some for .50, the best price I've seen around here. Usually they are over $1. I cut the sides and than cut slice that piece again. I can lay the fruit skin down on the counter and with a little pressure on the knife skin the mango on the counter. It works well. Thanks for sharing
I was planning on drying them, but when I got to cutting them up I decided to can them. I had three that were less ripe and that are still on my counter. We ate one YUM and canned (6 pints) the rest. Since I had room in the canner and extra mango juice (juice from mangos when i was slicing them and extra light syrup) I went through my fruit and found some pears that needed to be used soon. I got two more pints of pears. I'm very interested to see what the flavor is having used the mango juice with the pears. its' hard sometimes to know if THIS is the lowest price and when to buy extras to can.
No. I am no "prepping" for Hurricane Irma. I am already prepared for emergencies like this. I live a sustainable and self sufficient lifestyle so we are ready for whatever comes our way. What is most important is to always be prepared. We have no need to go to the store for milk and bread and water because we shop in such a way that we always have multiple back up of the items we use regularly. We also always have what we need in the first aid department as well as plenty of batteries for the occasion that the power goes out. Additionally, we are not going to get hit by Irma. It has changed trajectory and is now going to hit the western part of the state. All we will see is a bit of rain and wind but not hurricane conditions thank goodness. Thanks for your comment.
Yes, I believe you can. There are recipes in the Ball Blue Book as well as the website for the national center for home food preservation. You can also can sliced mango like you would peaches. Thanks for the comment.
The only place you should be having a hard time hearing is the clip from the grocery store. I was filming on my phone and unfortunately cannot fix that audio more than I already have. Sorry. Thanks for the comment.
Great tips! Mango's can be so darn tricky to cut and pick. Thanks for sharing.

Give them another chance. They really are delicious and worth the effort now that you know how to navigate them! Thanks for the comment!

Haha awesome first try on the glass technique. Will try that this weekend. Thanks!
I've never had mangoes but after this video I think I'll try them!

These mangos were perfect and we used them up right away in a chutney recipe that we will be sharing soon.

Have you ever tried mango chutney? It's so good on roast pork.
I made chutney with these mangoes. We will be sharing that recipe soon. Thanks for the comment!
Yummy!!! I make an upside down mango cake it's delicious 😇
Sounds great! Thanks for the comment!

question; how do you tell which way the stone is so you can cut off the sides?
The mango has a flat and round side. You will want to slice down the flat sides.
thanks

I could not believe the price. I probably should have gotten more than four. LOL! I could have canned them.
I was planning on drying them, but when I got to cutting them up I decided to can them. I had three that were less ripe and that are still on my counter. We ate one YUM and canned (6 pints) the rest. Can you make preserves out of Mango's?
Yes, I believe you can. There are recipes in the Ball Blue Book as well as the website for the national center for home food preservation. You can also can sliced mango like you would peaches. Thanks for the comment.
I have got to eat more mango
Wow, what a giant list of things the mango is "good" for, and then an equally frightening list of damaging things it can do.
i like throwing the mango and some frozen strawberries into a blender and making a juice
Sounds great! Thanks for the comment!
Can't hear
The only place you should be having a hard time hearing is the clip from the grocery store. I was filming on my phone and unfortunately cannot fix that audio more than I already have. Sorry. Thanks for the comment.
Just because you SAY you disabled the "dislikes" I disliked it anyway and you know it🤣🤣🤣
you had me until you called the "pit" of the mango a "Stone"..
It is a stone. Mangos are a stonefruit. Look it up
WHY ARE YOU SCREAMING. Nice video though.
I am not screaming this is my speaking voice. Try turning down your volume.
@@NoreensKitchenOfficial There are points in the video which sounds like you're screaming. Everything else I listen to sounds fine at my volume.
