I've probably posted this before, but other bands' unwillingness to have Raven open for them probably prevented them from garnering a larger audience, radio airplay. If you watch this you can understand why few headliners wanted Raven opening for them
They are definitely top 3 or 5 most underrated all time FOR SURE! I have Sanctuary as my number 1 all time most underrated. I honestly say, I put Raven at #2 or #3 most underrated ALL TIME. I wish i could go back in time and not be FCUKING ONE YEAR OLD when this performance took place. I would love to see this show in like my 20s up to now. This is special band in my eyes
I was at this show. Faith or Fear, Forbidden, Death and Dark Angel....most of the crowd left before Raven came on. They just didn't fit in with the other bands and their metal rep was destroyed by The Pack Is Back album. I stayed because I fucking love Raven and they are still great today
I remember the first time I heard Raven at a friend's house (Don't Need Your Money.) John's voice had me hooked!!!!!! Now in 2022, NO ONE even comes close. It's as unique as the band it's self. Still listen to you and still love the music!!!!! Thank you for being a huge part of making me the metalhead I am today!!!!!!
Dude. I will NEVER forget the first time I heard Raven. I was blown AWAY. They kick fucking ass and keep coming after you for more. THIS is the stuff I wish i could've seen. But i was born in 87. There you go. I should've been sooner!
Still have the original “Don’t Need Your Money” 45 & the CRASH BANG WALLOP purple vinyl ….. those early RAVEN offerings were some of the most intense songs in metal history. How this band never made it baffles me. Missed WHACKO when he left but the GALLAGHER brothers are enough to blow your ears into oblivion.
NOBODY wanted Raven opening for them. Not on their lives (or careers) so they generally played smaller clubs, not big arenas. Most bands of that era and genre would open for established headliners before becoming headliners themselves. And while they might get only 30 minutes on stage, at least they were playing to larger crowds.
I had a funny experience with John Gallagher. I was getting ready to play a show called “Sterling Fest” in Virginia. I was tuning up my guitar and warming up my amp, when I saw a long haired, tall silhouette waking towards me through the fog. I had just rewatched spinal tap for the millionth time and said to myself “Oh God I hope he’s British”. He came up and said “Hey man are you in band”? I said “no way. I like to tune guitars and stand by amps to look cool”. He said “Oh a smartass huh? I’m in a band too”. I was still feeling slick so I said “what band is that? The geriatrics”? He said “No mate, Raven”. I looked a little closer and said “Oh shit it’s John Gallagher. What are you doing in Virginia”? He said “What are YOU doing in Virginia”? So we had a laugh and I took the stage. I knew he was watching from the side so I pulled off a sweet Nigel tufnel backwards bend. And actually got stuck and needed help up just like in the damn movie. I looked over to see John Gallagher laughing and I realized I had met Karma.
Song titles 2-4 are wrong. #2 is "Into the Jaws of Death"... #3 is "You Got a Screw Loose"... #4 is "Gimme a Break". All four songs from the "Nothing Exceeds Like Excess" album.
You know, I think I remember seeing this tour when they came through Liverpool with Destruction as support. Man, such a long time ago, and too many Newkie Browns in the system to be absolutely sure. But man, classic heavy metal!!!
These guys should have been a bigger success when they came out in the early 80s!!!! These guys totally bring it LIVE!!!! Such an energetic show!!!! And it's Three People!!!! 😊😊😃😀😃🙂🙂❤❤👍👍🤘🤘🤘
I saw Raven 3 times. The first time I saw them was in 1986 headlining at The Paradise in Boston. That day I met up with some friends who brought along someone I didn't know. We became best friends within a week. He also saw Raven 3 times as well. The second time we saw them was in February 1987 at The Orpheum Theater in Boston, opening for W.A.S.P along with Saxon. My bestie went because Slayer were supposed to replace Saxon in Ny a couple of days later but the night before the Boston show Biff Byford couldn't get his visa and Slayer were going to jump on early. They did do a soundcheck then Slayer's manager told them to pack up as Byford got his Visa. Everyone, including my bestie, were furious. Then we saw them in 1988 at The Channel in South Boston, a mafia run nightclub who's owner got whacked. We saw John Gallagher walking amongst the crowd and as always he took to my bestie. He was charismatic so everyone liked him.
That was the year Saxon cancelled the night before their show here in Bridgeport CT 4 blocks from my house @ Utopia. A dream show at this small venue too good to be true
These guys were endorsed by ESP guitars or something 🤔 cause that's what I see they are playing!!! LOL 😂 Theses guys are fierce on their instruments!!! These guys know how to put on a great show!!!! ❤ 😊😃🤘👍👍👍👍
I am also a huge metal fan, but even in 1988 I was 12 y/o and embarrassed by them. I remember wondering why the cheesiness and embarrassing promotion? The music is so basic and bland there's absolutely nothing memorable about it. The singing is absolutely non-pleasing to the ears. It's like the singer forgot that singing should add and complement the songs and just belts and shrieks, in what feels like randomly many times. He has no mid-range to speak of and the high notes are more like if I would scream out right now LOL. This is very very basic stuff musically and more akin to what metal was early 80s like 1979-1982. By 1988 all major metal band acts were fairly sophisticated. This looks so dated in comparison.
@@malmstring I couldn’t agree more brother. I’m not trying to be a hater and I can tell you’re not either. It’s just bad music in my opinion. But your description nailed it.
@@malmstring They tried (and failed miserably) to be a more mainstream Twisted Sister type band in the mid-80's after starting out as a proto-thrash band, then sort of tried to go back to a more gritty style but problem is they never really learned how to play better or write better, and this while Prog metal and high-tech thrash were busy evolving. Metal was so big in the late 80's that Combat signed them as a reclamation project (well they did once tour with Metallica and that gave them street cred.)
I love them! Nobody sounds like Raven.
The closest might have been Iron Maiden.
The most underrated band ever

Raven is such a great band , like other comments say. They blow other bands away
And a great sense of humor
Absolutely fantastic!
They blow away every "Big 4" band with pure energy!
Hahah. Jesus dude are you serious?
They’d get blown off the stage by anyone in the Big 4
You got that right. 3 piece band sounds so large. Totally awesome ....live they are a force to be reckoned with.

Raven es una de las bandas mas desvalorizas. Pero eran muy distintos y especiales. De la epoca 80s. Por eso los escucho hasta el dia de hoy.
