This is a long video as I describe in detail each page, as well as all the materials I like to use. Make sure you're sitting comfortably and have a warm drink in hand to go through this sketchbook with me. If you'd like to just see a quick flip through then hop to - 2:50 and the chatty version go to 6:43
I love the energy of the sketches. The finished calendar artworks are glorious…but as you said, your initial emotional response and energy has been replaced by considered composition. I really love your calendar! I went to Cornwall in 2017 and somehow my digital photos got lost in the cloud, so your sketches are bringing it all back! Thank you so much, Mel.❤
So to hear about your photos Ann, glad this has brought back some memories! Yes i find on location gives so much more energy to my sketches. How to transfer that to studio is much harder.
Lovely video, so nice to see all the drawings and your voice is always so soothing. One thing I’d love to see are some more process videos of you drawing, it’s always so interesting to see how others use their materials ☺️
I would love to see you reach 10k by the end of the year too Mel! I promise to like and comment on every video you upload till then. Love your sketchbook xx
Just watching this triggered memories, my nanna had a tamarisk tree in her garden and hearing you say ‘mizzle’ I’ve never heard that outside of the north east. This has also made me want to re-visit all my Derek Tange books, I’ve never visited Cornwall but it’s always been a dream to ❤
I love sketchbook tours and this is a good one. Probably my favorite is the indoor kitchen at 4:34 but there are too many good ones to choose from. Well done and keep up the great work! :)
Gorgeous paintings Mel. I really love your Mullion house on a hill, when you first tried out the apricot Ecoline, beautiful light and shadows on the roof!x🤩
I’m slowly working my way through your past videos, dear Mel. I wonder, did you reach your 10k goal by the end of that year? I see you have far exceeded that now, and I’m not surprised at all. Another lovely video, thank you xx
I have lived in Cornwall since I was 14 and I am now 53 and this was beautiful to watch. It just warms my heart how you have captured each drawing … I had to watch this twice as I loved your work so much. I will most definitely buy your calendar Mel, you are such a talented artist. ❤️⭐️🌸
So far I’ve watched the flip through and it’s such a powerful collection of drawings. Congratulations on a brilliant sketchbook. ❤ I think your confidence really shines through in the compositions and gestural marks and I love it!
Thanks, Mel. Its always interesting to see the development throughout a sketch book. Beautiful work. You've inspired me to give Neo II colours a go and I'm enjoying them so far, although they are messy if you hold them in your hand whilst working. 😂 I have received your 2023 calendar and Godrevy Snowdrop Jug painting and love both. Thank you again.
That was really lovely Mel. Your style has definitely developed since then so that’s fascinating to see. I have the Lyra crayons and really like them and wondered why you switched to Neo colour 2’s?
Your art is so beautiful and your videos are a true joy to watch 👌 ❤ I visited Cornwall in September and took so many pictures to use as references for my drawings. Cornwall has such an inspiring landscape; especially the Lizard Peninsula.
Lovely sharing your sketchbooks with you. I so wish I could get your 2023 calendar in the US. You don’t sell through Amazon, do you? Thanks for the beautiful glimpses of Cornwall!
Hi Mel, very absorbing video. Thank you for all your efforts to produce top quality output....your videos are a great balance of art and local interest. I love your work and I'm trying to develop a similar style, although I try to combine watercolour with coloured inks from Diamine. They produce such vibrant saturated images. One thing I'd like to ask; in this video you mentioned several times that you weren't happy with certain pictures. In future could you say why? It would be very interesting. Keep up the great work!
Thankyou! Noted and I will try to, but sometimes it's hard to put a finger on exactly why, and sometimes it can be down to how I feel at the time. I can be a harsh critique of my own work.
Hi Melanie, how lovely to find you!! I’m in Cornwall too. This is my embroidery crafting channel. I started a new channel for my art called Kim Thane’s Art channel. I must get back into it but I’ve been so busy painting for the different galleries around cornwall. Subscribed. 😊
Lovely sketchbook. I liked hearing about the experience, but your remembering uneasiness at being out and about is very triggering. Healthy people should never have been quarantined.
Thank you. Yes it is quite shocking to think about it really and the fear that was spread. Sadly I'm sure the repercussions from that time will be felt for years to come.

I didn't actually, got close but reached it in the March the following year!
Lovely sketchbook pages! I just love your landscapes - they are so whimsical and fun!
Gosh, this is so relaxing. Thank you, Mel! I needed that today. :) Your work is beautiful and it's lovely to hear the stories behind the pieces.

Thanks Christine! And wonderful to hear your package has arrived in Australia safely 😊
That was really lovely Mel. Your style has definitely developed since then so that’s fascinating to see. I have the Lyra crayons and really like them and wondered why you switched to Neo colour 2’s?
I found that I couldn't buy them in in singles and so I switched to Neocolor gradually replacing like for like.
Your art is so beautiful and your videos are a true joy to watch 👌 ❤ I visited Cornwall in September and took so many pictures to use as references for my drawings. Cornwall has such an inspiring landscape; especially the Lizard Peninsula.

Beautiful sketchbook! Can I ask if you treat your sketchbook pages with a fixative?
Thankyou! I don't use a fixative but use scrap paper in between the paper pages.
@@MelanieChadwick thanks :)
