    Thanks for this beautiful tutorial. It’s so valuable for me as a beginner watercolorist to see professional painters work real-time in order to better understand timing and how long you can actually work with an area before you need to leave it to dry. The way you describe your thought process while you paint is very helpful. I hope you feel better soon ❤️

    Even though we live on different continents, that plant you found was either sea grape or something that has the same ecological niche as sea grape in North America! I feel the heat of the day seeing those stark shadows, the muted green of the leaves, and that little yellow one that has dropped from the plant. Such a lovely composition. Your detail work is amazing.

    Louise, I began watercolor in 2015. I used Fabriano's hot press paper, which at the time, had a subtle texture and you could get vibrant dimensional color with only 2 layers of paint. I have some of those practice paintings. I don't know if you used 'old' paper or not (to compare it to this new soft press paper.) The hot press paper that Fabriano distributed after that was very slick and I could not use it. Thank you for these videos! 🙏✌

    Hello Louise! What a wonderful and fresh beachy leaf painting. My watercolour pencils are from Faber-Castell and it's a lot of fun, but for me as a beginner not so easy to use them. So thanks for your introduction ❤
    I have another question. The palette you use in this video, is it made of ceramic/porcelain or plastic? It looks good and smart to use, is it? Where can I buy it, I am from Germany.
    Best regards, Susanne

    This was so interesting to watch. I like the subtle colour of the graphitint pencils, they are like the melancholy cousin of watercolour pencils. I think the mixed media path could be a really interesting thing for you to explore. I very much look forward to a work made entirely with graphitint pencils. Would you continue using the soft press paper for that or do you think you would go hot press?

    • @LouiseDeMasi
      @LouiseDeMasi  2 роки тому +1

      Thank you! I'm not sure. Maybe hot press. I have quite a few sheets of it and I could use some of it up with drawings.

    Lovely painting, Louise! 😍 - As far as the pencils are concerned, I am not sure the colour is lightfast - especially after wetting and diluting the "tint" part (graphite typically is, of course). Perhaps it would be a great idea to test some swatches in the upcoming Australian summer instead of relying on the manufacturer's rating.

    This is a great tutorial. For one thing you show how wonderful subjects to paint are literally all around us if we can learn to see them. Second, I like the use of the pencils to add details and precise coloration. Although you could have used watercolor, as you said, you did not have to worry about accidently disturbing the previous layers and it was quicker. The use of the pencil to suggest sand was very effective - did you practice that on a scrap first or just take a chance on it?

    • @LouiseDeMasi
      @LouiseDeMasi  2 роки тому

      Thanks very much Don. I didn't try it on a scrap piece of paper first. I probably should have but I figured if I do it lightly enough I'd be able to remove it with an eraser.
