In India, we cook different rice varieties in different ways. We soak rice for less hours when we pressure cook or boil and strain. The soaked water will contain some nutrients which will be wasted if drained. So my suggestion would be to wash the rice thoroughly and soak it in warm water for two to four hours (in cold climates) and cook with (1:1.5 or 1:2 ratio of rice to water) a covered lid. Excess water, if any, can be drained and used as a drink.
just change my diet to red rice.....i skip the soaking step. i put 1 part of red rice and 6 part of water in the rice cooker....take about 45 minutes to cook. nice n fluffy.
I rinse it thoroughly, drain it, mix it with orzo pasta and fry it in mixture of avocado oil and organic butter with onion and herbs of my choice. Then I add chicken stock, bring all to boil, cover and cook on low until tender...about 30 minutes.
I love red rice as much as I do brown. I rarely soak it beforehand, though..mainly because I eat red/brown for dinner every night. And I normally only decide which to eat prior to cooking it for dinner. I always use 2 cups (or another 1/4) for every cup of rice. I cook it with the absorption method with a covered lid throughout. I time it for only 15 minutes and it’s perfectly done. You mentioned 30 minutes. Perhaps the different varieties of red rice makes cooking times vary? But by so much? I’m a bit puzzled. Anyway, red rice is delicious. An acquired taste, maybe. Well worth trying and adopting it into our diets. I’m glad I did.
The time depends on how much water you put in there to simmer. The intention is about how fluffy you want your rice to be. The more water, the fluffier it gets and more time to cook. :)
Zedlee ..Oh thanks for replying, bud! I learnt it all by trial and error initially. I also occasionally eat black rice. Turns out somewhat pink in color after cooking. Fascinating stuff and a treat to eat. Rice rules! 🙂
The soaking part is to stimulate the germs inside the red rice to grow out a little bit which will create more nutrition in the rice. On the other hand, white rice is processed grain, it lost its outer skin and germ, which have all the nutrition, so you don't need to do the soaking part with it.
05/29/2021 Too Dry, should have added some butter 🧈 or some type of cooking oil-olive oil 🪔a couple of teaspoons at least. I also would have added a soft or hard chicken 🐔 boulon🍗 chicken powder, some chopped onions 🧅 chopped or minced🧄 garlic cook on medium heat.
I wanted to cook red rice .i stay in India and I soaked it fr 7hrs.but it is not becoming soft. So my question is how long should I soak the red rice before cooking so that it becomes soft and fluffy as white rice?
I think you must have a different type of red rice since 7 hours of soaking should be good to soften the rice. In terms of softness, it still has the texture of the skin and not completely like white rice
Im so confused how to cook the red rice.. quite difficult 😢😢😢 I tried and boil it.. 1cup=3cup of water.. i still taste little crunchy after it has boil.. please help me
But where is the sauce???? Or the sauce is not that deffirente from white???? It is not common in my country red black brown we just know the white one

you shouldn't use the excess water because of the possibe arsenic content
