  • Hello everyone!
Welcome back to the farm, after being away for a few weeks!
In this episode I'm sharing a short behind-the-scenes of my recent travel, but focusing on the work done in the last few days upon my return. The land bridge is still a focus for me, as it is at the epicenter of my winter activities on the farm. I took down most of the remaining trees on the land bridge, with just a few more (larger) trees to go.
I also took some time to de-stress from the work and holiday chaos happening around me, and I snowshoed through some of my back property (and I took you along for the walk). It is very peaceful on my property, which continually reinforces why I bought it - it is a piece of property I have grown to love, and day-by-day as more projects are tackled, I grow more proud of its street presence as well. That street presence has really jumped up a few notches while I was away, as a tree crew came and trimmed the trees in front of my barn. There's some cleanup work that needs to be done, but that is the easy part considering the work they had to do!
As we are heading into the holiday weekend, and ultimately the start of 2023, I took this opportunity to revisit some of the highlights of this past year owning the farm. It has come a LONG way in a year, and I couldn't be happier.
I hope you all enjoy the video, and for those who celebrate, I wish you a wonderful holiday season. Don't stay away too long though - there's SO MUCH MORE to come in the new year!
Don't forget, I have setup an email address for this channel - buyingthefarmny@gmail.com. If anyone would like to send a note, discuss a particular topic, share your stories, or to contact me for any other reason, please feel free!
Thanks for stopping by, and we'll see you on the next video!!

David, thank you so very much for the kind comment and support. I'm thrilled that my videos bring enjoyment - there are many more to come in the new year. As I write this, I am watching "Escape to the Country" on BritBox - the timing of your comment is perfect! This series was one of the motivations for buying my property. I do so love the English countryside. I think I have mentioned it to you before, but I don't mind sharing a bit of jealousy that you get to enjoy it year-round!

I'm thinking you might need to go see one of these Psychologist
    Psychiatrist, Psychoanalyst, Psychotherapist, proctologist.
On that last one that's a just in case you fall on something while you're walking around on the farm.
As far as the others, that's to help you cope with the working in the cold weather.
My time spent out in the cold weather has resulted in frostbite happening a few times. Have major issues with the hands when it's cold out. I end up with burns and blisters on my fingers and have no clue how they got there.
I'm also wondering who's been helping you. Little over 3 min into your video you mentioned "we" I'm thinking you've partnered with a couple groundhogs seeing that you have it in for the beavers. LOL
If you've made it this far I know for a fact that you've done laughed your butt off, that's part of getting you fit so you're not winded while snowshoeing.
It's been fun following your adventure with the farm. Hope things continue to improve for you.
Merry Christmas young man. Hope it's a wonderful one for you and your family.

Heyyyyy Lonnie!! Merry Christmas to you too! You're not kidding - every time I'm out in the cold weather "working", I think to myself that I need to have my head examined!!! I used to be a ski instructor and used to love the winter - but as you age your extremities react differently to cold. My hands and feet don't appreciate being out in this weather, no matter how bundled up I am! And when I said "we" in the video, I refer to all of YOU following along with me. I've done most of the work, but "we" have been along on the journey. You're just much warmer than I am during all the labor! Hahaha. I hope you have a great holiday week, and I'll catch you on the next video. :-)

Thank you so much for watching, and for the comment! Yes, the community is very interested in the project, and wondering what is going on at the farm. I have neighbors stop by frequently when I'm working there. It is a beautiful area, and the farm was definitely the distraction - abandoned and run-down. I want it to be a beautiful addition to the area once more. It's getting there, very slowly. :-)

Very nice wrap up to your year. I really enjoyed it. Those beavers are something else. I know of a couple beaver dams in the area that have grown significantly and look precarious as to what they may do to the road if they ever go. Land bridge looks much improved. A chipper for your tractor might help you out with the brush piles? Nice purchase of a tractor. Good size and you’ll enjoy the cab. They are work horses and will surprise you with what they can do. Not sure if you have to using diesel from the pump but I have always put an additive in the can when I fill up in the winter to keep the fuel from gelling. So far so good. Enjoy your holidays and, dare I say, the snow? I always do this time of year. I have the same plan to get into shape with snowshoes. I plan on dragging the dog with me (I’m sure it will be the other way around as he is a lab) and doing some shoe’ing this winter.

Heyyyy!! Thanks so much for the comment, and happy holidays! Thanks for watching, and I'm glad you enjoyed the video! Yeah, the beavers keep coming back, though I've never actually seen them - just their chewed-up remains, and of course, the beaver dams! I'm already on the hunt for winter deals on PTO attachments. A chipper is definitely on the list, and if I can't find a PTO model, I'm looking for a tow-behind gas model. It's always a challenge balancing price with how big of a branch they can chew up. I'm also looking at the dreaded post-hole diggers. Hahaha. What additive do you put in the diesel? I'm trying to keep the fuel fresh and the engine turning every week or so. I wish you luck with your snowshoeing pursuits - I'll keep you posted on mine. I just ordered a new replacement drone, so I'm looking forward to some nice videos coming up. :-)

I use a product called Power Service to treat my diesel. It might be what the dealer had me use when I asked for the first time, but that was a while ago so I am not sure. I like it because it has cetane boost among other things. Last jug I purchased was right at Runnings. I have never had a problem with diesel gelling since I have used it.

Oh excellent - thank you! Runnings is close-by, so I'll swing by and pick up a bottle. I appreciate the information!! :-)
