My story so far........
Bouncing around North America and Asia, I've never lived anywhere too long. I found my calling as a teacher and ended up staying in Korea and China for many years. While I've had the chance to explore Europe, places I consider home are Washington DC, Seoul, Beijing, Memphis, and Columbus. After 20 years of exploring, I'm ready to share my adventures and wanderlust. The road ahead is never a straight line, but a path that zigs and zags, leading you to amazing places, people, and experiences you could never imagine. Be flexible and open minded, embracing the uncertainty of life and letting the current whisk you away........
Throughout your entire video, I can feel your deep nostalgia.
It really was a walk down memory lane for me. I know we can all feel that about a place from our past. I'm glad those feelings came across in the video though....honestly I feel like I'm making these new video memories for myself in the future when it will become difficult to remember.

China is probably one of the safest place on earth. Over here you will see
friendly people, who want to take pictures with you, superb infrastructure, very conveniences to go around from
city to city.All of my western friends who made visits to China came back with extremely high praises on China
It is very safe. I've never felt in danger anywhere in China. The people are very friendly and helpful. In some places I've had people come over and ask to take a photo together and I always say yes. I agree with everything you've said here and I do hope to visit again soon.
You definitely know a lot about China because your shooting technique has already exposed everything! This is the first time I watched your video, I was captivated because your camera seemed to convey a language, which is due to your strong attachment to the culture and scenery of Beijing that can't be expressed in words. Sometimes I am the same, although I am not a native of Beijing. I believe this nostalgic emotion cannot be erased by time.
Thank you so much for your generous comment Jimmy! I've been very fortunate to travel and live in different parts of the world and happy to share my experiences with others. Beijing has a very special place in my heart even if I can't visit often. I have so many wonderful memories from my time there.
Need to book online so limited number of people can go in per day, the goal is to allow visitors more time to visit and see the exhibits instead of just going through with tourist groups
I can appreciate the reason for making it a better experience while visiting the Palace Museum, but i do miss being able to just walk around Tiananmen without having to make a reservation.
they are holding the anual Two Sessions (like national congress) right now so security level is heigthen. I hope it will go back to normal after. I did see some earlier YT videos that the square is open to the public without reservation.@@AtHomeAnywhere

10:11 The Yin Xiang City Plaza is the place where I took my daughter to her after school class around 2013. So, there are highly chances we've already seen you in that plaza. I remember there are dozens of schools for kids, like learning English, dancing, gym, kungfu, ... We often had dinners in restaurants at that plaza too. Those memories are gold. It's glad to see you made back to China, wish you have a wonderful journey!
Wow! It's really a small world. I went to my first Haidilao Hot Pot restaurant in the mall there. Thank you so much for your comment and sharing memories. I am having a great time being back and hopefully will be able to make return trips to visit more often.

I think there is the annual parliament meeting going on or in session for a week in the Hall of People. That is why the entire area is blocked.
I’m not sure as I was only there 2 days. It may have been.

It's never too late to learn the language. You are right about learning Chinese when you choose to live in China. It opens a whole new world if you do speak Chinese and even better if you can read it.
I totally agree with you. I think it's always good to be familiar or know the language of places you travel to and live.

I highly recommend visiting for at least 4 days depending on how much you want to see and do 😊👍

Enjoyed your video! Like you I left in 2013.... I am moving back this year (though I have visited several times). There's alot of positives since 2013 (but yes you do need a smart phone) especially in regards to air quality and transportation (more and cleaner subways, more local high speed rail and of course didi.) I do miss the the red trikes in Sunlitun. For many people housing has really improved and the absence of so many internal combustion engines (so many more EV's) is nice... though pedding a bike can be a bit tough. The big ESL companies (EF, WallStreet, New Oriental ) hav e cut way way on the number of locations after Covid. Would you and your family ever move back?
I was blown away by how beautiful the weather was. I remember a lot of smog, but I feel like they have really cleaned the air pollution. I actually worked at an EF school for a few years teaching English. I travel to Asia regularly, spending most of my time in Korea (that was my first home and the place I'm most comfortable) but as far as moving back...it's a dream of mine....maybe retirement 🙂 Thank you so much for your comment and wishing you the best with your move back to China this year.

I understand you, I as a Chinese once lived in Berlin, has the same emotion, at least your Beijing is getting cleaner and safer, not Berlin.
Sadly a lot of places feel more dangerous these days. I do hope I can visit Berlin one day. I've never been there.

Cities in China are repidly getting closer to becoming a utopia while many in the west are further away.
I was amazed how clean and modern the cities are in China. I totally agree. They seem to invest much more in their infrastructure and urban planning.
Really amazing photographing!Too bad it's getting even more difficult to live and travel in China for foreigners! This has to be changed!
There are some amazing places to take pictures in China. I feel like it will get easier to travel there soon. I was able to get a 10 year multiple entry visa. The process was a bit tough, but that's true for most visas.
@@AtHomeAnywhere China is far more behind other south eastern Asian countries for international travelers now. Hope this situation will be improved soon. Enjoy your stay in China！
i just came back from China, you can still use cash in China - no problem!
I agree that there is cash out there being used, but its rare.. Even the street vendors that I came across had papers with bar codes to scan and pay with the phone apps. They will accept your cash but most vendors will not have the money to make change. Paying with cash won't be a problem if you have the exact amount or you don't need your change. Alipay and WeChat are the preferred methods of payment for all vendors.

Welcome back to China! At Beijing, foreigners may have to speak a little bit in Chinese, and in Shanghai, so many Chinese can speak in English, even beggers...
It is great to be back, even if I’m just a tourist this time. I will definitely need to practice my Chinese speaking more before the next trip. I found that my only interactions speaking in English were with a member of the hotel staff. People were very friendly and some tried to talk to me but I was only able to let them know that I didn’t understand. I think it’s a useful phrase to know how to say when visiting any place. I could always use a translation app on my phone as well.
"Ni Hao, Xie Xie, Hao De, ..." maybe five words a day and you will be easy in weeks...cheers and welcome back!

Only your ignorance is preventing you from getting a ticket . it literally takes 1 minute , ya hotel staff do it for you too.
Could be 😅 I guess I’m just not used to asking someone else to help me get a ticket. I’m going to sound old here, but last time I visited the Forbidden City, there was no need to make a reservation 😅 Easy and Difficult are always relative.
