Skywalker Ranch was amazing. I went there for a scoring session back in 2008. There’s a little restaurant between George’s house and Skywalker Sound. They prepare food for the staff and for George. That day I ate there I went up to pay and the cashier said, “No payment necessary, George has you covered today.” Everyone in the group was covered. I then had the pleasure of sitting with Leslie Anne Jones. She was mixing the sessions that day. She mixed Empire Strikes Back. She was super cool. George has these rooms that people could stay in at Skywalker sound in case there was a multi day mixing session that were themed. He’s truly a great man and thinks about his employees and workers like family. Not enough can be said about George Lucas’ character.

It's something to see George admitting that his more perfected visions on screen may not really be the best outcomes. His creative frustrations with the state of the original SW film at its "escape" has unfortunately led to him throwing that version into the trash so that future generations can't experience it.

Man you can really feel the passion that George had for the film and the series as a whole! Love being able to hear his viewpoint of the process that went into writing and making the film. Sure the film was silly at parts but it was his vision and I respect him a lot for sticking with his vision. Passion and vision is what was missing in the sequel trilogy, and I miss seeing that in films.

“Whatever you do some people are gonna hate it and some are gonna love it” see this is a great mindset I didn’t know he ever had. So why did he abandon it after the prequels and sell out?

    • @Yoda-93
      @Yoda-93 4 роки тому +6

Some say that we was going to officially retire and that he wanted someone to take over his legacy. He however did have a baby from a surrogate mother and that he was going to spend more time as a father and have less involvement of being a writer/Director. Steven Spielberg recommended Kathleen Kennedy to George of having her in control of Lucasfilm cause of her experience with Jurassic park, ET, Indiana Jones, etc.
But? others believe that he would of did the sequels cause he did ask mark and Carrie back in 2011 of potentially making another star wars trilogy and yet both of em agree to do it.
But he also had a different mindset because of how much criticism was towards the prequels that he couldn't bear having to deal with death threats and more of the "Fan" Backlash that he just lost the will of making that decision.
In conclusion he decided that even though he never wanted to make deal with a corporate overlord as he explained many years ago he may believe disney would be top candidate since they make great movies when it comes to children and that was star wars was too for every generation. Skip ahead and after Lucas sold star wars disney turned on him by making there own star wars and throwing away his story treatments going into a different direction thus getting ready to pump out which would be the start of making The Force Awakens.
Please note that I may have skipped quite a bit in order to not make this comment longer as it should be but you can find out more by looking at more UA-cam videos regarding the transition. Hope this helps.

Thanks for sharing this! I didn’t know about this interview until after watching the video! I’m gonna try to implement his style of writing to my own; I have an idea for a SWTOR fanfic that’s been floating in my head for several years now and I _have_ to put it down on paper (or computer) at some point! I just haven’t really found a way to translate my ideas to words. I can _see_ those scenes crystal clear! It’s putting them to words I struggle with, so I hope that just by doing outlines, I can kinda fill in the gaps. Hopefully I can get it written so that you can read it one day yourself. Thanks for the content that you provide us SW fans with, Mr. Theory.

Right here is why disney failed at star wars. George Lucas doesnt make the films for the money, hes only interested in telling the story he wants to tell. Money for him is just the tool he needs to give him the independence to tell his story through film.
The information he gives here is pure gold and useful for anyone who wants to succeed in making a living from their passion. Like Starwars Theory has also done.

I have a theory. George Lucas came up with the father twist in mid-1975. Prior to that in the previous two drafts there was a different Sith Lord named Prince Valorum who was supposed to switch from the Empire to helping Annikin and Leia escape. In February of 1975 McQuarrie designed the Vader mask because he needed to be able to breathe out in space. Lucas decided to keep Vader’s face hidden. What that meant was that inevitably there would have to be an unmasking scene and if so he would have to come up with an idea of whose face it would be.
In the draft after this development Valorum disappears and Vader becomes a good guy who went bad, setting up his eventual redemption arc which was transferred onto him from Valorum. At the end of that draft, Vader tells Luke, "I have this feeling I know you." Luke knew his father before he was killed in the same battle where Vader became a Sith. Vader isn't said to have killed Annikin. In a December 1975 conversation Lucas told Foster that in the second film we would "learn who Darth Vader is."
After Star Wars came out and became a big hit, he got cold feet on doing the father twist which is why Luke’s dad became a ghost. But this meant he now wouldn't be able to do his father-son-redemption story in the third film. So in that first draft he had to invent a new character named Ovan Marekal who is Han Solo's step-father.
He is the third most powerful man in the galaxy and Leia believes that Han can convince him to put his support behind the Rebellion. There's a couple of problems: he sides with the Empire and Han isn't on good terms with him.
In the end Han changes his mind and Luke and Leia watch as he sets off to go find him. What that’s setting up for part 3 is a story where a hero has to resolve his differences with his father in order to get his dad to switch sides from the Empire to the Rebellion. Basically what happens in actual Return of the Jedi. Except Han and his relationship to his father wasn't established in the first film. Luke and his relationship to his father and his father's relationship to Vader was.

Sometimes I wonder what it would be if George Lucas made a film now. Would he go the LCD route? On one hand George Lucas was very much the type of guy who wanted as much freedom after the fact to create his vision, on the other hand it really could have taken him back to his roots of incamera effects. So I don’t know, but it’s something I wish I could see

1:35 Poor guy. It's really sad that he got completely trashed, forcing himself to sell Lucasfilm because of the amount of hate decades after this interview. I find the prequel critics to be rather unfair. Most who trashed The Phantom Menace came from the original generation that saw Star Wars and wanted to see the film through their 7-year old eyes again. It's not fair to the movie and it's not fair to George, who created the movie for a new, much younger generation. I was lucky to have seen it as a young boy right after I saw the Star Wars trilogy Special Editions. I enjoyed the film, all of it, including it's clunky dialogue, which is nothing new to Star Wars. Let's not forget that the first Star Wars wasn't a masterpiece of dialogue writing, but many from the older generations set that issue aside because they saw the movie when they were a kid and can't force themselves to hate it as much as they hate The Phantom Menace, or any other prequel they ridiculously shit on.

Why is it when a video is recommended to me it’s already 3 minutes pass the original upload and already has 37 comments? Btw hello there friends!

Yeah, it's like poetry, so that they rhyme. Every stanza kinda rhymes with the last one. Hopefully it'll work.

I've seen these before. But it's been awhile. Same parts are on the DVD Blu-ray. We're did you find the whole interview? Lucas is the man.

One question I always wondered about Lucas was that how in the hell do you wear a flannel shirt out in the hot desert ?

Yeah the lightsaber dual scenes would have been a lot more intense and fast paste like the prequels if George had the technology back then. How he always imagined it to be. That’s why scene 38 reimagined is canon to me lol.
