Fantastic list. I just picked up HERO recently. I wonder if anyone ever did a hack on river raid that would allow powerups like 1942? That would be cool.
Some of my favorites, in no particular order, would have to be Kaboom, Adventure, Dragster, Asteroids, Enduro, Pitfall, Fantastic Voyage, Barnstorming, and Circus
You had a few surprising games in your Top 10 there for sure. Wasn't a fan of E.T, Warlords, or Raiders of the Lost Ark. Also interesting you rated Pitfall higher than Pitfall II. My Top 10 would be #1 Maze Craze (played this with any friend I could persuade to play it with me), H.E.R.O., Pitfall II, Berzerk, River Raid, Indy 500, Demon Attack, Outlaw, Empire Strikes Back and Space Invaders at #10. Now I'm older Adventure is right up there in my favourites, but as a kid I knew no one with it and didn't discover the game (or Dark Chambers) until my late 20s when I became a casual collector. Great video, thank you for sharing.
Thanks! And thanks for commenting. I love to hear peoples top 10 and how it varies so much person to person. Yeah, I absolutely loved Raiders, but thankfully I had a team of friends with it to and we worked together to figure the dang game out. Without any outside help, I thinkin it would be like "what in the hell am I supposed to do?" also a lot of people didnt realize you had to use TWO controllers.
@@HippoBytes Most people I knew with the Atari had Combat as it came with the console (here in Australia at least) and some combination of Asteroids, Missile Command, Pac-Man, Space Invaders, Outlaw and River Raid (not sure how many times I have played that game!). My brother and I are both in the 'what do you mean you use two controllers' category for Raiders! Only knew one guy with it and he had it as a loose cartridge with no box or instructions. Same with Swordquest: Earthworld and Riddle of the Sphinx. We had no idea what we were doing so those games got put away very quickly!
Great video, and great list! E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial was a bit surprising at number ten though I don't disagree. Adventure is also my favorite Atari VCS/2600 original library game.
I loved ET as a kid too. I got it on my 11th birthday. That was near the beginning of 1983. I even had an ET birthday cake. I thought the game was great, and I played it til I beat it, without using the easy mode, just turning it on and paying. It's actually one of my favorites.
I actually don't know how it became known as that since its actually pretty good (with some issues extra time could have fixed). So many folks I know actually DID like the game.
@@HippoBytes as far as the 'dropping continuously back in the pit when trying to get out of it' problem, I never saw it as a problem because I figured it out. Ya just have to play it long enough to feel out how the game works. Just like every other game out there.
Have you seen the Retron 77? It has a slot though doesn't work with all cartridges. You can also put ALL atari 2600 games on there plus new homebrews via an SD card. ua-cam.com/play/PLB-PtUFYV-Uyvsje5BDimI13WVGtTX7Nn.html
Agreed, newbies think it was soooo hard..flip the switches to get Reid of the Fed and scientist, the ship won't come when there is anyone in the forest, and the phone pieces make ET
ET, SPIDERMAN,MATH GRAND PRIX,empire strikes back, Adventures of Tron,Xonox Chuck Norris and Ghost Manor,Turmoil,Demons to diamonds,Raiders of the Lost Ark of which I have a graphic tattoo of Indy on the pedestal, Towering Inferno,Stampede, I have Toys R Us memories of picking up the slip of paper to the game desk, there was one I found in the gound that was just w worm or snake picking up prizes, cocoanuts..it was the 77 model that my father bought,a floor model for demonstration bc the Vader front version was coming out,and it was cheaper.inwas told that the late 80s version was junk.the under 50 bucks model
I don't care what the people say about E.T, it's a damn fine game and even without the instruction manual I was able to beat the game. I was in kindergarten at the time and couldn't read anyway.
Space Invaders, Asteroids, Missile Command, Berzerk, Joust, Phoenix, Enduro, Hero, River Raid and Popeye.
Fantastic list. I just picked up HERO recently. I wonder if anyone ever did a hack on river raid that would allow powerups like 1942? That would be cool.
Space Jockey,Sneek and Peek, Commando Raid,Krull
Sneek and Peek!
Some of my favorites, in no particular order, would have to be Kaboom, Adventure, Dragster, Asteroids, Enduro, Pitfall, Fantastic Voyage, Barnstorming, and Circus
Solid list! ..I haven't played Fantastic Voyage yet - I'll check it out. Circus Atari was awesome but its making it in my 11-20 list.
Pitfall 2, Frostbite, Frogger, Popeye, Missile Command, Qbert, HERO, Tutankhamen, Ms. Pacman, Keystone Kapers
Solid line up! Holy smokes I haven't thought of Tutankhamen in a while - I need to go remind myself of that game since its been a minute.

Fast Eddie, Taz, Radar Lock, Solaris, Demon Attack, Assault, Tennis, Polo, Gauntlet, Tank Plane Fight 1977
Missile Control
Good list - I need to find some of these.

Thanks! I love the validation. Have you tried the homebrew adventure spin-offs? So good.
@@HippoBytes I haven't gotten around to them just yet. Only started homebrew collecting fairly recently.

ET - Nicely difficult to play.
Thanks! Soooo 👍👎?
@@HippoBytes Definitely up.
I had the joystick with the built in games, and the mini console, but it needs a cartridge port like the Sega mini

So I take it you liked it too? See - we have to reverse the stigma this game has.
Also had a good laugh with Spiderman falling down the building ... Ok, Number 7, Ms Pac-Man! ;)
😅😅😅
There was a Pac man clone called Shark Shark,a diver picking up diamonds in a seaweed maze whilst a randomly appearing shark would come AROUND
Oh I think I played that one -

Warlords I had too
@@treyjohnson82 That certainly made it in my top since its such a great multi-player game

Always a fan of Super Breakout and Haunted House.
Solid games. Haunted house will probably be in my 11-20. But man, that game taught me what anxiety is.

😅 yeah we all understood it back then
