Cleaning that rear glass reminded me of working as a 'service station' in my youth. Cleaned all windows using that method, yes same method the crews do on the sky scrapers too!

Thank you Phil !!! I hate windows and as a detailer it can become very frustrating to say the least. I can paint correct the paint to perfection but can't seem to get clean glass..lol GREAT video and I will apply these methods on my next detail. THANK YOU !!!!

Tom try these tips it will be a life saver for you especially when you get residue on windows from paint correction and when doing interiors especially those front and back windows that never seem to come clean from the film with towels and all the spray cleaners everyone uses. the true test of perfection is in the sun where you can see your work perfectly in a shaded area or garage a towel will look like the perfect choice up until you roll the car outside youll curse in frustration to see how bad the towel actually did. Ive been diluting glass cleaner since the early 90s detailing cars and learned this method from a professional glass cleaner in NYC who does huge skyscrapers. .

This was helpful! It’s been frustrating using Stoner and glass specific micro fiber towels. Every negative point your mention is what I have been trying to figure out for years (streaks, smudges, moving grease/film around, lint, etc)! It’s been frustrating. The glass may look clean, but when the light catches at the right angle.. you see all the imperfections…it makes me cringe every time. That said, I’m going to give your method a try.

    My equipment is
Turtle wax scratch remover - removes scratches in conjunction with polishing pad, but I don't have one since I'm not that pro.
Chux super wipe towel - for the turtle wax to apply
Clean or even slightly dirty rag
    A Clean microfiber towel.
Technique - apply some wax to the chux, your glass doesn't need pre cleaning. Clean the glass, ensure to wipe away those bug guts etc. Clean until no haze remains.
Wipe over with your rag as good as you can.
Buff over with the microfiber towel for some crystal clean glass. The front inside does not get hazy due to the wax in the compound liquid. Your glass when it rains is so good to watch it bead off.
All this and no water spilling down inside my doors where it can get trapped.

i like rinseless agents for glass cleaning (1:256 dilution), spray liberally across glass, use a microfiber towel to wipe and it’s also a nice streak free experience . added benefit is that i don’t mind the overspray on the inside of the car as i use the same formulation to wipe down the interior anyway

So I want to share my experience with this so far after using your methods. I completely agree that we should take cues from how pros clean glass.
I got good results using a similar solution on the exterior of car windows in my garage. However if you're in the sun, the solution will dry way too fast for you to squeegee it off. I had to use...yes...glass cleaner and a towel in small areas to remove it. Embarrassing.
The other issue I had was on the inside of the car. I kept getting streaks that I had to touch up, again, with glass cleaner and a towel, which is fraught with its own streaking issues if you aren't very diligent. I couldn't figure out why but maybe I wasn't able to keep the squeegee at the best angle. I don't know. I have a popular rinseless wash on the way and I am hoping that reformulating my solution to be naturally lower in residue and slower drying will go a long way towards resolving this.
Also...I bet if you look closely around the edges of Auto Fanatic's glass, you will see smudged up dried soap. I know because that's what I found on my car after doing this and looking from the outside at where my windshield meets the dashboard. It's impossible to get the squeegee into the edges so you'll find yourself putting some glass cleaner into a towel and shoving it in there. But be careful or you'll bump your knuckles on the window, creating more smudges. Wash and dry your hands thoroughly first because that's one of the sources of your problems.

  • @Reaper-Jim
    @Reaper-Jim 2 роки тому +5

These are MY opinions, based on MY experiences.
    A few things …
#1. Gas station attendants are NOT detailers. Using those gross scrubber squeegees is not optimal.
#2. House windows are NOT the same as vehicle glass. They require a different process.
#3. Soap of any kind leaves residue behind. The dryer (alcohol based) the cleaner, the better.
#4. Squeegees, in general, are fine but meh for auto detailing. There’s a reason pro’s don’t commonly use them.
Automotive glass cleaning is one of the easiest things to do, but a lot of people overcomplicate it by getting all fancy. You do NOT want or need lubrication. You do NOT want or need longer working times, defeats the purpose of getting streak free glass. Professional window cleaners are cleaning flat panels and never lift off their squeegees, the soaps they use are for “gliding” lubrication, not cleaning.
I have been using the 70/30 water/isopropyl mix for nearly 30 years and it’s all I’ve needed unless I was claying or polishing automotive glass. It’s quick, cheap and effective. I have not found it’s equal in ANY automotive or household glass cleaner. Does it work on regular (non-automotive) glass? Sure, but it’s not optimal … right tool for the job and stuffs. Adding unnecessary steps to automotive glass cleaning is adding time and losing money.
Get a waffle weave towel and use an isopropyl mix and you’ll be aces. I promise you.
    😊😊😊

Jim thats the issue the Adams soap surfactant is sticky, try a soap with a wash and wax or try our 007 Snow Storm the soaps are all different in chemistry and most do not play well with the windex

Interior aftermarket tint owners should test first, just to be safe. 👍🏻

Good tips but if you have window tint I would not use the scuff pads or windex on the tint

    • @autofanaticcars
      @autofanaticcars  2 роки тому +1

legally your not supposed to tint the front windshields in most states but of course on side glass with tints never used a scuff pad and always use ammonia free glass cleaner as i mentioned in the video. you can still use these techniques on tint and use a soft sponge to agitate instead of the scuff pad. None of our cars have tint so I did not focus much on that particular subject but that might be a future video with a customers car.

I wish you'd have given the name of a soap product and link to it rather than describe its characteristics. All those squegees you got links to but nothing to the soap. So how does ab man know which soap to buy?

ONR diluted. I use 5ml in 16oz of water. Try it, you’ll never use window cleaner again. Also seems to lessen/delay the haze buildup on the inside of the windshield.
    In advance, you’re welcome! 😂😂

I really wanted this to work. I tried a couple of different mixtures and a few different techniques but it still streaks. Pan has a similar vid with a different mixture, but it too still streaked. Maybe it’s operator error. LOL

I used a couple of different mixtures. I used yours with a car shampoo, and I used another one with dawn dishwash soap. The windows were cool and out of the sun. AND, tried different squeegee techniques.

and you used the original windex with ammonia as shown or another glass cleaner? did you scrub the glass first to remove film and any residue?
