Electric Prunes were a great Band of their time, got to meet Preston Ritter about 10 years ago through the Internet, He had contacted me, as I'm a singer in a Local Band here in Edmonton Alberta Canada called Flashback and he saw a video of my Band and he thought that my voice would be great for his band in LA & they needed a new lead Singer & he wanted me to come to LA and play in his Band, unfortunately I was not able to at that time, kind of wish I had as I knew his material as my Band at the time were playing "I Had To Much Too Dream last night". Would have been interesting. RIP Preston
By the way, I paid $400 for the original tape of this Mike Douglas appearance to be taken from their storage vault and transferred to VHS tape. Now it's all over the Internet (not my fault)! If I hadn't paid for it, it would still be hidden in their vault and seen by no one. Preston (Drummer - Electric Prunes)

We appeared on so many TV shows it's hard to remember them all. I have clips from Mike Douglas (the one here on UA-cam), Smothers Bros, two appearances on American Bandstand, and the Hy Litt show from Philadelpia. We also did about 4 of Dick Clark's "Where The Action Is" shows, Ed Sullivan (can't find a tape of that), Merv Griffin, and zillions of local teen shows across the nation. Preston
Probably the greatest psychedelic song of all time. Also, one of the first. I didn't hear the song until the late 70's as I was just a baby when it came out but my friends and I listened to it constantly in high school. It was such a different and original sound. And as much as I loved the first album, the 2nd one was even better. Two of the greatest psychedelic records of all time. Also, I have to confess that I absolutely love the song "Onie" which many fans disparage.
This song rocks. You have great memories. I was a year old when this song was first released, but growing up, I learned this song. Incredible song. Thanks for this.
Brings back great memories. The strange guitar sound is a pedal that distorts the sound of the guitar. The used distortion a lot then it was more of a fuzzy sound. This record had an almost laser like tone which was unique. One of my favorites. I was in high school then . Thanks for sharing.
I could hear a little Hendrix in that awesome sound! Thank you for the info on the fuzz-like distortion on the guitar. Very well played and an excellent edgy group.
You don't have to be high to enjoy and appreciate this music. I've never taken drugs, and I love psychodelic music: Electric Prunes, Jefferson Airplane, some Tommy James'.. etc.¡
I first heard I Had Too Much To Dream (Last Night) when it had been just released in UK the on a little portable radio with a single earphone late at night on Radio Luxemburg with the static swooshing in and out. I guess I was about 13. The echo on the vocals and the fuzz guitar sounded fabulous and exotic. I remember thinking "Wow!"

I've listened to this song a 1000 times since I first discovered it round 1980 (I've heard lots of other stuff too). The more I listen to it the more I think it's one of the best Rock songs ever. It's true that The Prunes didn't write it, it was written for them by professional songwriters, hit-makers, but the sound, the feel, the arrangement, the performance are theirs. This is the best video clip of it, thank you so much for posting this. I heard that bassist Mark Tulin died recently, rip
Who is normal here? The Prunes or the suits? Really wish that I were alive for the 60's. The only difference is that, now, war is privatized . Seriously though, super rad band and I'm glad I found them here. Thanks TablesTurned!
Lots of bands appeared on The Mike Douglas show, including The Hollies, who performed "On A Carousel", "Butterfly", and "Dear Eloise". The band was also presented with some gold records for "Bus Stop", "Stop! Stop! Stop!", "On A Carousel", "Carrie-Anne", and the LP "The Hollies' Greatest Hits".

this was a monster hit, and most TV shows then, were great.
I would come homefrom school and this show would be on the T.V. Every day new & fresh. Ass kicking.
The very first psychedelic song and band .they started it all back in 1966.
Apparently so….amazing

I knew Mark Kincaid and Ron Morgan (1400 Wabash, Aurora, CO-1976) who were with the Prunes for a while. Both were excellent guitarists
