Thanks for listening!! Lack of Comprehension was on the album Human which was released in 1991. "1,000 Eyes" from Symbolic released in 1995 next. 😁Sick riffs, sick transitions, sick drums by Gene Hoglan, and prophetic lyrics.
@@thmp3r Gene Hoglan didn't play on Human, where Lack Of Comprehension is from, Sean Reinert did. The next album Individual Thought Patterns is where Gene made his debut with Death. I was hoping they react to 1,000 Eyes next from Symbolic which is why I mention Gene in the OP. But yes, he is solid. Nicknamed The Atomic Clock because he never misses a beat. He makes it look so effortless that he looks bored. lol
As always Great reaction guys, if you can react to Overactive Imagination by Death is a great combination between death and progressive metal and know for sure you will going to like it
And most don't know this, there was a punk band named death also that was around before Chuck came around. It's good old school raw punk. I love their first album.
To answer your question, they didn't name themselves after death metal, death metal is named after them. Them and the song "Death Metal" by Possessed (1985).
Hey guys. I've been a subscriber for years. It's so hard to believe that you are just discovering one of the most influential bands in metal. They have no bad songs. I hope you enjoy your journey through Death.
One of the most underrated hard-core bands of the time. Chuck was an amazing, amazing guitar player, singer, and songwriter. Death never gets enough love in the reaction world. Glad to see you covering them. Hopefully you do more. RIP, Chuck.
Found this band on late night MTV, way back when. Took me almost 20 years to "discover" them again...think middle of America in the middle of nowhere, no internet, went to work right out of high school, etc. Not enough space in these comments to leave other suggestions for this band...At the very least, take the time to check out this album "Human" on your own... Thanks for the reaction...enjoy your New Year....
Finally! Long overdue that you react to Death. They (and Bolt Thrower, you might want to listen to "for victory", "silent demise" or "world eater" sometime ...) were who got me into Death Metal. And they are still in my top 3 bands (not metal but music in general) of all time. Great choice for a first song, too. try "suicide machine" - quite a heavy topic but both a fantastic song and great lyrics.
I really do wish that there were music videos from deaths earlier albums. I would absolutely love to see a video for "Leprosy", or "Spiritual Healing". Rest in peace Chuck Schuilder
The pioneers of Death Metal when at the time it was considered underground metal. Bands like Venom, Celtics Frost, Napalm Death etc etc etc were all considered underground until Death crawled out from it and made it a genre....... and here we are today with the most diverse of metal genres to make your head spin. Thrash was the production of punk and metal combined, everything else evolved from the mixing of this and that. Must do Death Symbolic 🤘😎🤘🇺🇸
Im so glad you guys are reacting to Death. I wish you guys would see they're live videos. The front man is a legend when it come to playing guitar and lead vocals at the same time. Anyways my favourite song and the one i always recomend to people is "Spirit crusher".
Wow, your first foray into Death. Amazing ✨️ 🎉 Their earliest stuff was pure thrash/death metal, and they became increasingly more technical with albums like Symbolic (excellent title track) and 1998's the Sound of Preserverance. The opener on that album, "Scavenger of Human Sorrow," will cook your noodles.
This band is fantastic and deserves attention for their incredible lyrics. The band's name came before the creation of the music genre, and many claim that the band "Death" actually created the genre.
You gotta react to more death, many say that they were the first (or at the very least one of the first) death metal bands and they still managed to evolve through their discography so much they they basically created/influenced every major death metal sub genre.
Chuck Schuldiner (vocals/ guitar) was an erratic genius who single-handedly jumpstarted the death metal genre... Death (the band) was his musical vision from the 80's until 1998... Back in 1985, there was just thrash metal and Chuck wanted to be a part of that genre - his band was renamed Death (originally called Mantas) because they were fans of Venom (the band) that coined the term 'black metal'... Granted, there were similar band like Morbid Angel... Deicide ... Obituary ... Sepultura... Possessed... in the 80's, Death stood out and their debut album 'Scream bloody gore' in 1987 was entirely Chuck Schuldiner on vocals/ guitar and bass... and that record set off a chain reaction all across America and Europe in the underground metal scene. By 1990, the record labels had signed death metal bands like - Deicide, Morbid Angel, Sepultura, Napalm Death, Carcass, Bolt Thrower, Cannibal Corpse... and more bands would follow - Entombed, Dismember, Immolation, Suffocation, Incantation, Autopsy, Cancer, Vader, Immolation, Monstrosity, Internal Bleeding, Malevolent Creation... The scene became overcrowded by the early 90's. Chuck Schuldiner was not comfortable w/ being called the 'Godfather of death metal'...He consciously pushed Death towards more complex and technical music w/ the albums 'Individual thought patterns' (1993) and 'Symbolic' (1995)... but his unpredictable nature made it impossible for Death to break commercially; he would cancel tours and often not honor shows that were booked... He was erratic w/ record labels... etc. In 1998, he released the last Death album 'The sound of perseverance' and did a full tour... It would be his last. Since 1996, Chuck had been writing songs for a new metal project Control Denied w/ a classic metal-style singer... He finally finished and released a full Control Denied album 'The fragile art of existence'... in 1999... Sadly, he was diagnosed w/ brain cancer. He underwent treatment and surgery while working on a 2nd Control Denied album that would never be finished. Chuck Schuldiner passed away in 2001 at age 34. Thankfully, the brilliance of Chuck Schuldiner's work was never in doubt... The rights to all the Death albums (7 studio, 4 live records) were bought by indie label Relapse Records and were remastered and re-released w/ bonus tracks... Even his demos w/ Mantas were released. Death albums sold in significant numbers long after he had passed away... Former members of Death even formed a tribute band Death to all (D.T.A.) and headlined tours... Other bands like Left to Die includes former Death members and play Death songs live. Also, R.I.P. Sean Reinert (drums) who played on 'Lack of comprehension' and the Death album 'Human'... Reinert was also the drummer of the prog band Cynic.
The song that got me into extreme vocals along with ghost of perdition by Opeth. I remember seeing the video and was blown away by the structure and musicianship, the vocals through me off but I’ve grown to like it since then. Since then I’ve bought a few of Death’s albums and they’ve been all winners. Chuck is a genius. You need to check out a few other songs from them especially their last 4 albums. Subscribed because I’ve been watching y’all for a while now and also anticipate more Death songs 😂
And before there was this Death, there were the Hackney brothers from Detroit that formed a Proto Punk band in 1971 called Death. One of the few black rock bands at the time.
I recently discovered your channel (old sepultura and slaayer videos) aand just asked myself "did they already tried death?" its gonna be quite a journey
Been a fan of Death since the 1st album, only say that because when this album came out, (1990) absolute gamechanger, even if it took some time to really sink in, f'kn brilliant! Was in a thrash band and this made us all evaluate the music we were creating, did we actually belong to musicianship or was it just a fad?! Made metal musicians step-up their game, it was so progressive for heavy metal, this is in the top 100 most important metal albums of all time imo.
Death along with Possesed were early extreme thrash bands that paved the way for death metal as a genre. Both bands were heavily influenced by Venom and Merciful Fate. Some would say Venom are the one's that started extreme thrash. Also Mayhem (also influenced by Venom) was another band that paved the way for extrem thrash and black metal. Its all mixed influences that paved the way for death metal as we know it today.
There have been multiple comments explaining the name of the band, but I couldn't find one explaining the lyrics, or put them into perspective, so I'll try to give you the gist of it: From the mid to late 80s there were a number of metal bands (mostly heavy metal) that which got sued by parents of kids who had committed suicide; most notably Ozzy Osbourne (for Suicide Solution) and Judas Priest (Better by You, Better Than Me, which ironically isn't even their own song, it's a cover of a sing made originally by Spooky Tooth). I think Chuck was especially inspired by Judas Priest's case, and this song was his response. He's addressing the parents of the kids who are trying to put the blame the bands, instead of fessing up to their own mistakes, which was the inability to see when their own kids' lives were so far gone that the only way they saw out of it was to take their own lives. 'A condemning fear strikes down Things they cannot understand An excuse to cover up weaknesses that lie within Lies Laying your guilt and pain On people that had no part in the molding of a life That creates its destruction' The parents should have been the ones to be there for their kids, but they weren't. They couldn't understand their own kid. A total (say it with me) lack of comprehension. So instead of looking inward, they choose to put the blame on people who had absolutely nothing to do with it. 'Right before your very eyes A reflection of the mistakes To the end you will deny Your part in the demise of a life Lack of comprehension Thriving on your cliché Compelled by self-resentment' I hope I put the lyrics somewhat into perspective. They hit very hard, and I recommend reading along while listening to the song. And maybe read it from someone who can explain it better than I can. Also, on the subject of names... don't forget Kool G Rap!
Crazy that our boys from Georgia are reacting to Death as the rest of the world is reacting to the death of our Georgian Jimmy Carter, rest in peace🕊🌟✨
Great to see y’all getting into death metal. My top 5 & they’re songs to check out: 1. Morbid Angel “Chapel of Ghouls”, “God of Emptiness” & “invocation of the Continual One” 2. Cannibal Corpse “Evisceration Plague”, “Gallery of Suicide”, “Sentenced to Burn” 3. Obituary “The End Complete”, “Chopped in Half”, “Kllling Time” 4. Lead guitarists and drummer are from a progressive death metal band called Cynic. Cynic is like the opposite of Death with harmonic clean vocals as the lead vocal tone.

Bros this guys invented death metal. Their album entitled "symbolic" is still considered as possibly the best death metal album ever. Chuck Schuldiner was a genius . He died at the age of 34 from cancer. He was a composer, guitarist and singer. His compositions were complex and sophisticated. He loved Jazz and classical music. Speaking about naming the band after the music style reminds me of the Finnish band Heavy Metal Perse. Guess which style they play? Absolutely excellent band, you should check them out. I'd recommend "Vainolaista Vastaan" or "Velhojen Vesuri".
Random Death trivia? Judas Priest was sued for the deaths of 2 "overzealous" fans, using the lyrics of one of their songs as proof. This song was supposedly an open letter to the parents and prosecutors, chastising them for blaming the band. For what it is worth, I have never seen it debunked, but the sources I found are fairly vague and scarce...
Another new subscriber. 🤪 Guys, so weird to see you listen to this because I bought "Human" when the record came out in 1991. Such a long time! Have you ever heard the song "Up the middle" by Buck 65 which contains samples of "Battery" by Metallica? This is dope! 😎
Oh hell yeah! Death is definitely a band that stands out from the crowd. Every album was different, every album was good. Everyone has their favorites, but mine are the album this track came from "Human" and the next one "Individual Thought Patterns." The comments are going to push you heavily towards "Symbolic," though. Seems to be the overall favorite, but it never clicked for me. You should, however, listen to the entire "Human" album regardless, even if it's not for reactions. It absolutely kills all the way through and every single band member shines. The good thing about a lot of older, thrash inspired death metal is that the albums tend to be short. This one is probably 45 minutes max, so it's like listening to one Tool song, but you get a whole record 😆
R.I.P. Chuck Shuldiner 1967-2001 Fuck Cancer.. You should check out the first album Scream Bloody Gore. Way different, more straightforward and thrashy
Possessed invented death metal but Death perfected it. Chuck Schuldiner often cited Possessed as inspiration for his own pioneering musical efforts with Death, and while other bands had a similar impact on the genre’s later evolution, death metal’s entire vocabulary can ultimately be traced back to a bunch of songs written by these San Francisco teens in the early 80s. Seven Churches is where death metal began.

'A condemning fear strikes down
Things they cannot understand
An excuse to cover up weaknesses that lie within
Lies
Laying your guilt and pain
On people that had no part in the molding of a life
That creates its destruction'
The parents should have been the ones to be there for their kids, but they weren't. They couldn't understand their own kid. A total (say it with me) lack of comprehension. So instead of looking inward, they choose to put the blame on people who had absolutely nothing to do with it.
'Right before your very eyes
A reflection of the mistakes
To the end you will deny
Your part in the demise of a life
Lack of comprehension
Thriving on your cliché
Compelled by self-resentment'
I hope I put the lyrics somewhat into perspective. They hit very hard, and I recommend reading along while listening to the song. And maybe read it from someone who can explain it better than I can.
