Upgrading Downtown With MANHATTANIZATION in Cities Skylines!

- In this episode, I am bringing some of the inspiration I got from a recent trip to Manhattan into Coniferia by slowly but surely "Manhattanizing" the downtown of Port Douglas. Taller, denser, prettier, woo! We accomplish this in a 3 step approach:
1. Identifying and removing those buildings from the existing cityscape that feels a bit too low in height or just out of place.
2. Identifying and placing replacement buildings that help establish an overall denser and taller look.
3. Adding details where necessary to overall just improve the core of downtown Port Douglas.

- What's the rationale behind this project:
What happens if a washed-up-used-to-be-UA-camr gathers a bunch of "generic" looking assets (though mostly inspired by Australian / Canadian cityscapes) with the hopes of creating a Cities: Skylines region full of towns and cities that both look realistic and are inspired by Australia, New Zealand, Canada and the USA, while at the same time don't really replicate any one particular style? No idea, let's find out.
Join me in this Cities: Skylines modded gameplay / let's play / timelapse series as we expand the region, and build new infrastructure, highways, public transit, industrial pockets, NIMBY-neighbourhoods, sprawling suburbs and bustling downtowns. And of course, use tress excessively to cover up any imperfections!

Honestly I always felt like PD deserved higher buildings, so this is great
Thanks a lot! :-D
Taller, denser, THICCER This episode turned out different than I had planned for, with much more "live-play" - so if listening to my sometimes incomprehensible thought process on why I chose which building and where to place it - it might not be your cup of tea hahahah :-D

Much Love,
Infra
After new DLCs we will need a space for a shopping center. Would love to see new ferries between Douglas and Pine Harbor. Love your city
Yesss ferries are needed
I never even thought of that lol
Ah yes - ferries have been mentioned several times - it's on the to-do list for sure!
And thank you!
First of its a nice downtown u created. I would just have some imputs: first of the major focus point of ur downtown layout is ur Capitol building. Ur Park is opening up the blocks to it and the major streets directs in that orientation. If u plan High rises then u avoid shadowing the capitol, specially if its a smaller on like urs. the greenroofed high rise, that is pretty nice but does that already. and the second imput is u may need to spread out more in the region, cuz the contiuous revamps of the downtown with higher and higher buildings may get less and less aestatic support if there arent enough "city" to support it. So the natural Spread into the hills and the cost line into the North (I think) helps to let ur downtown shine even more.
Yes completely agree on this one. You should really spread into the hills and north cost line.
This is the most beautiful build I've ever sat and watched someone create and do.
This is why we were all waiting for you to come back.
Memories like this.
I wish there was a mod that allowed you to keep your RCI settings and lighting after using PO to a building.
Thank you Dennel, very happy that you enjoyed it that much!
And I'll share that wish - it just doesn't feel as "real" adding these block services unfortunately.
This city is exponentially growing, it’s beautiful. Maybe it’s time to think about a local airport?
An airport is on the to-do - and will be my first time using the airports DLS, wohoo!
I'd love to see a football stadium in the dockyards of Port Douglas when the new DLC comes out - I think it can really help build the character of the city! For inspiration of the team's background, I'd suggest looking at teams like West Ham United, who were formed by the workmen of the Thames Ironworks and Shipbuilding Company. Great video like always!
Haven’t watched yet, but I feel like those buildings along Douglas Avenue would be historic. Perhaps you could make them taller but you would be required to keep the facades or something. 111 W 57th rising out out Steinway Hall is a good example. Maybe that’s what you’re going to do 😅 *back to video*
This is a very nice downtown build! The view from the water up Douglas Avenue should see the State House nicely framed. I think next you should extend Port Douglas either down Vermont Avenue, into the docklands near Outer Brickville, or (my favorite) up the hill like in San Francisco or Boston, using painted ladies and three-deckers for a nice 19th Century neighborhood of wood-framed houses, with corner stores and taverns of course.
Very nice! That art deco tower is so nice, the skyscraper pack is legit some of the best models ever made for this game.
Put a surface on top of that awkward wall on the first tower to give it a roof for my ocd tho.
I think you should build a hip trendy nightlife/arts area in Port Douglass
This area looks like Google maps in 3d, in a good way its so damm realistic I love it 😮❤
Will be excited for the next regional towns somewhere on the map.
I think an amusement park next to the beach will be great ! Amazing job infra ! ; )
I feel like you should add some low density residential across the bridges over the highway on the hill.
More like high density apartments.
Those hills are like 5min by foot/bike away from the city center and a major transport hub. Low density would be a complete waste of land.
As a new yorker.your visit has you seeing the capitol the way i see it lol.
31:29 dang what a freaking view 😍😍
Love the redoing of down town pd. You chose good places and the right assets to accent certain points and create a unique skyline. Just be aware of possible increasing traffic there, PD is technically still a dead end and next to parking the influx of cars could become a problem. (Speaking of: any new parking lots planned? PD might need it)
Glad you like it Duszh - and good points, this did increase traffic although it is being handled reasonably well since I "fixed" the broken tram network 😅
I think I'll be looking into doing some custom parking garages, both above and below street level
@@Infrastructurist this tram like, man 😂 let‘s hope it‘ll work for good this time! 😄
Like how the city is crowing and changing -respect for that.....
Oh yea that building you loved is very post-modern, which BOA Plaza definitely is along with One Atlantic Center, 191 Peachtree, etc.
Would be great to see a nighttime cinematic of the city and additionally put in some of the missing street lights
Every time I watch one of your videos I'm inspired to start a new city. Then I look at the big empty map and I'm like "eh fuck it".
Again... really good final result! Keep it up
Maybe port Douglas could extend up the mountain, and a new village town near to the mines
you wouldn't convince me 51:47 - 52:00 wasn't from google earth. Bravo dude!
Amazing build!
First of all, I would like to say that I like the build you have been doing, just been getting into it the last few episodes,
secondly, I would like to ask if you have thought about making a discord?
And thirdly, I would like to propose an idea, in the next episode, I think you should revert to the save that you loaded in on for this episode and instead of removing the buildings and placing larger ones in their place, I think it would have been more realistic for the buildings to have just been built on top and incorporated into the previous buildings that existed, the way that air rights worked and that you see a lot of in New York.
(Ps. Sorry for the paragraph lol)
maybe a little to dense on some blocks? service lane ways, alleys with dumpsters and pedestrian walkways go a long way toward reality.
I just popped on to your channel. I play CS too. I had an update, so most of my mods wont work. I could really use PO and move it. Love your project. I need to watch more of your work :) -Greetz from Norway.
I like that! Turns out really modern) Great work! Just want to raise a concern about Douglas avenue being too heavy car-centric for such a dense DT… Waiting for transit projects as always as I think now there is no doubt that those existing trams are not capable of the volume (particularly standing in the traffic in DT where there isn’t a dedicated lane)😅 Enjoyed so much!
I'm only at the start of the episode and beg you to get a new statue for the end of the avenue! haha :)
Any chance for a historical dockyard/museum?
Rip to that guy at 38:29 😓
Hahaha - good find baba!
i would love to see you play on a tropical map or build small cities in tropical forests wich are connected by train and streets! I really enjoy your videos.
omggggg its sooo beautiful
such a dope city
Looks good! can you add in some bike lanes 😄I feel that there should be some more ways to get around the city instead of walking, driving, or using the tram. Also with busses, and when the bus routes are gonna be created. Anyways I love how its coming along.😄
Imo, I feel like there should be a build up of height from the waterfront. I feel it would give the city more levels.
Your builds are so cool! However, sky scrapers really should not be wall-to-wall, that would essentially make all their windows on that side that's being walled, completely useless and it would also corrupt views, essentially you would force a bunch of windowless offices or residences... consider leaving some space between those towers if you're looking for a more authentic style :)
Haha. Supercheap auto is a auto store here in Australia. Port Douglas is also a city in Queensland.
Vermont avenue could become coniferia avenue as it has the state capitol and connects PD to the rest of the state (at least it was the main arterial before the highway came along)
Cafes on the mix used buildings ❤
Some windows look way oversized because of all the resizing
Nice, can you post list of assets please?
What mods do you use to make your game look that good?
So how does his apply to console..?
how 'bout you add a road with cherry blossoms!!!
I think buildings don't build so close to each other. window to window
To be fair it looks like that in places like New York and Tokyo
But I get your point Port Douglas is nowhere near the size of those cities
Why is the park named riverside gardens when it’s next to a ocean
Hey could we see the city at night some time
50/50⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Haven't watched the whole thing yet, but at 11:35 I feel like that building is too tall for being right next to water. I'd honestly buy smaller buildings there and get taller the further into downtown.
Where is all the traffic??? :D
Shouldn't 'Riverside Garden' be more like 'Bayside Garden'? :p
are you danish
Er det en dansk accent jeg spotter? 😅
Guilty as charged..

He deleted my favorite building :(
👌 ♥ 🏙
love this city a lot but i feel like its too dense, like the buildings should be a little away from each other, it would look more realistic than stacking all these building like that
It lost its soul kinda with all these new big buildings.. especially these two with pointy top, they are just not fitting aesthetics and looks city gives..
I thought the same, some of the new buildings look a bit grey and boring I think.
Tbh watching you PO-ing every single building is kinda boring. The episodes are getting longer, but there is less and less stuff in them. City looks great, but watching you building 4 towers in half an hour is just tiring.
