Either from orbit or if we get laser guided missiles just by flying at tree top height having them armed and homing in on the laser.

Hey, Phly… my dad (an F-16 vet) personally knows an F-15 pilot that put a GBU into an airborne Iraqi helicopter during Desert Storm. True story. It’s been done for reals. 😬 (apparently it totally vaporized the heli)

Thank you for your videos I just recently started playing War Thunder I think on either Monday or Tuesday of this week. And i'm having a really great time playing it and your videos just add to it. They make me laugh and entertain me and show me things that I didn't even think about or to try tanks I wouldn't even bother trying. DUn fact: You can use the AS30 laser guided nords as a BVR missile by locking the target pod on a plane. Since its laser guided, flares and chaff dont work and they dont get RWR warning.
Which is kinda weird since flares should kinda mess with the IR lock system what with all the radiation (in the form of light) that they emit
@@antonytheocharidis9576 nah. Laser guided munitions target specific frequencies of infrared light. If they didn’t, the sun would interfere. So the flares wouldn’t do much of anything.

@@andym.s.5231 no, im assuming that nothing the targeted aircraft could deploy as countermeasures would match the frequency that the missiles ar looking for as cleanly as the targeting laser. This is an extremely reasonable assumption.

Day 68: Phly, you should play the Hawk III Chinese fighter; 900lbs of bombs in a biplane at 1.0 that you can dogfight in after dropping. Totally balanced.
Despite being deleted, the comments on that laser-guided heli bomb kill are a gold mine.
Because it's actually happened in real life. An F-15E managed to turn an Iraqi Hind chopper into a debris cloud with a GBU-10- they dropped when it was on the ground, but it took off and they kept it painted until chopper met bomb and became fireworks. The F-15E in question was still flying as of 2018.
I was a 2w0 in the Air Force and watching you drop those GBU's made me happy in a special place. 😉

3:55 I believe bonking chopper with LGBs actually happened IRL, it was one of the Strike Eagle's air-to-air kill during first gulf war, A F-15E dropped LGB and guided the bomb onto a moving Mi-24.

Irl, no. Way to many variables to take into account. In wt, yes, we just saw Phly do it.
Yet another bonus for air in "ground" forces.
Pretty soon the only ground vehicles in "ground" forces will be "pilots" waiting for enough spawn points to get into a plane. Once they get in the air there will be nothing left on the ground to kill, so it'll be air vs air.
Then it'll be guaranteed just as boring and pointless as air battles are now.

It's videos like this that make me want to see a video on the World War 1/2 AC-130 "equivalent". Basically an aircraft where you have bigger rear guns, and instead of shooting aircraft chasing you, you're shooting tanks that you fly by 😂

FYI the bombing of an airborne helicopter has been done in real life by a F15E in desert storm, with a 2000-pound laser guided bomb hitting an Mi-24

I understand that only the last laser guided bomb or missile tracks to the target. Which is not historically accurate. Each bomb or missile has an independent seeker. Once locked on and released, one or 100, it shouldn't make a difference. Every bomb or missile regardless of it's source, will seek whatever target the laser 'paints'. There are even portable lasers that can be used on the ground to designate targets.

There are lots of modern vehicles that aren't that effective on their own, but would be very useful in squad gameplay if given laser designators that could work with teammates weapons. I'm thinking of certain lightly armed recon helicopters and planes, and lots of lighter transports and infantry fighting vehicles that don't really have decent AT weaponry, but do have laser designators. What if these vehicles were MUCH cheaper to spawn, but they were very lightly armed or not at all, except for the laser designator which requires teamwork. It sucks to play with a squad of friends and get killed like right off the bat and you just have to sit and watch them play for 20 minutes. What if you could spawn in a recon helo or like a Wiesel with a 20mm and a laser designator. You would be punished for dying in the sense that you can't afford to spawn anything to directly fight other tanks, but you could still play and still be useful to your team, possibly earning enough spawn points by being a team player to come back in a more lethal vehicle near the end of the match. A few years ago, the meta was a lot more about eliminating players and sending them back to hangar. Nowadays though people tend to stay in matches a lot longer. This sort of system could help tank battles feel more alive. The second half of most battles is just guys driving around in cheap SPAAs and like the 2 dudes on each team that still have tanks lol.

if you want a good laser guided bomb drop I'd say a minimum altitude of at least Angels 12 or 12000 feet at least that's how it is in DCS. at 12 feet you're still relatively close to the ground so higher up is recommended but not lower than that or else the bomb will not have time to track and lign up with the laser
